Arts Theatre
The Arts Theatre is the smallest commercial receiving house in the West End, with a two-tier basement auditorium seating just 350. It was founded in 1927 as a members-only club performing plays unlicensed by the Lord Chamberlain, but by the 50s it had a reputation for being experimental; Peter Hall directed the English language premiere of Waiting for Godot here in 1955. From 1967 to 1999 it was home to Unicorn Children's Theatre, but since then it's received quirky, small-scale shows, from straight drama and musicals to cabaret and comedy. In 2011 it was acquired by celebrity bartender JJ Goodman, which perhaps explains why it's now home to the members-only Covent Garden Cocktail Club.
The nearest Tube stations are Leicester Square (Northern / Piccadilly) and Covent Garden (Piccadilly). The theatre is served by bus routes 24, 29, 176, N5, N20, N29, N41 and N279.
