Somewhere in a parallel universe little Alfie’s natural comedic performance skills were recognised by his doting parents who encouraged and developed his blossoming talent. After several years as a stage school brat Alfie’s angelic face was launched on stage and screen and the rest is history. Meanwhile, in this universe Alfie Moore was told to stop messing about in class before being ‘encouraged’ into the grinding, grimy world of an apprenticeship in the Sheffield steelworks. When recession hit he traded steel for copper by joining Humberside Police. In his 40s the two universes collided when Alfie made a bid for showbiz success – but unfortunately 30 years of shift-work and being punched in the face quite a lot, had left him with ‘a face for radio’. A face not so much ‘lived in’ as inhabited by a settlement of squatters with little regard to property maintenance and repair. This is the true story of ‘Fair Cop’ Alfie’s big plan to transition from the BBC radio waves to TV star. Could it be done? Or had Father Time decided that his time had passed?

Indie-folk singer, songwriter, guitarist and producer Josienne Clarke is often said to draw on traditional British folk inspirations, but is a thoroughly modern, multifaceted artist who follows her own compass.

The sound of Shooglenifty is unique and exciting, they call it "Acid Croft". They have created an exciting new nuance of Celtic music. The band's sound is essentially a mixture of Scottish West Highland tradition with Eastern European influences and an intoxicating, electric groove.

The Urban Folk Quartet's distinguishing features have much less to do with the traditional idea of genre. Yes, this is fiddle-led music that draws heavily from celtic dance forms and traditional song but from there on in it is unlike any folk band you have ever heard. Just as English country dance unassumingly met with big band jazz musicianship in the mid 20th century, The UFQ's approach to the folk ethos is to embrace any and every influence that genuinely makes sense of their time and place and makes sense in their music. From funk grooves to middle-eastern melodies, afrobeat to north Indian rhythms.

After a stunning debut show here at The Civic in 2024, Lee Newsome is back at The Civic Holmfirth with his amazing Elvis Ballad show Up Close & Personal Lee has been performing his tribute to the King for 4 years and he currently tours the UK in various theatres & clubs. Lee's simply stunning powerhouse vocals set him apart from every other Elvis tribute act out there. His show is a one man Elvis experience. With suits made by the actual man that made Elvis suits and Lee's attention to detail is simply second to none. The show is a jaw dropping experience from start to finish with customised projection visuals and indoor special effects, no other Elvis show comes close to this one. The Up Close & Personal show is a show that is not being currently performed anywhere. A show which concentrates solely on the love songs & power ballads of the King. Lee says of his show It's truly amazing what Elvis still means to people so many years after his passing.
