Friday Concert Oban International Shanty Festival
The Oban international Shanty Festival has been rocking venues and the streets around Oban harbour since 2022. We have brought the cream of sea shanty singers and musicians to Scotland, many for the first time, as well as nurturing home grown talent to entertain locals and visitors alike with stories and songs of the sea, workshops and exhibitions. Shanties are great fun though created as worksongs they lend themselves to audience participation like no other music genre and their popularity has soared with every TikTok megahit and viseo games of piracy and adventures on the high seas. For the Friday Night Concert in the Argyllshire Gathering, we present the greatest shanty band that England has to offer, Kimber's Men, but also Aberdeen's finest close harmony trio, Tripple. Shanty band Black Deep also make their Scottish debut and we welcome back The Anthony Quines and Alex Cummings from the North East. Also making a welcome return will be Hans "Mr Bones" Weehuizen. No Oban Festival would be the same without him. Nor could we miss out Linn Phipps and her band The Rosabellas.
