Shakatak

28 Jul 2025 - 11 Apr 2026

After a number of successful top-twenty singles in the UK, the band went on to score unprecedented international success with the release of the classic ‘Nightbirds” recording and the title track has now become a standard in the popular music repertoire. This success was repeated with the top-ten hit “Down on the Street and the award-winning video established the band’s personnel of Jill Saward(lead vocs), Bill Sharpe(keys),Keith Winter(gtr), George Anderson(bass) and Roger Odell(drums). With the magic Al Jarreau/Shakatak combination, the group went on to record the track ‘Day by Day’ to further international acclaim. Along with this successful recording career, Shakatak had firmly established themselves as a vibrant live act, combining astute musicianship with a sense of fun that communicated strongly with world-wide audiences. Their performance in Japan’s Budoken Hall won them a Silver Award at the Tokyo International Song Festival-other awards include the “Best Instrumental Album’ for 6 consecutive years-and other live concerts of note have been the East meets the West Border Concert at the time of German re-unificationin 1989 and the open air concert in Cape Town for the Millennium Celebrations 2000 where they played in front of 250,000 people.Shakatak have enjoyed a level of success and career longevity rarely paralleled in contemporary music – but then Shakatak is a particularly unusual group. Because of the nature of their music, their fan base is one that is far reaching while always retaining an ‘underground element’. This paradox sees the band, who are known primarily as serious jazz/funk musicians, enjoying both high ‘cult’ status and instant recognition as a household name.

Hue & Cry

Hue & Cry

18 Sept 2025 - 24 Oct 2025

“They’ve lasted because they are brilliant” Radio 2 Brothers Patrick and Gregory Kane formed Hue and Cry in the ’80s and the duo made a huge impact with the release of their debut album Seduced and Abandoned (1987) which featured their first top ten single Labour of Love. The follow up album Remote continued the trend and produced the huge hits Looking for Linda and Violently. Albums like Stars Crash Down, Showtime and Jazz Not Jazz ensured Hue and Cry’s continued successful run through the ’90s, whilst their 2005 appearances as finalists on ITV’s primetime show Hit Me Baby One More Time, featuring their version of Beyonce’s Crazy In Love, thrust the band firmly back into the mainstream limelight. A number of successful album releases and accompanying live appearances followed which included Open Soul (2008), Xmasday (2009), Bitter Suite Again (2010), Hot Wire (2012), Remote: Major to Minor (2014), September Songs (2015), Pocketful of Stones (2017). To date Hue and Cry have sold in excess of two million records worldwide. In 2019, Hue and Cry sold out their Summer Nights at the Bandstand show at Glasgow’s Kelvingrove park within forty-eight hours and finished the year by playing live all over the UK. With the global pandemic bringing live touring to a halt during 2020/21, Hue and Cry introduced their pioneering Live from Lockdown streaming shows which were broadcast live from the band’s Glasgow based studio and viewed online by thousands of fans around the world. A collection of their favourite tracks from these shows was released as a Best of Lockdown album (2022). Hue and Cry have sold tens of thousands of concert tickets worldwide. As well as performing alongside some of the greatest artists in music history – appearing with U2, James Brown, Madonna, Al Green and Van Morrison to name but a few – the band have undertaken a multitude of their own headline tours and made numerous festival appearances. Hue and Cry were recognised by their peers when they were recently presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Scottish Music Awards. The band are currently working on a brand new album and have made a welcome return to performing in front of audiences.
Heatwave

Heatwave

25 Jul 2025 - 24 Oct 2025

Formed in London, UK, Heatwave are a funk/disco group who came into international success in the mid-70s and 80s, known for the hits, Boogie Nights, Always and Forever and The Groove Line. The band came together initially when two American serviceman brothers, Jennie Wilder and Keith Wilder, who were based in Germany, began performing together. After they were discharged, they moved to London, UK in 1975 to team up with songwriter/keyboardist Rod Temperton. They then fleshed out the lineup with Spaniard Mario Mantese (bass), Czechoslovakian Ernest Berger (drums) and Americans Jesse Whitens (guitar) and Eric Johns (guitar). With the multicultural nature of the group, they managed to create an eclectic sound that pushed their music well ahead of their peers, becoming pioneers in their genre. After touring the London club circuit, they gained the attention of GTO Records, with their simple disco beats and heavy funk grooves. They began recording their debut album but the tragic murder of Jesse Whitens set them back. However, finding a replacement in Roy Carter, they began recording again, releasing a string of singles culminating in the hit disco anthem, 1977's Boogie Nights. The song hit number two in the UK charts and also became a top five hit in America. Their debut album appeared later that year, titled Too Hot to Handle, peaking at number five in the R&B charts. By the end of the year, they had also gained a number two hit in the US with their soul ballad, Always and Forever. Success followed them into their next album, Central Heating, in 1978, featuring the hit, The Groove Line, which scaled the top of the charts. However, lineup instability followed shortly after, with both Johns and Temperton leaving the band. Further tragedy hit after Mantese was stabbed by his girlfriend and was left paralysed, forcing his retirement. In 1979, Heatwave had recuperated to record their third album, Hot Property, which despite its strong collection of songs, failed to make much of an impression in the charts. Please note, although Heatwave is still touring and performing the hits, the band no longer features the original members. Geno Washington & The Yo Yo's

Geno Washington & The Yo Yo's

4 Jul 2025 - 4 Jul 2025

There's only one Geno. From tearing up the floor at Soho's Flamingo Club to being name-checked in a Dexys Midnight Runners chart-topper, Geno Washington is woven deep into the fabric of British soul history - an American GI whose voice and energy set 1960s London alight. Born in Evansville, Indiana, Geno landed in the UK with the swagger of the blues and the heartbeat of R&B pulsing through his veins. In no time, he was sharing stages with Georgie Fame, Zoot Money and a host of now-legendary names, lighting up packed-out nights with his irrepressible vocals and magnetic presence. With the mighty Ram Jam Band, Geno would go on to sell out venues across the country and chart two albums, Hand Clappin, Foot Stompin, Funky-Butt Live! and Hipster Flipsters Finger Poppin Daddies, both storming into the UK Top 10. Fast forward to today and Geno is still firing on all cylinders. Backed by The Yo Yo's, featuring original Ram Jam legends Geoff Hemsley, Steve Bingham and Greg Lester, this band means business. Think gritty Memphis grooves, high-octane Stax soul and bluesy grit with a wicked sense of swing. Their live shows are a joyride through the golden years of soul and R&B, with Geno's vocals sharper than ever and the band tighter than a snare drum. His latest release, It's Geno Time (recorded live at The Half Moon), proves he's still a master of his craft a fact that hasnt gone unnoticed by BBC Radio, Mojo and a legion of fans who refuse to let him off the stage. Celebrate US Independence Day the only way that makes sense - with the electrifying sound of one of soul music's true originals, in full flight, surrounded by good food, strong drinks and even stronger grooves. Geno's still got it. He never lost it. Visit our Hine Bar and Heated Garden Terrace located on the 1st floor for pre & post-show drinks! Geno Washington, Greg Lester

Geno Washington, Greg Lester

4 Jul 2025 - 4 Jul 2025

Geno originates from Evansville in Indiana, USA and first came to England in the 1960's as part of the US Air Force. His love of Blues and Soul music soon found him jamming with local bands in and around Ipswich and eventually led him to London where he caused a sensation singing with top R&B acts Georgie Fame and the Blue Flames and Zoot Money's Big Roll Band at the legendary Flamingo Club in Soho. The rest, as they say, is history. Geno teamed up with some of London's hottest musicians and Geno Washington and the Ram Jam Band very quickly became established as the most exciting live band in Britain, regularly topping the bill over World famous artistes, as nobody in their right mind wanted to go on stage after a Geno show! His live shows were immortalised in two of the biggest selling albums of the 60's - "Hand Clappin' Foot Stompin' Funky Butt Live" and "Hipsters Flipsters and Finger Poppin' Daddies". His status as the undisputed "King of Soul" was cemented forever by Kevin Rowland and Dexy's Midnight Runners in the 1980's with the World-wide No.1 smash hit single "Geno", which paid homage to the great man himself and is still played regularly today on national radio and at Geno's live gigs both before and after shows. Throughout the years Geno and his band have continued to tour extensively all over the World and have released several highly acclaimed albums and singles. His latest live double album simply entitled "It's Geno Time", recorded at the legendary Half Moon in Putney, is widely regarded as his best work to date: you only have to listen to the audience reaction to know that Geno has lost none of his magic as he and the band deliver a blistering set of Soul classics to a wild crowd who wouldn't let them off stage! Geno's life long love of Blues and R&B has led to yet another chapter in his illustrious career with the formation of "Geno and the Yo Yo's which features the long standing rhythm section of the Ram Jam Band (Geoff Hemsley on drums, Steve Bingham on bass and Stuart Dixon on guitar) which is a hard- hitting, fast-moving show of R&B / Blues / Soul classics that has audiences on their feet from start to finish and is receiving rave reviews wherever they play. Whether it's Geno Washington and the Ram Jam Band or Geno Washington and the Yo Yo's you can be sure of one thing and that is a barnstorming live show that never lets up in intensity or excitement and delivers the goods every time!
