John Hackett Band With Heather Findlay

John Hackett Band With Heather Findlay

19 Sept 2026 - 19 Sept 2026

The John Hackett Band The John Hackett Band embodies the spirit of progressive rock. From John's pastoral flute textures, through the funky interplay between drummer Duncan Parsons and bassist Jeremy Richardson to the intricacies of Nick Fletcher's lead guitar the group embrace pop, rock, jazz, classical, funk and all stops in-between, from the tenderest of ballads to hair-raising instrumental workouts! John Hackett has been a much-loved and admired figure in the progressive rock scene since the mid-70's; best-known for his flute work with his brother, former Genesis guitarist, Steve Hackett on albums such as Voyage of The Acolyte, Please Dont Touch and Spectral Mornings alongside his own solo albums Checking Out Of London, Another Life and The Piper Plays His Tune 2025 saw the release of their acclaimed second album, Red Institution and a tour taking the band from Glasgow to Penzance, Colchester to Oswestry; thrilling audiences with brand new tracks alongside classic Hackett material from the heyday of progressive rock. The 2026 tour is equally extensive, concluding with a run of dates in Belgium, Germany and The Netherlands. The band is delighted to be sharing the stage with such diverse and imaginative talents as Heather Findlay, Olga Dikajee, Dorie Jackson and EBB. Heather Findlay Known for her magical, evocative voice and an ability to interpret and inhabit a range of styles with a mix of power and feeling, Heather Findlay is one of the finest vocalists working in music today. Prog magazine lauded her, Deliciously sultry vocals, whilst Maverick magazine hailed her, Pure, crystalline voice. She grabs your heart in an almost vice-like grip. At 19 Heather was asked to join up-and-coming rock band Mostly Autumn. In the thirteen extraordinary years that followed, Bryan Josh, Heather and company went on to enjoy creative success, winning the most devoted of fans, writing and recording many albums together. The band toured internationally throughout that time. In her subsequent solo career Heather has continued to learn and to develop. The boundless depth and dynamism of her stage presence, coupled with the richness, power and beauty of that instantly identifiable voice continues to captivate listeners. Her latest album, Wildflower, released in 2025, steps into a stripped-back, authentic, soul-led era of writing with songs she hopes will open hearts and bring awareness to us all. When Zaid took the stage, his voice carried more than melody, it carried memory, longing, resistance, and love. As we chanted back Hala lala layya with him, we werent just singing we were remembering. Rooted in ancient folk song, these words echo a love so powerful it would be, Written on birds wings. Carried by wind. Etched in tears. In that moment, we sang not just for one another, but for all who long to be free. For Palestine. For the ones whose songs are interrupted. For the voices that rise even when silenced. It was joy... It was resistance. It was ancestral rhythm meeting modern grief. And it was holy. May we keep singing. May we never forget. Slo County Stumblers

Slo County Stumblers

7 Jul 2026 - 7 Jul 2026

Swell Music Agency is so excited to bring the SLO County Stumblers to Ashburton Arts Centre in Devon. Abby from Swell writes you won't want to miss their groovy fiddle tunes and stonking songs! Old Time is alive and well in the hands of SLO County Stumblers who bring the drive and grit stringband music deserves. They strike the perfect balance of taking the music seriously without taking themselves too seriously. It's clear they have a rollicking good time playing with each other. Lend your ears a spell and good times will ensue. Brad Kolodner, Folk Alley and Bluegrass Country Radio The SLO County Stumblers is an energetic American string band based in California's Central Coast. The band features fiddler Casy Meikle, guitarist David Baine, banjo player Daniel Bohlman, and Jerry James on bass. The band was formed in 2018 when Bassist, Jerry James pulled together an Old Time Music Gathering in Pozo, California at the Historic Pozo Saloon. Jerry cobbled together a front porch band for the gathering consisting of a couple of his local musician/fishing buddies to play banjo (Daniel Bohlman) and guitar (Stuart Mason) while a visiting SLO County native living in Nashville, Casy Meikle would hold it down on fiddle. Though the quartet had played a handful of times prior to the music gathering, what happened on the porch of that saloon was too good to be a one-off, the SLO County Stumblers were born. David Baine joined the band full time in 2023. The Stumblers are known for their high energy live shows where they perform hard-driving old time fiddle tunes and spirited songs, heavily influenced by the golden-era string bands of the 1920s and 30s. Their performance is filled with humorous stories and banter and is guaranteed to get feet moving across the dance floor. His compositions and repertoire are steeped in storytelling as he embraces the lineage of folk music in its truest form. These three approach their craft and arrangements with delicacy and thought, drawing influence from a plethora of traditions. A collaboration of three like-minded musicians presenting folk music through a contemporary lens. Eddie Gripper Trio

1 Jul 2026 - 1 Jul 2026

Eddie Gripper - Piano Clem Saynor - Double Bass Patrick Barrett-Donlon - Drums Performing music from his second album Americana (released April 2025), Eddie Gripper tells the story of an 8,000 km hitchhiking journey from Alaska to California, completed in under two months during the summer of 2022. The music captures the vast landscapes and unforgettable moments along the way - from sleeping in the Alaskan wilderness to cycling down Santa Monica Pier - offering a vivid, hopeful, yet unflinching reflection on American life. Having already garnered comparisons with the greats (Jazzwise) after the release of his debut album Home, Eddie Gripper has been rapidly establishing himself as young contender on the national jazz circuit. He has worked alongside top musicians in his field, including Huw Warren, Iain Ballamy, Laura Jurd and Yuri Golubev. "Gripper's engaging reflections on the spirit of his American journey are elegantly performed, unhurried and carry moments of real beauty. There is a distinct grace and sophistication in his playing, and the creativity shown here is extremely satisfying" All About Jazz "Eddie Gripper is rapidly establishing a reputation for himself as one of the UK's most exciting young jazz pianists" Jazzwise Ashburton Arts Centre Always three prices please pay what you can. Aluca Workshop (and Concert)

11 Jul 2026 - 11 Jul 2026

Aluca Trio hails from Andalucía and the Balearics, and its three members teach and sing polyphonic songs rooted in the traditions and vocal and sound aesthetic of the Northwest Mediterranean. Their approach is to tell stories through song, connecting listeners to the past through living traditions that speak also to the present day - songs of lament, celebration, and play, together with sacred songs, lullabies, and original compositions. Always they seek to present the songs with context and expression that ensures they resonate with the lived experiences of both singers and listeners. Their workshops are a masterclass in teaching. Patient, clear, engaging and fun, they are highly responsive to the needs of their students, and bring the songs to life with their deep insight into the essential characteristics of their musical heritage. The workshop is open to all. Songs will be taught by ear, and there is no need to read music or to know the language. The polyphonic songs of the Northwest Mediterranean, which they will teach, are highly accessible, and an ideal introduction to folk music from beyond the British Isles. Martyn Joseph

Martyn Joseph

5 Nov 2026 - 5 Nov 2026

Take everything you think you know about singer songwriters and rip it up. For one man and a guitar he creates a performance with a huge far-reaching sound that is energetic, compelling, and passionate. Be it to two hundred people or twenty thousand, he blows the crowd away night after night. After being signed to Sony Music in the early 1990s, for whom he recorded 2 albums and achieved Top 40 chart success, Martyn became a trailblazer for independent musicians. He launched his own record label in 1999 forging a successful career using the internet, ahead of many other artists. In November 2025 he released his 28th studio album, Troubled Horses, in Martyn's own words, I wanted to create a record that felt up-close and personal, songs that are sitting right next to you, on the edge of too close for comfort. It's an album of haunting, elegiac songs, acoustically-recorded pared-back lo-fi snapshots. In 2024 he was invited by BBC Radio 2 for a second time to write a song as part of their brand new award winning 21st Century Folk project, penning and performing Chapel Porth Beach, to mark the 200th Anniversary of the RNLI. This was following on from the success of his 2023 track, Albert's Place, which featured in the original series, and which included appearances on BBC Breakfast TV, the Jeremy Vine and Ken Bruce shows on BBC Radio 2 along with Radio 4's World at One. His critically-acclaimed 2021 record, 1960 was made Folk Album of The Month in Mojo and awarded 4 starts by Uncut, and remained in the UK Official Folk charts for much of 2022. In April 2019 he won a Wales Folk Award for Here Come the Young, and in 2023 he was nominated for Best Solo Artist. In 2015 Martyn was commissioned by the English Folk Dance and Song Society (EFDSS) and Folk by the Oak, in partnership with the Houses of Parliament's Parliament in the Making programme as part of the Sweet Liberties project, to write the song Nye (Song for the NHS) to commemorate the 500 year anniversary of the signing of the Magna Carta, and launched the song in the Speaker's Chamber of the UK Houses of Parliament. He is gifted with the rare ability to speak to the soul with his expressive and poignant lyrics and has a career spanning over 40 years, 27 studio albums, over a half a million record sales and thousands of live performances. Compared to Bruce Springsteen, John Mayer, Bruce Cockburn and Dave Matthews, he has created his own style and reputation as a mesmerising live performer and stands in his own right, built on a reputation for giving what thousands have described as the best live music experience of their lives. A unique talent driven by passion, social awareness, and love for his trade, he's a jaw dropping guitar player who has developed a unique percussive style, teamed up with a powerful show stopping voice, and has been called The Welsh Springsteen. Concerned with making music that is relevant and vital to his audience, he engages with challenging narratives tackling the complexity of the human condition, underpinned with a promise of hope. In his own words, I guess I try to write songs that can step up and speak to that given moment in time. A good song makes you feel like youre not alone in the world. Martyn is also founder, along with his wife Justine, of the charity Let Yourself Trust. LYT works alongside Martyn's music to help give profile to and fund grassroots organisations across the globe. They have given away over a million pounds to over 20 different projects in the last 11 years. He is hailed as a raconteur weaving tales on political and human issues, as well as stories on the fragility of love, with a magical ability to reach out to his listeners through his passion and commitment. Stunning reviews single him out as an unmissable solo performer whose music stays with you long after the show has ended. martynjoseph.net facebook.com/martynjosephwales twitter.com/martyn_joseph Instagram @martynjosephmusic Youtube videos Last Night I Heard America Let Me Hear Your Voice Chapel Porth Beach It's a Fine Thing Albert's Place Born Too Late Nye Song for the NHS Press Quotes Martyn Joseph is who John Hammond thought he was getting when he signed Springsteen to Columbia Records in 1972 Dave Marsh, Rolling Stone Stunning, heartfelt music Bob Harris BBC Radio 2 Relevant, challenging and vital Songlines Folk Legend Gary Davies, BBC Radio 2 Genuine emotional cloutand must count as one of his best MOJO 1960 4 I couldnt help but be reminded of Springsteen's Nebraska Irish Music Magazine (1960 review) Full of treasured memories and universal themes of joy and sadness Uncut 1960 8/10 review He's never sounded more potent than he does hereUncut "Intelligent and enlightened songs are both energising and provocativefrom subtle tenderness to growly indignation. If there were ever a band which just rocks, this is it. Supremely tight, funky playing from all three musicians, it deserves to be on a huge stage in front of thousands but each year they return to Ashburton Arts Centre to play this amazing stuff to our small (but perfectly formed!) old chapel, where it just sounds fantastic. Simply great musicians, and three lovely guys. Come and see them you won't regret it! Andy Williamson, Ashburton Arts Centre B.D. Lenz is a funky/jazz guitarist from the New York area and first played Ashburton Arts Centre in 2023. He has released 13 highly acclaimed recordings as a leader (featuring such jazz greats as Mike Stern, Randy Brecker, Mark Egan, Will Lee, & Joel Rosenblatt) and has played thousands of gigs in North America, UK, and Europe. His music has been featured in hundreds of TV programmes globally including Breaking Bad (AMC), Catfish (MTV), and Young Sheldon (CBS) to name a few. The New Jersey native has played guitar since his early teens, is a graduate of Musicians Institute in Los Angeles, and has studied with such masters as Mike Stern, Vic Juris, and Charlie Banacos along the way. Part of the reason for his accessibility is that he not only fuses jazz and rock, he complements it with warm chords of funk, soul, and rhythm and blues New York Times Ashburton Arts Centre Always three prices please pay what you can.
