Oysterband

Oysterband

10 May 2025 - 24 May 2025

Oysterband, the 5-times BBC Radio 2 Folk Award-winning outfit that brought passion, power and not a little poetry to folk and roots music, enter their fifth decade as vital and creative as ever, with some of the finest songs in the modern folk canon to their name: Put Out The Lights; When I’m Up (I Can’t Get Down); Blood Wedding; Everywhere I Go; The Oxford Girl; Granite Years; Native Son; A River Runs… these and many others from their vast back catalogue will feature as they embark on another year of international touring and festivals. Theirs has been a unique and fiercely independent career. Oysterband still play with that spirit of the punk ceilidh band that roared through people’s lives all those years ago. But the growing depth and sensitivity of their songwriting, coupled with the strength of John Jones’ voice and their remarkable musicianship, have lifted their music into a richer, more acoustic era. Their occasional collaboration with folk diva June Tabor has produced two cult-classic award-winning albums, Freedom & Rain and Ragged Kingdom. The latter and their hugely influential album Holy Bandits were voted nos. 4 and 5 among the Ten Best Albums of the last 30 years by the public in a poll by fRoots Magazine in 2016. Oysterband are: John Jones - voice, melodeon Alan Prosser - guitars, voice Ian Telfer - violin, keyboard, voice Al Scott - bass, mandolin, voice Adrian Oxaal - cello, guitar, bouzouki, voice and the newest member, formerly of Bellowhead, Pete Flood - drums, percussion, voice
The Elvis Years

The Elvis Years

The Elvis Years is an outstanding musical production which brings to the stage the incredible and compelling story of the ‘king of rock and roll’. With a top line-up of actor-musicians, multiple costume changes and nostalgic film footage, this glittering two-hour production charts the musical and emotional highs and lows of Elvis’ amazing journey from poor truck-driving teenager from Tupelo, Mississippi through the army, Hollywood and finally the legendary Las Vegas concerts. This feelgood show will instantly transport you back to the golden years of rock’n’roll, as you witness Elvis audition for the very first time at Sun Studios, then become part of the TV audience for the '68 Comeback Special, and finally dance in the aisles at a Las Vegas concert as Mario recreates with incredible accuracy the charisma, stage presence and humour of the man himself - you may even get your hands on a scarf! Matt Price is known for having some of the most extraordinary and outrageous stories drawn from the wilder side of life. Matt’s charm and talent have made him a favourite on the UK and International circuit and whether he is comparing or performing a set, he has the expertise to win over even the toughest of audiences. Mike Gunn’s history is as interesting and entertaining as his comedy. A misspent youth and a series of grim jobs cultivated his cynical outlook on life and a perverse desire led him to the world of stand-up. A self-confessed pessimist, he describes himself as “not a natural choice for a career in laughter”. He has a rare ability to walk close to the line of what audiences find acceptable and yet still remain likeable and funny. His reputation for being a bit unfriendly, a touch dark and even morose is really not true. In real life, he’s loving, warm and philanthropic. Just a bit misunderstood. Man the Lifeboats

Man the Lifeboats

12 Sept 2025 - 12 Sept 2025

From full-throttle folk flings to darker ruminations, traditional instrumentals to tender ballads, and (of course) an obligatory ranting protest song or three, Man The Lifeboats got together in 2016 with a view to deliver a tonic for these troubled times. The sound blazes bright with its incendiary violins, glowing accordions and profound lyricism that will warm even the coldest of souls, managing to feel fun and modern, without losing sight of the more traditional aspects of the folk genre. Their music is evocative of the Pogues, the Levellers and Frank Turner, all self-professed influences, and even New Order, in that they can pair ennui-riddled politically-charged lyrics with tunes that demand to be danced to. They might not be able to write a happy ending to this wasted life as frontman Rich Quarterman sings, but they can write a relentless hook to go with a pint in the meantime. Man The Lifeboats really are one of the live sensations on the folk scene at the moment. Dont miss them!

Steve Knightley

Steve Knightley

5 Nov 2025 - 16 Nov 2025

As a long-serving troubadour of the folk and acoustic music scene, master songwriter and storyteller Steve Knightley has spent much of his life on the road, collecting songs, stories, anecdotes and observations with the odd disaster along the way. Best known for his work with the award-winning acoustic roots group Show of Hands, Steve has performed in venues from the Albert Hole in Bristol to the Albert Hall in London. His impressive back catalogue of songs are modern classics, still filling the folk clubs and festival fields, and forever influencing the next generation of folk artists. Steve says, 'A life on the road certainly has its challenges, but I can't say I'd do it differently if I had to start all over again. The format of 'Songs and Stories', and now 'Roadworks' allows me to share the stories I've collected over the years, along with plenty of observations along the way. It's just me, a radio mic and a couple of guitars which is daunting and liberating in equal measures, and it's enabled me to build elements into my shows which I've never been able to before.'
