Locksbrook Lates: Creativity Comes Alive After Hours at Bath Spa Universitys Locksbrook Campus Locksbrook Lates 06: Meet The Makers/Degree Show Join us for an evening of conversation, creativity and celebration. Throughout the evening, there will be makers talks from exhibiting artists and designers, offering insight into their processes, ideas and practices. There may even be a chance to try new things. The degree show will be open throughout the event, giving visitors the chance to explore the work on display, and a bar will be available across the evening. Come and learn new skills, spark your own ideas, and be part of conversations that matter. Locksbrook Lates is about opening up the campus to our creative community and the city giving people a chance to connect, collaborate and celebrate creativity in all its forms. Its a space where ideas, art, and people come together. Each session will spotlight different themes from contemporary making and sustainable design to wellbeing and sound Entry is free and open to all, including the public There is an Alumni Drinks Reception from 6pm - Booking is required for this. Build a solid, practical foundation in screen printing over two engaging evening sessions in our Beginners Screenprinting workshop. This hands-on course will give you the confidence to create professional-quality prints and bring your ideas to life using a range of techniques. Working in a print studio environment, youll learn how to transfer your own designs onto silkscreens and experiment with different creative approaches. Alongside fellow participants, youll explore drawing and image-making techniques to develop bold, colourful designs ready for print. Over the two evenings, youll be introduced to the full screen-printing process, from preparing your artwork and creating stencils, to setting up your dedicated silk screen and printing your designs. With step-by-step guidance, youll gain experience using essential tools and equipment while building your skills in a supportive group setting. By the end of the course, youll have produced a series of your own original prints, suitable for personal use or sale, along with a clear understanding of the materials and methods involved. Designed for beginners, this course is ideal for anyone looking to explore screen printing and develop a strong creative foundation in a short, focused format. The next course takes place 10 and 11 June, 6pm - 9pm. Please wear old clothes as the workshop can be messy, all other materials will be provided.

Experience the fundamentals of ceramics in a professional studio environment at Bath Spa Universitys Locksbrook Campus during this Throwing Ceramics workshop. This hands-on taster workshop offers a relaxed and supportive introduction to working with clay on the potters wheel. Led by experienced Ceramic Demonstrator Louise Blois, youll learn essential wheel-throwing techniques and create your own pottery pieces to take home. During the session, you'll learn how to centre clay on the potters wheel, how to create bowls, plates, and vessels and how to decorate your work using a selection of decorative slips. By the end of the workshop, youll have produced a selection of ceramic pieces which will be glazed and kiln-fired for you, ready for collection approximately three to four weeks later. Throwing Ceramics is ideal for complete beginners with no prior ceramics experience and is a fun, creative, and welcoming introduction to the potters wheel. Cost This course costs 125 per person. All materials, tools and equipment are included. This also includes the cost of firing your work made throughout the session. What to bring Please bring along an apron or wear clothing you dont mind being dirty and covered in clay.

Explore experimental approaches to colour, texture, and surface design in this hands-on Ceramic Surface workshop. Working with stoneware and porcelain tiles, plaster moulds, and slip-casting techniques, youll create a series of tiles and investigate a range of processes for creating expressive ceramic surfaces through play, experimentation, and material exploration. During the workshop youll explore: Resist and embossed surfaces: Experiment with wax resist and embossing methods to create layered patterns, depth, and texture. Dusting and printing techniques: Use oxides and ceramic stains to produce subtle tonal effects and transferred imagery. Mono-printing with decorative slips and underglaze colours: Create painterly, one-off surface designs using slips and underglazes with spontaneity and movement. Mark making with underglaze chalks: Draw directly onto surfaces using underglaze chalks to explore line, gesture, and personal expression. By the end of the workshop, youll have developed a deeper understanding of ceramic surface techniques and created a collection of unique pieces to inspire future projects. Your work will be glazed and kiln-fired for you, ready for collection approximately three to four weeks later. Suitable for all levels, this workshop encourages an open-ended approach to making while helping you build confidence with decorative ceramic techniques. Cost This course costs 125 per person.
