Band on the Wall
A not-for-profit venue run by charity Inner City Music that aims to present the best in world music. Live music and club nights cover a wide range of genres including acoustic, rock, ska, funk, reggae and jazz. As well as live events they run an education programme of inspiring, non formal learning; work with Manchester University to offer accredited courses in music industry skills and are the base for Band on the Wall TV. The venue boasts a picturehouse, cafe bar, meeting rooms and breakout spaces as well as an extensive archive of audio-visual recordings of past performances.
Band on the Wall is located in the Northern Quarter just 10 minutes walk from Piccadilly Gardens Bus Station and 15 minutes walk from Piccadilly and Victoria Railway Stations. There are no parking spaces at the venue.

Police Dog Hogan are a high-energy and eclectic eight-piece, combining fiddle, trumpet, mandolin, drums and guitars with four-part harmonies in an exuberant and genre-defying fusing of country, pop, folk, and rocking urban bluegrass. Much-loved Guardian columnist Tim Dowling adds his banjo to the musical mix.
The Sunday Times has described them as “wonderful”; the Telegraph named them one of its ‘favourite new bands”; Mark Radcliffe on Radio 2 said a “great night out was guaranteed” at their joyful shows; and veteran DJ Johnnie Walker praises their gigs as “a really good, fun time”.
Eliot James (of Kaiser Chiefs, Bloc Party, Noah and the Whale, and Two Door Cinema Club fame) produced the band’s second CD, and Al Scott (Seth Lakeman, Oysterband, The Levellers, Asian Dub Foundation) oversaw the new album, ‘Wild By the Side of the Road’, which spent several weeks in the official UK Americana charts.
Police Dog Hogan were one of only three UK bands invited to Nashville to perform at the prestigious Americana Music Association Awards, where DJ Bob Harris – in town for the awards – snapped them up for a recording that has become one of the most-watched YouTube videos on his “Under the Apple Tree Sessions” channel.
Jazz Sabbath

Jazz Sabbath are a jazz trio from the UK that plays instrumental jazz interpretations of Black Sabbath songs. Helmed by pianist Adam Wakeman (Black Sabbath and Ozzy Osbourne’s solo band since 2004), the group explores the boundaries between jazz and the songs that defined heavy metal, echoing already present jazz riffs and discovering new ones.
Presenting themselves as a jazz trio formed in 1968 and the original writers of the tracks later made famous by Black Sabbath, they released their self-titled debut album in 2020. In 2022, their second album was released, entering the Billboard jazz album chart at number six. A European tour followed, which saw the group play sold-out shows at the EFG London Jazz Festival and other venues across the continent.

For more than 35 years, Dave Weckl has developed and maintained a reputation among fans, peers, and the international music community, as one of the great living drummers. His contributions to iconic music, music education, and the gear that drummers use, are many. Modern Drummer magazine has inducted Weckl into their Hall of Fame (2000) and named him “one of the 25 best drummers of all time.”
These honors, in addition to many more bestowed by the music community, are the product of Weckl’s commitment to excellence. His dynamic and diverse drumming, which has inspired musicians worldwide, is built on a foundation of knowledge and passion.
For this new project, Weckl joins forces with electric bass maestro Tom Kennedy, plus saxophonist Bob Franceschini and Stu Mindeman on keys.

The Sheepdogs

For a new album that The Sheepdogs didn't initially set out to make, Changing Colours is a stunning achievement.
Proud purveyors of guitar-driven modern-day retro rock, the triple Juno Award-winning Saskatoon-based quintet has expanded its sound on Changing Colours to encompass more styles and hues to enhance the Sheepdogs' trademark beef-and-boogie twin-axe riffs, hooks, shuffles and long-haired aesthetic.
'We identify strongly with rock 'n roll, but there's definitely some branching out,' says Ewan Currie, The Sheepdogs' singer, guitarist, songwriter and occasional and yes, you're reading this correctly clarinetist. 'The sounds we use on this there's more keyboards featuring Shamus and more stringed instruments. It's still rock 'n roll but there are more colours.'
It's also great, passionate music born out of spontaneity: first resonating in the 17-song album's euphoric opener Nobody and continuing to flavour such invigorating numbers as the electrifying Saturday Night and the driving I've Got A Hole Where My Heart Should Be, the record's infectious first single.
But The Sheepdogs haven't only stretched their sonic palate: they've also expanded stylistically, tastefully embracing other genres as well.
There's the country-lite feel of Let It Roll, the Stax-soul aura of the mid-tempo anthem I Ain't Cool that features trombone and the resplendent Latin-rock vibe that fuels The Big Nowhere.

Much-loved Altered Images, fronted by singer Clare Grogan, had four UK Top 20 hits between 1981 and 1983, including the singles “Happy Birthday” and “I Could Be Happy”, as well as three Top 30 albums.
At the same time as finding fame with Altered Images, Clare Grogan also appeared in the 1981 film Gregory's Girl. She has also acted in Red Dwarf, EastEnders, Father Ted, and Skins. In recent years she has also become a presenter on UK television as well as a children's novelist.

Come early 2017, Fatherson – comprised of vocalist/guitarist Ross Leighton bassist Marc Strain and drummer Greg Walkinshaw – found themselves at a turning point. Digging up their roots and decanting to a new studio home in Glasgow, they longed for a change. Sum Of All Your Parts (out September 14th via Easy Life Records) is the result, and their most assured record to date. Forming in Kilmarnock, Scotland, in early 2010, Fatherson immediately captured hearts with their raw, honest alt-rock sound.

Josh Mason-Quinn is a London-based DJ, label A&R, event programmer, and founder of new music discovery platform Somewhere Soul.
Obsessed with the idea that his favourite music is still out there waiting to be discovered, he’s garnered an online following of over 1 million music fans who are locked into his music selections spanning jazz fusion, psychedelic soul, Afro-funk, global groove, and more.
Cutting his teeth behind the decks at university, Josh quickly became a regular on the club circuit in Nottingham, holding down multiple residencies and supporting household names such as Maribou State and FKJ. After moving to London and launching Somewhere Soul, Josh expanded his music curation into live shows, and 2024 marked the launch of his Music to Expand Your Horizons live event series, with sold-out dates at both 91 Living Room and Jazz Cafe.

China Moses is a high voltage soul/jazz diva with a career as a singer as well as presenter for MTV France, TSF Jazz Radio and more.
The daughter of Dee Dee Bridgewater and director Gilbert Moses was born in Los Angeles and raised in Paris, France. Her albums brought her work with renowned names like Guru, DJ Mehdi, Karriem Riggins, Meshell Ndegeocello, Anthony Marshall and sound engineer Bob Power.
After her the release of her first single “Time” at the age of 16, more successful albums followed and in 2009, she released the album “This One’s For Dinah” (Blue Note France), a tribute to her idol Dinah Washington, with the pianist Raphaël Lemonnier. The musicians carried on working together in 2012 with the album “Crazy Blues” (Decca/UMG), named by the UK “Times” as one of the Top 100 albums of 2013. These two projects took her on the road where Moses developed a keen sense of stage.
On her last album ‘Nightintales’ (EDEL), China turned her attention to carving out her own terrain. The resulting twelve songs are destined to become new standards. Like an archer, Moses draws from the quiver of her musical forbears, sending arrows true and further than those who preceded her. She is the rare young, female artist - capable of swinging with the finest and drawing on her innate mastery of tempo. Her R&B heritage allows her to smile around a phrase, carry emotions across a lyric and infuse profundity in every note.

C.W. Stoneking is an Australian blues singer-songwriter and guitar and banjo player. To date Stoneking has released three full length albums of his original material, they are King Hokum, Jungle Blues and Gon' Boogaloo. (released on Stoneking's own King Hokum Records label).
C.W. Stoneking was born in Katherine, Northern Territory, in 1974, the son of Billy Marshall Stoneking. In 2005 Stoneking recorded an album of original blues compositions titled King Hokum. The album was received with great critical acclaim in the Australian media after its release in 2006. In 2006, Stoneking formed his backing band, the Primitive Horn Orchestra who he still performs with. The current lineup is James Clark (tuba, double bass), Stephen Grant (cornet), Stu Barker (trombone), and Johnny Machin (drums).
In 2006, radio presenter Tim Ritchie picked Stoneking's King Hokum as his album of the year on Radio National's Breakfast program. Radio National also presented his February 2007 Australia-wide tour. King Hokum was nominated for the Best Blues/Roots Album in the 2007 ARIA Awards and won the Best Independent Blues Release award in the 2007 AIR Awards (Australian Independent Record Industry Awards). In 2008 Stoneking released Jungle Blues, his second album of original compositions. Jungle Blues was nominated for Best Blues/Roots Album, Best Independent Release, Best Male Artist and Best Album Cover Art at the 2009 ARIA Awards. At the fourth annual AIR Awards held on 22 November 2009, Stoneking was nominated for Best Independent Album, Best Independent Blues/ Roots Album, and Independent Artist of the Year, with Jungle Blues winning the award for Best Independent Blues/ Roots Album. Jungle Blues was also shortlisted in the 2008 Australian Music Prize. He appeared on 'Later... with Jools Holland' on 5 October 2010, playing " Jungle Blues" and "Jungle Lullaby".

Progressive Jazz Rock Legends Colosseum will be on the road again with a new line-up consisting of original frontman Chris Farlowe, guitarist Clem Clempson and bassist Mark Clarke. Formed in 1968 by Jon Hiseman and Dick Heckstall-Smith after leaving the Graham Bond Organization and John Mayall's Bluesbreakers, Colosseumreleased their debut LP Those Are About To Die Salute You in 1969.
Later the same year they became the first act to release an LP, Valentyne Suite, on the collectible Vertigo record label who went on to release records by Black Sabbath and Status Quo amongst others. Colosseum went on to release a further two LP's before splitting in 1971. Band members went on to join bands such as Humble Pie, Atomic Rooster, Greenslade and more.

The native Londoner started playing drums at the age of 8, picking up the guitar and ukulele soon after. She spent her early teens discovering her musician parents record collection, an eclectic mix of artists: Zero 7, Tania Maria, Seal, Pat Metheny and more. She began exploring her own love of songwriting, jazz and alternative harmony studying at both the Roundhouse and Royal Academy Of Music.
Partial to a DIY-slant, Rosie set off laying out multi-layered guitar-based demos on Cubase at the age of 16. These would eventually become her self-produced debut album 'On My Mind' (2018), a unique collection of songs which garnered praise from BBC 6 Musics Tom Robinson, BBC Radio 1s Abbie McCarthy, Becca Stevens badass, with Jazzwise Magazine hailing her one to watch.

For one night only, a true Transylvanian after hours táncház with "king of gypsy music" Tcha Limberger is coming to Band on the Wall. For the uninitiated, a táncház (dance house) is an electrifying night of folk music and dance; a traditional Transylvanian village party transported to Manchester's northern quarter.
This is not a sit down concert. In common with the Irish ceilidh tradition, everyone is invited to get on the dance floor, learn the steps, make friends and become part of the music. Expect swirling circle dances, high energy fiddles and feet and a full on party atmosphere.
The event is a double celebration. It marks 10 years of Manchester's Transylvanian-rooted international folk festival Góbéfest (19-21 June 2026, Cathedral Gardens) and the birthday of internationally acclaimed master musician Limberger, who was born blind into a musical Roma/Flemish family.
Tonight, he plays with the Tcha Limberger Kalotaszeg Trio, who are Tcha Limberger (violin, vocals), Toni Rudi (brac) and David Otto Varga (double bass). They are joined by the highoctane Bekecs Dance Theatre band direct from Transylvania.

These days, David Ford feels much more at home operating on the fringes of the music business, not trying to be famous, not trying to get rich. It might be an unconventional way to conduct a musical career, but this is not a conventional guy, as evidenced by his most recent album, Animal Spirits, a surprisingly accessible, even soulful collection of songs about economics.
As an artist Ford still defies classification or comparison. Singer-songwriter doesn’t begin to cover it. He writes and performs with fluency across multiple genres, plays every instrument on the stage and even invents new ones to create truly unique recordings and performances. Ford’s trademark one-man loop machine circus grows more complex and audacious every year, but then he is just as likely to show up with a six-piece band, a string quartet, jazz drummer or a choir and his most recent UK tour proved he can be equally compelling sat in an armchair, playing acoustic guitar and telling stories. The result is a live spectacle described by The Guardian as “unmissable”.
As well as playing sold-out headline shows on both sides of the Atlantic, he has toured with and supported artists such as Elvis Costello, Allen Toussaint, Ray LaMontagne, Aimee Mann, Sara Bareilles, Gomez, Aqualung, Richard Ashcroft, Suzanne Vega, Augustana, Ingrid Michaelson and Jakob Dylan.

The first album Oddity was full of promises for the start of an epic journey, but it is on stage where he starts to carve his signature – costumes, make-up, psychedelic atmospheres, humour and sensuality. Yes, you think of Genesis, of Alice Cooper and David Bowie, of Led Zeppelin and Pink-Floyd too. But eventually, you will no longer think of anybody else.
Following the release of the highly anticipated 'Torn Apart', featuring special guest Steve Hackett (Genesis), the 'Tearing the Tour Apart' hit the road in Europe and Franck reinforced his show as one of the most irresistible in the rock scene. 2017 saw the release of a live DVD/BluRay of the tour, which, after about 100 dates, ended with a standing ovation on stage of the Loreley 'Night of the Prog' festival in front of 6000 people.
Carducci, as Master of Ceremonies, leads his Rock n Roll Circus where each of his players embodies a side of his music. Who can explain how a 12 string guitar extra neck would be added to a bass guitar, how a powerful guitar riff would go with a hot belly dance, or a Mellotron solo would end up in a duel with a didgeridoo? Who can also explain how Achilles, guitar and sword in hand, would kidnap a sensual Alice from her Wonderland?
However, let them pick you up and take you in the palm of their hands – you won’t want to leave until the very last note of the concert. Your senses will not be given a second of rest while these characters take you to a place where dreams are kings, emotions are queens and musical genres are crossed with no borders.

His mesmerizing solo set juxtaposes his raw, passionate voice and intensely emotive melodies, intricate African guitar lines with an ingenious use of loops and effects to create a sun-kissed groove, Sawa Blues - the title of his forthcoming album.

They didn’t have a plan. But they had guitars. With explosive live performances of singalong anti-anthems, Pet Needs began smashing sets on stages throughout the UK, screaming stories of disastrous job interviews, self-destruction and heading down the river on an inflatable kayak.

Gustavo Andrade & The Brasukas are an 11-piece band led by Brazilian saxophonist Gustavo Andrade from Sao Paulo. Andrade studied jazz at Leeds Conservatoire and quickly became a member of several top jazz, nu-soul and hip-hop bands in the city. After the pandemic re-opening in summer 2021, he returned to the scene playing Brazilian music, firstly with his bossa jazz band Quinteto Gustavo Andrade and then in 2023, with his 11 piece big band The Brasukas.

Ryan Young brings new and exciting ideas to traditional Scottish music, receiving international praise for his spell-binding interpretations on the fiddle. His debut album was recorded with four time GRAMMY winner Jesse Lewis (who has worked with the likes of Bela Fleck and YoYoMa) and launched at Feakle Traditional Music Festival in County Clare, accompanied by renowned guitarist, Dennis Cahill (Martin Hayes; The Gloaming). Ryan was nominated for Album Of The Year at the 2024 MG ALBA Scots Trad Awards; Live Act Of The Year at the 2023 Awards, and Musician of the Year at the 2022 Awards.
Ryan brings new life to very old, often forgotten tunes by playing them in his own unique way. He sings through the fiddle and his playing is often described as poetry without words. Ryan’s music is brimming with fresh melodic ideas, an uplifting rhythmic drive and a great depth of dynamics and precision. His sound is very distinctive and takes the listener on an emotional and adventurous journey in any performance.
He holds both a first class honours and a Masters degree from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, was twice a finalist in the BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Awards, and twice a finalist in the prestigious BBC Radio Scotland Young Traditional Musician of The Year. He was awarded ‘Up And Coming Artist Of The Year’ at the Scots Trad Awards in, nominated for the Horizon Award at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards and awarded.
De Staat

De Staat are a rock band opening the floodgates to an intoxicating, even dizzying, array of genres, which is not particularly unusual for them. It’s been woven into their DNA since day one. The massive lead single ‘KITTY KITTY’ couldn’t serve as a better primer for the upcoming album. Not only does the labyrinthine six-minutes and 45-seconds boast a gigantic, bubbling bassline, it also boldly attempts to capture the conflicting arguments transpiring on the global political stage right now.
´´That song is very much based on when Trump arrived. ” explains Torre. ´´ It’s a collection of words and sentences which came into my head during that campaign – it’s about the creation of different groups in society and how they’re completely in their own bubble. ”
Through their own brand of rock more and more people are noticing them over the years, which led De Staat to landing some highly coveted support slots including The Rolling Stones in Amsterdam and a run with Muse across Europe with their blockbusting 2016 Drones tour.
After this tour impending stardom is not going to their heads and Torre was preoccupied with the idea of De Staat’s new fifth album. De Staat have many new, bold and diverse songs at their disposal.
Across three more colourful albums, 2011’s Machinery , 2013’s I_Con and 2016’s O , De Staat have established a chameleonic brand of rock that is wholly their own – a band who cite the influence of everyone from Talking Heads, Rihanna, and Nine Inch Nails to Radiohead, Michael Jackson, Run-DMC and Soulwax.

‘Don’t do that - you’ll miss the sunset.’ Sam Browne’s new poetry show is equal parts hard-hitting and hopeful, with a decent helping of humour in the mix as well. It explores both mental health and masculinity while telling the story of what got Sam through his darkest days.
Sam Browne is a spoken word poet from Southend, Essex, who originally set out to be a stand-up comedian until he realised all his jokes rhymed and were all a bit sad. So he pivoted to poetry, and things started to click. Since then, Sam has developed an online following of over 100,000 followers on Instagram as well as tens of millions of views. He has won awards for his activism work, numerous poetry slams and was more recently featured in the BBC documentary Eastenders investigates the Manosphere and in the Guardian . He writes about masculinity, VAWG, and, less importantly, all his big feelings. He is known for his chaotic and humorous stage presence as well as his hard-hitting poetry.
