The List

Bowhouse

Bowhouse replaces a missing link in the local food chain. It connects small growers and producers with restaurants and shoppers, giving everyone better access to the best ingredients and finished produce that the East Neuk has to offer. We also run regular Food Weekends in Bowhouse’s large covered Marketplace. We invite the best local growers, producers, makers and street food vendors to join us as we open our doors to a hungry East Neuk public from 10am till 4pm on a Saturday and Sunday once a month. As well as that we host other food related events in the spaces we have at Bowhouse. Bowhouse has become a permanent home to a small number of local food and drink businesses who all share a common approach and ethos in the way they produce. These are people who care deeply about what they do and who relish the opportunity to interact with their customers.

Grass to Grill Estate Tours

Grass to Grill Estate Tours

6 Jun 2025 - 6 Sept 2025

The Grass to Grill tours are designed to explain Balcaskie Estate’s progress with regenerative farming methods in an immersive and interactive way. The safari-trailer will transport you around the beautiful landscape of the East Neuk to visit different points of interest including our livestock, crops, woodland and wildlife habitats. Introducing each topic will be the land workers and farmers who put their heart and soul into producing food and caring for the natural environment. When we return to Bowhouse, you will be introduced to the Butchery team, to show the care and expertise that our sustainable, grass-reared meat receives. All guests will then gather together for a relaxed, long-table feast which will include local, seasonal produce from the Estate – including meat from our Butchery, veg from East Neuk Market Garden and flatbreads from Baern Bakery. There is some walking on rough terrain expected as part of the tour experience. Please get in touch if you have any issues with accessibility prior to booking tickets. It is essential you let us know of any food allergies or requirements when booking.

Zulu Voyage

Zulu Voyage

28 Jun 2025 - 28 Jun 2025

This year's East Neuk Festival commission is a promenade piece by harpist and composer Esther Swift who has been working with Fife musicians of all ages from St Andrews Music Project, Fife Youth Jazz Orchestra, and East Fife Community Ensemble. Zulu Voyage tells the story of the Zulu fishing boats and their journeys along our coasts through music and sounds, matched by visuals created by artist Esme McIntyre. The Zulu fishing boats were invented around the time of the Zulu wars and enjoyed half a century of dominance before war and petrol brought about their demise. Today their carcasses can be seen abandoned and rotting on beaches up the East Coast of Scotland.
