Horatio, In Thy Heart

Horatio, In Thy Heart

14 Jul 2026 - 18 Jul 2026

by Merlin Stevens directed by Arden Fitzroy presented by Achy Bits Productions One of the first things you learn about me is that I do not believe in ghosts. Scrawled in the margins of Shakespeares play, Horatio draws his breath in laughter and pain to tell the story of someone jangled out of tune himself. Horatio has followed his situationship home for Christmas break. The fact that the young man in question is heir to the throne of Denmark, and the son of a murdered warlord, soon proves to be the least of his worries. Horatio loves people deeply and hes starting to suspect that the person he loves most may be more dangerous than plague, Nordic winter, or plot devices. But when it comes to ghostly affairs, Horatio may have a secret or two up his sleeve as well. A blast of fresh air for the world of Shakespeares Hamlet, Horatio, In Thy Heartis a new play about the courage of setting boundaries and the complexity of mourning people who were bad for you. Award-winning production company Achy Bits Productions continues its tradition of revelling in the queer shadow play behind the scrim of classic texts. Portrait of a Tom as a Young Neenan

Portrait of a Tom as a Young Neenan

9 Jul 2026 - 11 Jul 2026

written and performed by Tom Neenan In 2024, writer, actor and semi professional painter Tom Neenan received an invitation to paint the portrait of an 86 year old man. But what promised to be a simple commission turns into an often hilarious and occasionally excruciating exploration of past failures, artistic missteps and current worries, ranging from body image to AI. A comedy storytelling show about art, people and how people represent themselves through art, but somehow not as pretentious as that sounds. Tom Neenan is a BAFTA and Writers Guild nominated writer, actor and comedian. Oh and painter. He was head writer of BBC Twos hit comedy The Mash Report as well as a writer for Prince Andrew The Musical and Skys Silo. Alex Pearson Productions, in association with Glass Splinters, is thrilled to be bringing a fresh take on this classic tale of love, violence, and what it means to live a life under the spotlight. Orwell The Road To 1984 By Guy Smith

6 Oct 2026 - 10 Oct 2026

with additional material by Mark Stratford directed by Guy Smith presented by Stratford Productions ORWELL: The Road to 1984 tells the fascinating story of one of the greatest writers of the twentieth century and the extraordinary personal experiences that inspired his classic tales Animal Farm and Nineteen Eighty-Four. It is a timely portrait of a writer whose words remain a warning and a hope. George Orwell is perhaps the most influential English writer of the twentieth century. His classic tales Animal Farm and Nineteen Eighty-Four which warn of the dangers of totalitarianism erosion of free speech, abuse of power, increasing control of all aspects of our everyday lives resonate now more than ever. Orwells dystopian concepts such as Big Brother is watching you, Room 101 and thoughtcrime have become everyday phrases. But where did his vision of the future come from? In this powerful and moving play, Mark Stratford takes you on a fascinating journey through the extraordinary experiences that shaped the work of this perceptive and compelling writer. In Orwells words, we travel through many of the remarkable episodes in his life including his time at a grim boarding school, being a police officer in colonial Burma, his adventures tramping through England to live among the poor and underprivileged, and his extraordinarily close shave with death in the Spanish Civil War. When I sit down to write a book, I do not say to myself, I am going to produce a work of art. I write it because there is some lie I want to expose. George Orwell In this age of misinformation, political extremism and digital surveillance, ORWELL: The Road to 1984 is a play for our time. Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoevsky
adapted and directed by Jack Jacobs presented by Off By Heart I needed to know that I was not a louse. Rocks piled high. A staircase. A man with a theory and an axe. Raskolnikov is a student living on nothing, in a room barely wider than his arms, in a city that never goes quiet. He has a theory. He believes some people are extraordinary, and the rules do not apply to them. To test his belief, he picks up an axe. Sonya, a girl with her own reasons for shame, refuses to look away from him. Porfiry, an investigator who never raises his voice, begins to circle. The city presses in. The theory begins to crack. What follows is not just a manhunt but a reckoning. Dostoevskys restless novel is reimagined as a thrilling chamber piece in an intimate study of the theories we use to excuse cruelty, and the quiet work of being found out.
