Aberdeen Arts Centre, formerly ACT, has a broad programme of events alongside its long standing role as a commnunity theatre venue. The first public performance of The Cheviot, the Stag and the Black, Black Oil took place in the venue in 1973. It has a 350 seat auditorium as well as a studio space.

Max has been carving the pumpkins and putting up the decorations while Auntie Aggie has been practicing her best Trick or Treat jokes! They’ve sent out party invitations, but which frightfully funny characters are going to turn up? Packed with singalong songs and ghoulish games such as The Hokey Kokey, Incy Wincy Spider, and Head Shoulders Knees and Toes, this is a wickedly entertaining day out for the whole family. ‘The McDougalls: Halloween Party Show’ is filled with tricks and treats, guaranteed to have you screaming with laughter! Songwriter Sessions at Aberdeen Arts Centre
We are excited to be starting a new monthly group at Aberdeen Arts Centre. AAC Songwriter Sessions will be a group for local talent to thrive. We want to create a space for trying things out, listening to others, learning from experience and building up to performances. The group will meet once a month and will be acoustic - no mics, no amps, just voices, instruments and enthusiasm. The sessions will run like workshops, allowing everyone to learn from each other, share new work, get supportive feedback to build confidence and skill. This will be a safe space with half the focus on learning and half the focus on performing. The group will encourage the next generation of singer-songwriters and showcase the very best non-professional talent. Your home will be our Café Bar, a space for learning and performing. Dave Bremner will be leading the group and sharing his years of experience to build a group that is dynamic, supportive and creates opportunities. Sessions are be Pay What You Decide. Anyone aged 16 and above who is looking for a space to learn and share is welcome to join. This is a space for local amateur talent to thrive and grow.

Set in a school in the 1990's, Mark is head over heels in love with his girlfriend, Queen Bee, Shannon Van de Witt. When Shannon learns that pop-band impresario Simon Austin is the surprise judge at the State Talent Show, she dumps him for her chance at showbiz stardom. Mark rapidly goes from High School hero to High School zero. His garage band buddies rally around him and soon a plan for revenge is hatched to change their grunge band to a boy-band and snatch the Talent Show title from Shannons Candy Girls. Theres just one small problem... the boys cant dance! Mark enlists the help of the ultra talented, new girl, Ella to help with their boy band make over and sparks soon fly. Described by Classical Guitar Magazine as a guitarist of outstanding skill and originality, Scottish guitarist Ian Watt has performed all over the world, giving solo recitals in the USA, and throughout Europe and Asia. He has performed concertos with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, City of London Sinfonia and Scottish Philharmonic Orchestra and has been broadcast on BBC Radio 2, BBC Radio 3, BBC Radio Scotland and Classic FM, to name a few! Additionally, he has made three solo recordings for Nimbus Alliance and his playing has been described by the press as sublime (BBC Music Magazine), astoundingly atmospheric (The Herald) and dazzlingly virtuosic (The Herald). Noted for his exceptional range of timbre (BBC Music Magazine), Watts international prizes include 1st prize at the Heinsberg International Guitar Competition (2011), Germany, 1st prize at the Westphalian Guitar Spring Competition (2010), Germany, 2nd prize at the Parkening International Guitar Competition (2009), USA (often described as the worlds most prestigious) and 2nd prize at the Vienna Homage to Karl Scheit International Competition, 2010. In addition to performing, he is a committed teacher who has given masterclasses throughout the world and is at present a lecturer at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. Creative Writing and Illustration These workshops are aimed to inspire and encourage the stories and ideas in your head and onto paper. Each session has a mix of poetry and tales told by Sheena Blackwell as stimulus and participants can express in writing and illustration as they wish. The group welcomes sharing stories and can dip into any genre they would like to explore. Last term we saw extracts from this group used and interpreted by the drama groups in the youth festival 'light the Blue'. We would love to continue merging groups and showcasing work from the creative writing sessions. We provide a notebook and pencil in your first session.

Recording & Releasing Your Music with Tom Oakes
Join multi-instrumentalist and producer Tom Oakes for a practical workshop on recording and releasing your music, from initial concept to final release. This workshop will guide you through each stage of the process, highlighting where you can save money, where it pays to invest, and how to avoid common pitfalls. Tom will share insightful and helpful tips, and examples of what works (and what doesnt), helping you navigate your own recording project with greater confidence and clarity. 2019 Scots Trad Awards Musician of the Year nomineeTom Oakes is one of the UKs top flautists and multi-instrumentalists, as well as a sound designer, composer, producer, educator and label owner. Tom is known widely for his work with Shetland fiddler Ross Couper, genre-bending pan-Finnish act The Auvo Quartet, Scottish power trio OBT, and a new project with Scottish multi-instrumentalist Ali Hutton and award-winning London-Irish fiddler Matt Tighe, as well as his increasing profile as a solo performer. His album Water Street (2022) received global airplay and was longlisted for the 2022 MG ALBA Scots Trad Music Awards, while his solo show The Hearth premiered at the 2023 Edinburgh Fringe and was shortlisted for Best New Work at the 2023 awards. Join Simon Gall from Expressing Scotland CIC for this workshop exploring the process of writing funding applications to arts and cultural funders. Participants will learn how to identify the right funder(s), appraise their ideas against funder priorities, and write clear and compelling applications. Simon will also provide insights into managing both your project and professional finances. Simon Gall is the Director of Expressing Scotland CIC, a social enterprise that works to support the cultural communities of Scotland to achieve their cultural goals and ambitions. He has worked for many years as a fundraiser for arts and heritage organisations, securing innumerable small, medium and large grants to support professional and non-professional cultural projects. He also has experience on the other side of the funding process, and has worked as an assessor and panellist for funding bodies including local authorities, Higher Education organisations, and national funders. As a musician, Simon has played piano for the last 16 years with the award-winning Salsa Celtica, and was the founder of the contemporary trad duo Clype. Today he plays regularly with Scottish salsa bands Glasgow-based Son al Son and Edinburgh-based Latina Turners. Save Aberdeen Arts Centre and Feed The Seagull Productions are teaming up to put on a show like no other! Aberdeens 24 Hour Musical brings together some of the North Easts finest local talent to produce, learn, rehearse and perform a full scale musical in just one day! From 7:30pm on Saturday night, the cast and crew begin their journey of trying to put together an entire production! Everyone involved; from the performers, to the directors, stage crew and even the BSL interpreter are told which show theyll perform EXACTLY 24 HOURS before curtain up I mean, who needs sleep?! A fun filled night of delirium and sleep deprivation will then make its way on stage for curtain up at 7:30pm on the Sunday 27th July 2025. Will these talented performers pull together a brilliant show? Or will we have lines written on hands, people falling off stage and musical directors throwing their scores out the window? There's only one way to find out! And one thing is for certain, the show you see will be unlike any other that's come before! This evening of fundraising is chaotic, high-energy, and rarely perfect - but thats part of the charm! All proceeds go straight to the #SaveAberdeenArtsCentre campaign.

Take part in our free street theatre workshops at Aberdeen Arts Centre and perform this July at the Tall Ships in Aberdeen! Surges street theatre workshops are a chance to try something completely new and different, getting hands on experience in the world of the arts. The workshops are designed to be fun and playful, helping tease out your silly side in an inclusive environment. You will be guided and supported by professional artists and performers, with a wealth of experience in working with young people new to performing. Come together with others to spread joy in your community, while learning the ins and outs of street theatre and developing new skills - its complete free to attend and all costumes and props are provided! This summer, Aberdeen Arts Centre becomes a creative clubhouse for 5-11-year-olds to explore big ideas, get making, and try something new each day. Over two themed weeks in July, we’ll jump between sea monsters and skylines, imaginary cities and prepare for the Tall Ships' arrival through drama, craft, stories and play. Led by professional artists and supported by a friendly team, the camp offers a mix of structure, silliness and space to grow. Book for one day or the whole run – there’s plenty to discover, and no two days are the same. 20% discount available when booking for multiple children. - Why Join? This Summer Holiday Camp in Aberdeen is a chance for young people to stretch their imaginations, build confidence, and try out new skills in a playful, supportive setting. Whether your child loves performing, getting messy with materials, or just has a head full of ideas, there’s something here for them. It’s a creative boost in the middle of the holidays, away from screens, full of stories, and packed with things to make, do and share. - What to Expect Each day runs from 10am-3pm and is split into two creative sessions – one focused on drama, the other on arts and crafts. Children are grouped by age (5-7 and 8-11) and rotate between sessions, with a supervised lunch break and time to recharge in the middle of the day. Our experienced tutors and assistants are there throughout to support creativity, collaboration and confidence. Wishing upon a shooting star, wanting only one thing - to make a difference - Cinderella meets her fairy godmother and is whisked to Invergroovy with the flick of a wand. There's only one person who can help the characters get back to their right musical home: musicals superfan Cinderella! So grab your glass slippers, leave your curfew at the door, and come along for the wildest fairy tale you've never seen - Cinderella in Chaos awaits!
