Manford's Comedy Club

Manford's Comedy Club

9 May 2025 - 12 Dec 2025

A message from Jason Manford. Hello there, Jason here, thanks for stopping by. I've been wondering for while now, why is local stand up comedy not high up on the list of what people think about doing when looking for a great night out. So where do we go? The local pub for a few drinks? Cinema? Maybe a meal with a loved one or a cheeky midweek quiz with some mates. Some people still go out clubbing at one of those city centre discotheques! (shudders). Even ten-pin bowling is considered higher up than comedy! How can that be? How can throwing a massive rock at ten wooden things be more fun than sitting in a dark room with your friends or partner, drink in hand, watching someone funny tell jokes that make you all laugh from your belly for hours and hours and give you something to talk about all the next day? Well let me tell you this: There is a circuit of brilliant comics in this country who thrive in the live arena and want to make you laugh on a regular basis, so I'm going to tell you who they are. My plan is this: I'm going to carefully select some of my favourite comedians from the circuit and send them to a town near you. Simple! Keep on laughing folks, and remember, there's nothing like live!

Goldie Lookin' Chain

2 May 2025 - 20 Dec 2025

Coming straight out of Newport The GLC are officially Britain’s biggest rap group. Known for classics like “Guns don’t kill people rappers do”, The GLC started almost by accident around the turn of the century with Eggsy’s impromptu rap about his tracksuit over a serious piece of music Rhys was working on in the studio. Adam Hussain, Billy Webb, Mystkal, the Maggot, 2hats and Mike Balls convinced Rhys to record the rap. Fuelled by Lambrini, fags, Chicken Tikka Massala and weed they all took to the mic and The GLC’s first album “Don’t Blame the Chain” was born. And so it began, the journey which has so far seen The GLC rise to the top of the charts, perform around the world and at every major festival in the Western Hemisphere and make millions of people laugh along the way. Now many years since that first rap about Eggsy’s tracksuit, the boys are still keeping it real in the rap game and hold the title of the most successful UK rap act ever. To date The GLC have released 18 albums… and amazingly none of them have died yet. You knows it! GLC (Live) plus special guests

Reflecting The World Around Us with Reshma Ruia
We are all made up of stories. Some we have lived through, some we dream about, some are pure flights of imagination. In this creative writing workshop you will have a chance to set these stories free. We will be demystifying the process of writing a poem or a short piece of flash fiction and letting our ideas flow. Writing can be a form of therapy, comfort, anger and clarity. Instead of bottling up all those emotions inside of you, you are releasing them onto paper. And that can only be a good thing. You will get plenty of time to write. Along the way Reshma will give you tips on what to look out for, how to improve. About Reshma Ruia Reshma has written two novels, Something Black in the Lentil Soup, and Still Lives, winner of the 2023 Diverse Book Readers Choice Award and longlisted for the 2023 Peoples Book Award. She has also published a poetry collection, A Dinner Party in the Home Counties, winner of the 2019 Word Masala Award and a short story collection, Mrs Pinto Drives to Happiness, shortlisted for the 2022 Eastern Eye ACTA Award. Her work has appeared in anthologies and journals both national and international, and commissioned by the BBC, University of Cumbria and Manchester Literature Festival. write That Novel Now with Gareth Wood

17 May 2025 - 17 May 2025

This session is aimed at all aspiring writers, at all phases of the process, from planning the book they want to write, to already being underway. Discussing models and structures of creating a narrative, Gareth hopes to provide those in attendance with ways to plan their writing, to find a process which works best for them and enables the completion of the projects they have in mind. Especially focussed on genre fiction (horror, fantasy and science fiction), but applicable to all types of writing, Gareth will talk though his processes, with discussion on narrative frameworks, the multiple drafts of a novel, editing and preparing the work for submissions to agents and publishers and, importantly, how writing a book can be balanced with competing responsibilities. About the Author Gareth Wood is a Birmingham-born writer of horror and fantasy novels, his most recent book, 'At Night, White Bracken', was published by Stairwell Books in November 2024. Seeking to create genre fiction with a distinctly working-class voice, Gareth's novels feature characters, perspectives and situations faithful to his own background, and to those people and places who have and continue to influence his writing.
