Bound together by lifelong friendship and shared experience for more than 25 years, the Fisherman’s Friends have met on the Platt (harbour) in their native Port Isaac to raise money for charity, singing the traditional songs of the sea handed down to them by their forefathers. In 2010 they signed a major record deal and their album Port Isaac’s Fisherman’s Friends went gold as they became the first traditional folk act to land a UK top ten album. Since then they’ve been the subject of an ITV documentary, released the hit albums One and All and Proper Job and played to hundreds of thousands of fans at home and abroad. The Fisherman’s Friends have been widely credited with starting the revival of interest in shanty-style choral singing but a cornerstone of their success has been their constantly evolving and expanding repertoire.

Beethoven's Pastoral with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra
Following the sell-out success of Beethoven’s Fifths, the world-famous Royal Philharmonic Orchestra performs another all-Beethoven programme, this time finding the composer in a more romantic frame of mind. Written during Beethoven’s infatuation with his ‘Immortal Beloved’, the Fourth Piano Concerto flouts convention at virtually every turn. Tender and lyrical, it culminates in a jubilant finale that seems to suggest the composer, endlessly unlucky in matters of the heart, has discovered the joy of life itself. The ‘Pastoral’ Symphony is his love letter to the spirit of nature. Again, wearing his heart on his sleeve, Beethoven fills five highly melodic movements with characteristic touches, a profusion of contrasting ideas following one after another. The movements all bear unambiguously bucolic titles and are (mostly) unashamedly sunny. Opening with the heroic Egmont Overture, this concert is the second in a series of two Sunday afternoon concerts with the RPO.

Rpo: Makoto Ozone Plays Gershwin

Rpo: Makoto Ozone Plays Gershwin

27 May 2026 - 27 May 2026

A clarinet soars upwards – and immediately, you can picture the skyscrapers of jazz-age Manhattan. There’s nothing quite like Rhapsody in Blue, and few living pianists play Gershwin with more flair than our soloist today, Japanese jazz legend Makoto Ozone. And with RPO Conductor-in-Residence Kevin John Edusei is conducting, there are endless pictures to be painted and stories to be told. High in the mountains of Transylvania, György Ligeti hears a shepherd blow his horn, and gypsy fiddles flash around the campfire. And far from his Hungarian homeland, composed in the USA, Béla Bartók’s Concerto for Orchestra sets out to put a great orchestra through its paces and ends up by punching the air with glee. This is music that loves life – and believe us, you can feel it. “…unfailingly inventive and entertaining.” The Scotsman on Makoto Ozone This concert is generously supported by Calderwood.
Rpo: Rachmaninov's Symphony No.1

Rpo: Rachmaninov's Symphony No.1

31 Mar 2026 - 31 Mar 2026

At the age of 22, Rachmaninov had his heart broken. He poured all his ambition and all his emotion into the epic score of his First Symphony, which goes off like a volcano – wild, passionate and positively brimming with inspiration. For many years it was lost, but today conductor Nil Venditti gives this youthful tour de force its due. The Northampton-born composer Edmund Rubbra, meanwhile, was one of the most admired names in post-war British music, but today his radiant Piano Concerto – inspired by the flowers and moods of the English countryside – is a real rarity. Pianist Mark Bebbington has made it his mission to rediscover Britain’s lost masterworks, and this one’s a jewel. You might be about to discover your new favourite piece. “Venditti’s facility for phrasing and for highlighting detail was to the fore, teasing from the orchestra a warm sound and a bright demeanour.” Bachtrack
Rpo: Sir John Rutter Conducts Reflections
He’s too modest to admit it, but Sir John Rutter might just be the world’s best-loved living classical composer. Millions have sung his music, millions more have been touched by it: fresh, sincere and written with genuine love, it’s part of all our lives. For the RPO, any chance to work with Sir John is a special occasion, and tonight’s concert is no exception as he conducts the UK premiere of Reflections, a brand new piano concerto which will be performed by British pianist Steven Osborne. That’s the highlight of a concert that features two of Sir John’s favourite American classics – pure uplift – and another, very special treat, as he conducts RPO principal oboe John Roberts in a delightful solo showpiece. Experience musical history in the making. “Tremendous… from first note to last.” The Guardian on Steven Osborne Generously supported by The 1916 Foundation in Montchanin, Delaware.
Rpo: Tchaikovsky's Symphony No.5

Rpo: Tchaikovsky's Symphony No.5

10 Jun 2026 - 10 Jun 2026

Tchaikovsky never held back. He asked for his Fifth Symphony to be performed con desiderio e passione – with desire and passion – and when guest conductor Cornelius Meister joins the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra at Cadogan Hall we can promise exactly that. With its heartfelt melodies and blazing colours, we love playing Tchaikovsky’s Fifth as much as you love hearing it, and there’s no more stirring way to finish a season packed with music at its most uninhibited. But that’s not all: the evening opens with a delightful new miniature from Composer-in-Association Joe Hisaishi (Spirited Away). And Clara-Jumi Kang brings all her world-class insight to Britten’s powerful Violin Concerto, written on the eve of World War II. Strong emotions, stunningly played. “The Britten… had a dazzling performer in Clara-Jumi Kang: dedicated, highly expressive and varied.” Bachtrack
The Glenn Miller Orchestra

The Glenn Miller Orchestra

25 Apr 2026 - 13 Sept 2026

The Glenn Miller Orchestra features the same stage line-up as Glenn Miller’s original big band, and has been playing his legendary music for years. They’re joined by jazz vocalists Catherine Sykes and Mark Porter for a festive forties celebration sure to get your feet a-tappin’.
Zios National Symphony Orchestra Of Ukraine
Beethoven didn’t have much time for tyrants. “If I understood war as well as I understand music, I would conquer him” was his verdict when Napoleon invaded Austria – and judging from the daring, the charisma and the sheer, elemental force of his ‘Eroica’ (Heroic) Symphony, he might have had a point. The commitment and skill of Ukrainian musicians always receives a warm welcome here at Cadogan Hall, and tonight, one of Ukraine’s most-admired pianists takes the spotlight in the majestic ‘Emperor’ Concerto – music of unbreakable grandeur and defiance, and the perfect complement to the ‘Eroica’. An 18th-century Ukrainian classic makes a delightful opening to an evening of music-making at its most committed. “Conducting without a baton but with vivid gestures, generated a white heat of energy.” The Times on Volodymyr Sirenko IMG Artists are raising £5k to support the National Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine, its members and their families during the continuing conflict in Ukraine, in their time of need. All donations, however small or large, will be gratefully received. Find out more & donate The Justgiving appeal will remain open until 1 May 2026 when all proceeds will be donated directly to the Orchestra to support its work.
ZIOS Spanish Galicia Symphony Orchestra
A rhythm, a flute, and a melody you’ll never forget… it’s hard to say what exactly makes Ravel’s Boléro so irresistible. But this French composer had Spanish blood, and tonight’s concert is filled with the sunshine, the fragrance and the pure, intoxicating passion of Spain at its most seductive. Wild, whirling dances from Falla and Turina, delicate fairy tales from Ravel – it’s a fiesta in sound, even before Boléro strikes up that unstoppable beat. But we couldn’t spend a night in Spain without hearing the classical guitar, and tonight the Coruña-based Spanish Galicia Symphony Orchestra is joined by dazzling young French guitarist Thibaut Garcia in that most Spanish of all guitar concertos: Rodrigo’s haunting and much-loved Concierto de Aranjuez. “Such a combination of virtuosity, intelligence, character and flair.” Gramophone on Thibaut Garcia
Zios Warsaw Philharmonic

Zios Warsaw Philharmonic

19 May 2026 - 19 May 2026

Tchaikovsky never did anything by halves, and he poured all his heartache, his sorrow and his matchless gift for melody into a final symphony like no other. Don’t be misled by the name: ‘Pathétique’ means ‘full of feelings’ and when Krzysztof Urbański conducts the Warsaw Philharmonic, that’s exactly what they’ll bring – as well as glowing colours and some of the greatest tunes even Tchaikovsky ever composed. These superb Polish musicians are always a big hit at Cadogan Hall; tonight they share a lost masterpiece by the postwar Polish composer Grażyna Bacewicz and join pianist Alexandra Dariescu in the teenage Chopin’s Second Piano Concerto – true romance, played with love. Hear it, and feel your heart melt.

When Sir James MacMillan writes a new choral work, the world takes notice because few living composers write with more honesty and passion. With a span of around an hour, Angels Unawares is a major new statement from MacMillan coupled with a brilliant libretto written by Robert Willis, former Dean of Canterbury Cathedral, completed shortly before his untimely death in autumn 2024. Who better to give the work’s UK premiere than The Sixteen and the Britten Sinfonia, both tireless champions of MacMillan’s work? Angels Unawares is commissioned and supported by the Genesis Foundation for Harry Christophers and The Sixteen.

Ronald Brautigam is one of very few pianists to perform at the highest level on both modern and period instruments. A student of the legendary Rudolf Serkin, he has recorded all of Mozart’s concertos and sonatas, as well as those by Haydn and Beethoven. “What is consistently compelling about these performances is the way Brautigam and his instrument allow us to look under the bonnet of the music.” Gramophone 6.15pm: Pre-concert talk Conductor Ian Page discusses the evening’s repertoire (in the auditorium, free to ticket holders)

Paris After Dark: Cabaret Songs And Jazz From The 1930S To The 1950S
The Jazz Repertory Company presents a billet-doux à nos amis with its tribute to Edith Piaf, Josephine Baker and the joyous jazz of Stéphane Grappelli and Django Reinhardt’s Quintette du Hot Club de France. Susan Black not only sounds like Piaf but looks like her too, and she’ll be recreating some of the greatest songs of Piaf’s extraordinary career – ‘Non, Je ne regrette rien’, ‘Milord’, ‘La foule’, ‘L’accordéoniste’, ‘Padam, Padam’ and her signature song, ‘La vie en rose’. The American singer and dancer Josephine Baker came to fame in 1920s Paris, where she was known as the ‘Black Pearl’, the ‘Bronze Venus’ and the ‘Creole Goddess’. Nicolle Rochelle performed the lead role in Looking for Josephine during its two-year run, playing to capacity crowds at the Opéra-Comique in Paris. The music of Django Reinhardt and Stephan Grappelli is recreated by The Hot Club de Londres, a quintet featuring violinist Mike Piggott in the role of Grappelli and Nils Solberg, the leading UK specialist in Django-style guitar. The music they create is a charming blend of swing and beautifully melodic soloing that encapsulates Parisian 1930s’ sophistication and elegance.

Alternately explosive and calm, the work features a famous battle between the orchestra and a snare drummer, who is instructed to improvise “as though determined at all costs to stop the progress of the orchestra”. KSO is joined by former BBC Young Musician keyboard finalist Firoze Madon for Grieg’s much-loved Piano Concerto (1868), written when the composer was just 24. A lyrical Andante is bookended by a dramatic Allegro and an energetic Finale, both featuring motifs influenced by Norwegian folk music. The concert opens with Boris Blacher’s virtuosic Orchestral Variations on a Theme by N. Paganini (1947), which brought the composer international renown after his work was deemed “degenerate” during the Second World War.

Jean-Philippe Rio-Py, known to the world as RIOPY, is a pianist and multi-instrumentalist composer with over a billion streams, sold-out concerts across continents, collaborations with the likes of Lana Del Rey, and a catalogue of albums that have topped the classical charts. But beneath the numbers lies something far more human: a story of resilience, survival, and a man who has discovered sound as a vessel for healing. 2026 marks the release of RIOPY’s fifth album Be Love - an appeal born out of the artist’s awe-inspiring journey of rediscovery and defiance, and a refusal to let fear or illness silence him. “It’s called Be Love because that’s the only thing that matters. Be love. And if we all love, then everything is fine,” he says simply. Be Love will see RIOPY sing for the very first time on a release. The composer-instrumentalist has utilised numerous ways to produce sound, just never his own voice. “I had this compulsion, this need to use my voice, because I think it’s one of the biggest fears I’ve had through my life. But it’s something I really enjoy doing.” He shares, “I started just whispering... it’s not a new me, it’s just an expansion of what I do. It felt right, because I needed to do this.” Presented by Serious. 5+. Under 16s must be accompanied by an adult.

National Symphony Orchestra: Vaughan Williams, Mendelssohn And Elgar
Serving as the grand finale of the National Symphony Orchestra’s 2026 season, the performance is led by esteemed conductor Rimma Sushanskaya and features acclaimed violinist Mathilde Milwidsky as the evening’s soloist. It seems fitting that on this Remembrance Sunday, 2026, the National Symphony Orchestra’s concert series at the Cadogan Hall should conclude with a great English work intimately connected with this annual act of memorial, when those who laid down their lives in service for this country are remembered. Nimrod, the ninth of the 14 variations which comprise Sir Edward Elgar’s Enigma Variations, became a feature of the National Service of Remembrance at the Cenotaph in Whitehall in 1920, the year of its inauguration, and one could scarcely imagine any other piece of music which complements the solemnity and dignity of the occasion so perfectly. The programme opens with the pastoral beauty of Vaughan Williams’ Fantasia on Greensleeves, an evocative arrangement that captures the essence of the English countryside.

English Chamber Orchestra: Mozart & Beethoven
A programme of timeless elegance and expressive power under the direction of Principal Guest Conductor Roberto Forés Veses, with pianist Lusine Khachatryan and soprano soloist Sarah Fox. The concert opens with the Overture in D major by Juan Crisóstomo Arriaga, often known as the ‘Spanish Mozart’ for his exceptional natural talent. Written shortly before his death at just 19, the Overture sparkles with poise, energy and confidence, setting a vibrant tone for the evening. Interwoven throughout the programme are three Mozart concert arias, reflecting the rich variety typical of 18th-century concert life, where symphonies, concertos and operatic scena would often sit side by side within a single evening. Written for specific singers and occasions, these works combine vocal brilliance with expressive immediacy. From the youthful assurance of Conservati fedele, to the graceful poise of Nehmt meinen Dank and the heightened drama of Vado, ma dove?, they offer vivid glimpses of Mozart’s theatrical instinct and evolving musical voice. At the heart of the programme is Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 21 in C major, one of the most beloved works in the concerto repertoire. Celebrated for its radiant lyricism, the Concerto’s slow movement is especially treasured for its serene, floating beauty. Lusine Khachatryan brings warmth, sensitivity and expressive depth to this much-loved masterpiece. The programme concludes with Beethoven’s Symphony No. 4, a joyful and energetic work, rich in rhythmic vitality, wit and invention. Standing between the monumental Third and Fifth Symphonies, the Fourth combines classical poise with emerging Romantic energy. Its brilliance and buoyancy bring the concert to an exhilarating close, demonstrating the Orchestra’s exceptional refinement and vitality.
Odyssey Festival Orchestra: Mahler & Sibelius
In 1907, two of the greatest symphonic composers, Gustav Mahler and Jean Sibelius met in Helsinki, where the former was guest conducting. There, they went on a walk together and discussed the future of the symphony. Both men were lovers of nature and believed that the natural world would be a key reference point. After that, however, their views could not have been more starkly contrasting. Mahler thought the symphony should expand to “contain the world”, while Sibelius favoured rigorous logic and compression. In tonight’s programme, London’s bold new orchestra of pre-professional musicians under the baton of its Artistic Director explores this great debate through two symphonies that highlight the composers’ contrasting philosophies. Afterwards, the audience will be invited to vote on which approach most appeals to them.

Bach: Magnificat In D

Bach: Magnificat In D

14 Mar 2026 - 14 Mar 2026

JS Bach’s Magnificat in D is one of the best-loved works in the choral repertoire. Taken from Luke’s gospel, the text is the Virgin Mary’s canticle celebrating her pregnancy with the promised Messiah. In his magnificent setting, Bach amplifies the voice of an ordinary young woman as she responds to the astounding news that she would give birth to the Son of God. Mozart’s Litaniae Lauretanae, a devotional to Mary written when he was only fifteen, showcases energy and sensitive artistry, with dynamic mood shifts capturing both reverence and exuberance. Commemorating King George II’s military victory, Handel’s Dettingen Te Deum is a stirring work of ceremonial splendour. A mix of regal grandeur, martial vigour and contemplation, it remains one of Handel’s most celebrated pieces for state occasions. Ealing Choral Society is joined by period instrument specialists The Hanover Band and an exceptional line-up of soloists, conducted by Peter Asprey.
