Manon Mullener Trio: Modern Jazz / Latin Flair
Swiss pianist Manon Mullener, described as “the future of Swiss jazz” (Le Temps) and a “rising star of European jazz” (France Musique), brings her electrifying trio to Toulouse Lautrec for an evening of modern jazz infused with Cuban and Latin colours. Her new album Stories, recorded in New York, is built around real-life encounters from her travels around the world. Each piece paints a vivid portrait: Zoila, a 95-year-old Cuban grandmother recalling her 1950s Havana perfumery; Noh, a Mexican cab driver devoted to Mayan traditions; and Willard, an opera lover from uptown New York. Performed live, these musical tales take on fresh energy and emotional depth, “immediate energy and effectiveness,” says Jazz Magazine. The London Django Collective are a dynamic group of London-based jazz musicians and passionate custodians of the musical legacy left behind by the legendary guitarist Django Reinhardt. Highly regarded improvisers in their own right, each member of the collective brings a distinct voice to the music, carefully brushing the dust off classic repertoire while weaving in fresh, original compositions. Every performance is an exhilarating improvisational showcase: a meeting point between tradition and forward-thinking creativity, and a testing ground for brand-new material. Co-founded by violinist Matt Holborn and guitarist Harry Diplock, the London Django Collective was established in 2019 with the aim of bringing together some of the city’s finest players to cultivate a bold, contemporary gypsy jazz sound.
