Enjoy a traditional cream tea onboard one of our heritage steam trains. Guests will be served a hot cup of tea or coffee alongside their scones with cream & jam, all whilst sitting back & enjoying the journey. This dining event is the perfect opportunity to enjoy the delights of the steam railway with an added touch of indulgence! Seats are in open carriages around tables of two or four people and our onboard bar will be open for additional drinks. When you arrive at the station, please collect your boarding card from the station booking office. The train will be ready to board at 1530 and departs at 1545 north to Oldland Common. You'll next travel south to Avon Riverside, enjoying the delightful scenery of the Avon Valley, before returning to Bitton at approximately 1640. Unfortunately, due to the historic nature of the carriage used for our Traditional Cream Tea, we are unable to accommodate passengers in wheelchairs. Selecting From The Menu Having selected your seats and added them to the basket, you will next be able to choose the meal suited to your your dietary requirement. Simply select the appropriate quantity of each type of meal, so that all the members of the party are catered for. Unfortunately on our Traditional Cream Tea dining service we are unable to cater for vegan diets.

In 2025 we're offering you the chance to go on the footplate and join the crew as they take you on a full round trip of the line. On the footplate ride, you'll get to watch what's involved in operating one of our steam or diesel locomotives as it hauls the day's passenger service. In this special opportunity to access our footplate, you'll be able to see first hand how the volunteer crew get our engines moving, and experience a ride on our line like never before! Please note, whilst you'll need to be physically fit, able to climb up into the cab and be able to stand for the duration of the journey, this is not a full Driver Experience and you won't be driving the train. Important Information Footplate Rides are not a full Driver Experience and you wont be driving the train. You must be aged 18 years or over, physically fit, and able to stand for up to one hour. The experience is limited to one person per time slot. Due to the historic nature of our locomotives, wheelchairs are not able to gain access to the footplate. On booking you will receive a booking confirmation.  Please show this at the booking office on the day to exchange for your train tickets.  We advise you arrive 15/20 minutes prior to departure.

Join us for a trip onboard one of our steam-hauled or diesel trains to make lasting memories with the whole family.  Your journey lasts fifty minutes and you'll travel both ways from Bitton Station.  First you'll head north to our station at Oldland Common.  Next you'll travel back south onto the more scenic part of your journey to our station at Avon Riverside before returning to Bitton.  At either end of the line you're welcome to disembark and watch the locomotive running round to the other end of the train. At Bitton, our station buffet and gift shop will be open throughout the day, where you can enjoy our delicious selection of hot food and drinks, as well as browsing through our shop to find a souvenir from your visit.  Ticket Information Wheelchair Users and those with Access needs should contact the railway Booking Office on 0117 932 5538 to purchase tickets. On booking you will receive a booking confirmation.  Please show this at the booking office on the day to exchange for your train tickets.  We advise you arrive 15/20 minutes prior to departure. Online ticket sales close 2 hours before departure. Tickets can still be purchased after this time at the Booking Office prior to departure.

Enjoy a ride on our iconic restored locomotive from the Fry's chocolate factory, returning for a limited series of dates this October. Discover more about this special locomotive and its local history from our displays at the station and through talking to the retired Fry's employees who will be joining us.  We will be operating a passenger steam train service alongside offering brake van rides on our Fry's loco - with both rides included in the price of your ticket. Best of all, every passenger will enjoy a chocolatey treat as they travel the line Ticket Information Wheelchair Users and those with Access needs should contact the railway Booking Office to purchase tickets. This Halloween, things are getting spooky at the station. Join us on the 1st & 2nd November for a steam-hauled train ride accompanied by Gizmo the Magic Wizard.  Then, back at Bitton, see birds of prey from Pitcombe Rock Falconry and enjoy our autumnal trail around the station.  But, best of all, children who come in Halloween fancy dress will travel FREE of charge! Ticket Information Wheelchair Users and those with Access needs should contact the railway Booking Office to purchase tickets. Join us at the Avon Valley Railway to make unforgettable Christmas memories onboard our 2025 Santa Special.  Once onboard our festive trains the whistle will sound and you'll depart on your fifty minute train ride. Whilst you're travelling, you'll enjoy a mince pie or festive biscuit and Santa will pass through the train saying hello to everyone. Then, when you return to Bitton Station each family group will meet Santa again and all good boys and girls will receive a present from him too! There will also be the chance for your family group to take photographs and create those special festive memories. New for 2025, upgrade to our Premium Santa experience to enjoy quality time with Santa from the comfort of our first-class dining carriage. Spend more time with Santa as he joins you on his festive throne in our beautifully decorated carriage, where children can spend precious time with him and his elves whilst they collect their present. All Premium Santa passengers will also enjoy a cosy hot chocolate alongside their festive sweet treat whilst you travel the line. Finally, you'll be pleased to know that the festive Christmas donkeys will be returning once again and you'll be able to see these on the lawn at Bitton Station, either before or after you've travelled on the train. Join us for a special weekend to celebrate all things Railway 200 at the Avon Valley Railway.  A global event, 2025 marks 200 years since the birth of the railway. This year, railways across the country and beyond are putting on events to mark this special occasion by celebrating their own part in this important piece of national history.  On the 27th & 28th September, expect to find Morris dancers, performances from local choirs, impressive model railway layouts, vintage transport displays, and more, right here at Bitton station. As well as enjoying a full day of entertainment which promises fun for all the family, ride behind four of our home fleet engines with unlimited access to a frequent and varied timetable of train running across both days.  Ticket Information On booking you will receive a booking confirmation.  Please show this at the booking office on the day to exchange for your train tickets.  We advise you arrive 15/20 minutes prior to departure.
