Folk at The Chapel Presents Charlotte Ridsdale and Russ Chandler. Charlottehas been a teacher of music in the Sheffield area for 25 years and in 2020 began making and performing her own music. She spent her childhood close to the General Cemetery and ended up living in Nether Edge. Jazz at The Chapel present Tomorrow's New Quartet Tomorrows New Quartet is quickly gaining a reputation as one of the most exciting jazz bands emerging from the British scene. Taking inspiration from Chick Coreas Return To Forever and Keith Jarretts European Quartet, Tomorrows New Quartet has been thrilling audiences all over the country with its engaging brand of modern jazz. JOE HARVEY-WHYTE & BOBBY LEE LAST RIDE Album Launch And Brown Fang A new project between ambient pedal steel explorer Joe Harvey-Whyte and psych-country guitarist Bobby Lee, Last Ride takes in Paris, Texas-esque dusty instrumentals, west coast canyon-rock, brit-folk pastoralism, kosmische choogle and new-age mellowness. The UK pair bonded over their broad church approach to cosmic country, where Eno and Arthur Russell stand shoulder to shoulder with Gram and JJ Cale. Individually, theyre both rare torch bearers of ambient americana on their side of the Atlantic. Brown Fang are a Post Modern Electronic Music group from Nottingham, formed by John Thompson and Henry Claude AKA Never Ending Birthdays.. Specialising in soundscapes for neon wildernesses and lonely robots, Brown Fang provide a unique sense of minimalism and haunting melodies that result in both hypnotic live shows and recordings. With influences as broad as Gary Numan, The Blue Nile, Durruti Column, Kraftwerk, Spiritualized and Robert Fripp, both Thompson and Claude are acclaimed musicians in their own right. Thompson has performed with Bent, Attraktors, JIM, Crazy P, The Selecter, Nectarine No.9 & Idris Elba amongst others and Claude as Fang Jr. & as electric guitarist with Torn Sail & Davoli. James Blackshaw at The Samuel Worth Chapel James Blackshaw Inspired by the 60s Takoma school of American primitive guitar, minimalist composers and European classical music, James Blackshaw has been highly regarded for his works for solo acoustic guitar since his debut album in 2003, employing fingerpicking techniques to create drones, overtones and repeating patterns, alongside a strong inclination for melody, to conjure instrumental music that is both intelligent, hypnotic and emotional. Blackshaw has collaborated with Lubomyr Melnyk, performed and recorded as a member of Current 93 and with Jozef Van Wissem as Brethren of the Free Spirit and toured and played shows with artists such as Swans (whose Michael Gira signed Blackshaw to his Young God label to release two albums in 2009 and 2010), Grails, Sir Richard Bishop, Jose Gonzales, Peter Walker, Alex De Grassi and Hauschka. In 2024, he self-released his first album in nine years, Unraveling in Your Hands. In an 8.0 review, Pitchfork called it the most straightforwardly beautiful and affecting record he has made since 2010s All Is Falling, noting of the 27-minute title track: It would be remarkable even if it wasnt a single-take recording; that it is, and also played through injury, makes the level of focus and expression feel nothing short of aspirational.
