“They’ve lasted because they are brilliant” Radio 2 Brothers Patrick and Gregory Kane formed Hue and Cry in the ’80s and the duo made a huge impact with the release of their debut album Seduced and Abandoned (1987) which featured their first top ten single Labour of Love. The follow up album Remote continued the trend and produced the huge hits Looking for Linda and Violently. Albums like Stars Crash Down, Showtime and Jazz Not Jazz ensured Hue and Cry’s continued successful run through the ’90s, whilst their 2005 appearances as finalists on ITV’s primetime show Hit Me Baby One More Time, featuring their version of Beyonce’s Crazy In Love, thrust the band firmly back into the mainstream limelight. A number of successful album releases and accompanying live appearances followed which included Open Soul (2008), Xmasday (2009), Bitter Suite Again (2010), Hot Wire (2012), Remote: Major to Minor (2014), September Songs (2015), Pocketful of Stones (2017). To date Hue and Cry have sold in excess of two million records worldwide. In 2019, Hue and Cry sold out their Summer Nights at the Bandstand show at Glasgow’s Kelvingrove park within forty-eight hours and finished the year by playing live all over the UK. With the global pandemic bringing live touring to a halt during 2020/21, Hue and Cry introduced their pioneering Live from Lockdown streaming shows which were broadcast live from the band’s Glasgow based studio and viewed online by thousands of fans around the world. A collection of their favourite tracks from these shows was released as a Best of Lockdown album (2022). Hue and Cry have sold tens of thousands of concert tickets worldwide. As well as performing alongside some of the greatest artists in music history – appearing with U2, James Brown, Madonna, Al Green and Van Morrison to name but a few – the band have undertaken a multitude of their own headline tours and made numerous festival appearances. Hue and Cry were recognised by their peers when they were recently presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Scottish Music Awards. The band are currently working on a brand new album and have made a welcome return to performing in front of audiences.

Formed in London, UK, Heatwave are a funk/disco group who came into international success in the mid-70s and 80s, known for the hits, Boogie Nights, Always and Forever and The Groove Line. The band came together initially when two American serviceman brothers, Jennie Wilder and Keith Wilder, who were based in Germany, began performing together. After they were discharged, they moved to London, UK in 1975 to team up with songwriter/keyboardist Rod Temperton. They then fleshed out the lineup with Spaniard Mario Mantese (bass), Czechoslovakian Ernest Berger (drums) and Americans Jesse Whitens (guitar) and Eric Johns (guitar). With the multicultural nature of the group, they managed to create an eclectic sound that pushed their music well ahead of their peers, becoming pioneers in their genre. After touring the London club circuit, they gained the attention of GTO Records, with their simple disco beats and heavy funk grooves. They began recording their debut album but the tragic murder of Jesse Whitens set them back. However, finding a replacement in Roy Carter, they began recording again, releasing a string of singles culminating in the hit disco anthem, 1977's Boogie Nights. The song hit number two in the UK charts and also became a top five hit in America. Their debut album appeared later that year, titled Too Hot to Handle, peaking at number five in the R&B charts. By the end of the year, they had also gained a number two hit in the US with their soul ballad, Always and Forever. Success followed them into their next album, Central Heating, in 1978, featuring the hit, The Groove Line, which scaled the top of the charts. However, lineup instability followed shortly after, with both Johns and Temperton leaving the band. Further tragedy hit after Mantese was stabbed by his girlfriend and was left paralysed, forcing his retirement. In 1979, Heatwave had recuperated to record their third album, Hot Property, which despite its strong collection of songs, failed to make much of an impression in the charts. Please note, although Heatwave is still touring and performing the hits, the band no longer features the original members. Hilary Mwelwa aka Hil St. Soul was born in Lusaka, Zambia and relocated to London with her family at age five. As a child she adopted her father’s love of music, as their home was immersed with the sounds of traditional Zambian music along with American R&B/Soul icons such as Aretha Franklin, Marvin Gaye and Stevie Wonder. Her 1999 debut album "Soul Organic" received widespread acclaim and featured a cover of Aretha Franklin's Until you Come Back to me which has been playlisted on Jazz FM and Soul and Smooth Jazz Radio Stations all over the world for over 17 years. This was followed in 2002 with Copasetik & Cool which included her hit version of The Isley Brothers evergreen classic For the Love of You. Mica Paris MBE is one of the UK’s finest and most respected singers with a long career of hit singles and albums marking her out as a jewel of the UKs long history of R&B and Soul. Her album Gospel was released on Warner to critical acclaim and #1 in the UK R&B Album charts. The album features an original song “The Struggle”, telling the story of Mica’s meeting with Gladys Knight, as well as spellbinding versions of Rag ‘N’ Bone Man’s “Human”; John Newton’s hymn “Amazing Grace”; Foreigner’s “I Want To Know What Love Is”; and U2’s “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For”. Mica was awarded an MBE in the 2020 Birthday Honours for services to music, entertainment and charity.

Legendary singer Tony Christie has found international fame with hits like I Did What I Did For Maria, Walk Like A Panther, Las Vegas and of course the number one single (Is This The Way To) Amarillo. Tony’s Irish roots (his grandmother and grandfather played in a ceilidh band) are celebrated on the album The Great Irish Songbook that came out in 2015. Collaborating with crossover folk band Ranagri, Tony produced a stunning set of traditional songs. Following on from the success of The Great Irish Songbook, Tony Christie and Ranagri have recorded a second album together, The Great Irish Songbook Vol II. In celebration of this they will be doing a short tour together in November and December at a number of venues from Glasgow to Southampton. Ranagri are Eliza Marshall, Donal Rogers, Eleanor Dunsdon and Jordan Murray, and are already well known and much loved to audiences in Greater Manchester. We are really pleased to be one of the few venues selected to host this short joint tour.
