The story of the Womens Land Army who stepped in during the War to fill the void left by men who had been conscripted into the Army. Between 1939 and 1950 over 200,000 Land Girls worked the farms of Britain keeping the country fed. Expecting sunny days in the fresh air happily tossing hay, they were rudely awakened to the realities of life on the land, but there they were and they got on with the job. The Lions Part Company researched hundreds of letters and interviewed many of the surviving women and the stories of thousands have been encapsulated into the four represented in this play: Margie, Peggy, Poppy and Vera, who give an insight into their experiences, so very different from their pre-war lives.
