Rpo: Prokofiev And Borodin

Rpo: Prokofiev And Borodin

11 Jun 2025 - 11 Jun 2025

The wind rises, and waves smash against the North Sea coast of England. The earth shakes, as the very ground beneath our feet threatens to give way. Music can show us the world in magical new ways, and as conductor Gemma New brings the RPO’s season to a close, she’s chosen four pieces that stir the imagination even while they thrill the senses. Britten’s seascapes, Borodin’s oriental fantasies and Victoria Borisova-Ollas’ tribute to the imagination of Salman Rushdie will make a vivid setting for the playfulness and wit of Prokofiev’s brilliant Third Piano Concerto – played by young pianist Daniel Ciobanu for whom every performance is a new adventure.
Rpo: Tchaikovsky’s Sixth Symphony

Rpo: Tchaikovsky’s Sixth Symphony

29 May 2025 - 29 May 2025

Soaring romance, desperate tragedy and brilliant celebration: it’s all here, in a symphony that leaves no heartstring untugged, right up to its devastating and unforgettable conclusion. If you’ve heard our guest conductor Antonello Manacorda in action at the Royal Opera House, you’ll know that he aims straight for the heart of everything he conducts. So expect elegance and joy in Mozart’s exuberant Overture to The Magic Flute, and pure energy when he joins RPO Artist-in-Residence Johan Dalene to play the piece with which Dalene shot to fame in 2019: the powerful Violin Concerto by Carl Nielsen. The Blow Monkeys

The Blow Monkeys

9 Oct 2025 - 24 Oct 2025

With hits like ‘Digging Your Scene’ and ‘It Doesn’t Have To Be This Way’, The Blow Monkeys epitomised the glamour of mid-80s pop at its most graceful and sophisticated. In the band’s frontman Robert Howard (aka Dr. Robert), they possessed a tall, charismatic singer who was both camera-friendly and clever, who appeared to be just as much at ease on the catwalk that is pop’s conveyor belt as he was penning witty, incisive songs. While quite clearly Robert’s band, though, the Blow Monkeys were also gifted three immensely talented musicians in bassist Mick Anker (he of the trademark bowler hat), saxophonist Neville Henry and drummer Tony Kiley. Behind the band’s stylish veneer lay something else, which became increasingly apparent from Robert’s lyrics. While some of the Smash Hits generation avoided politics with a capital P, The Blow Monkeys openly criticised the policies of the Conservative government, railing against social injustices and adopting an openly left-of-centre stance on issues of the day. From openly endorsing the gay community “Digging Your Scene” to an outright attack on Margaret Thatcher ‘Celebrate (The Day After You)’ – a duet with the late, great Curtis Mayfield, The Blow Monkeys were always the thinking person’s pop group. As the 1980s progressed, so too did the band’s musical style, from a sound once dubbed “jazz punk” by Robert to a more soulful, jazzy style and an ever-increasing adoption of dance music. The Blow Monkeys of their rare, indie debut single ‘Live Today Love Tomorrow’ (recorded on a shoestring in 1981) would be barely recognisable to those who bought the Balearic remix of ‘La Passionara’ from 1990. And yet a soulful, spiritually uplifting strain has continued to run through their music – and, indeed, that of Robert’s solo recordings – to this day.

The Jazz Repertory Company Presents: Louis And The Duke In London 1932-33
In 1932, Louis Armstrong was a sensation when he made his European debut at the London Palladium. A year later Duke Ellington’s Famous Orchestra became the talk of the town when they topped the bill at the same venue performing such classics as Ring Dem Bells, Bugle Call Rag, Black and Tan Fantasy and Mood Indigo. Now, over 90 years later, the 13-piece Midnite Follies Orchestra (founded by Keith Nichols and Alan Cohen in 1978) recreate the sound of Duke Ellington’s Famous Orchestra in all its majesty with Vimala Rowe performing as Duke’s featured singer Ivie Anderson in Stormy Weather and It Don’t Mean A Thing If It Ain’t Got That Swing. For this concert, Enrico Tomasso plays the role of Louis Armstrong. At the tender age of six, Enrico performed for Louis Armstrong’s arrival in England in 1968 and the two of them became great friends, exchanging letters for the rest of Armstrong’s life. Satchmo’s influence is paramount in Rico’s style and the spirit of this jazz legend lives on in his playing. Both Louis and the Duke appeared at the Palladium with a number of variety acts of the time (Duke was 14th on the bill after an evening of juggling, tumbling, magic and novelty items). To recreate this style of presentation, the concert also features a selection of fine entertainers, including the Mampara Dance Troupe and Thomas ‘Spats’ Langham performing as George Formby. Connecting us directly with the world of show business of the early ’30s we have John Sutton who, besides being drummer with the Bryan Ferry Orchestra, Chris Barber and the Pasadena Roof Orchestra, is the grandson of music hall star Randolph Sutton who appeared at the Palladium with Duke Ellington. The concert is presented by master of ceremonies Mr Kerry Shale. The Jazz Repertory Company has been presenting a wide range of jazz concerts at Cadogan Hall since 2008. Everything from Ragtime to Modern Jazz, from Swing to Be-Bop, from Bix Beiderbecke to John Coltrane. The concerts are largely acoustic, feature the finest jazz musicians in the UK and from abroad and are renowned for their authenticity, scholarship and most importantly, their emphasis on entertainment.
The Jazz Repertory Company Presents: Miles Davis 1957-9: Kind Of Blue, Porgy And Bess And More
66 years after its release, Kind of Blue (featuring saxophonists John Coltrane, Cannonball Adderley and pianist Bill Evans) remains the best-selling jazz album of all time with over four million copies sold. Alongside Miles’s revered quintet and sextet albums of the 1950s his work with arranger and bandleader Gil Evans ranks among the most celebrated collaborations in jazz history. This concert features music from their first two albums together, Miles Ahead and Porgy and Bess. The delicacy of Evans’ impressionistic work on his albums with Davis is breathtaking. Using instruments seldom heard in jazz – oboe, alto and bass flutes, French horns, bass clarinets and tuba – he created a gorgeous backdrop for the solo trumpet. The role of Miles will be shared by Steve Fishwick (in the small band selections) and Freddie Gavita, winner of Best Trumpet Player at the 2017 British Jazz Awards. The concert will be presented by music journalist, author and TV presenter David Hepworth.

London Phoenix Orchestra - Summer Jazz
London Phoenix Orchestra brings light music and jazz to Cadogan for the final concert of its season. Fifty years after his death, master of light music Leroy Anderson’s charming Piano Concerto receives a rare performance, with Phillip Leslie as the soloist. For Duke Ellington, music existed “beyond category”. Left unfinished at his death, his Three Black Kings was intended as a eulogy to Martin Luther King and brings jazz and gospel to the orchestra which he regarded as “an expensive toy”. Shostakovich’s Suite For Variety Orchestra (often known erroneously as Jazz Suite No. 2) is best known for the waltz which was used in Stanley Kubrick’s Eyes Wide Shut. Short gems by Gershwin and Anderson complete the programme.

Choral at Cadogan 2025: Monteverdi Choir & Orchestre Révolutionnaire et Romantique
A thrilling new chapter begins as Jakob Lehmann, one of the most exciting young conductors in historically-inspired performance, makes his debut with the Monteverdi Choir. This concert marks the start of a groundbreaking exploration of Gioachino Rossini’s music on period instruments, offering a fresh perspective on the works of this operatic genius. Rossini’s rarely performed opera Ermione (1819) is one of his best-kept secrets—a vibrant drama set in the aftermath of the Trojan War. The carefully curated sequence of excerpts for this performance showcases dazzling music for soloists, orchestra, and chorus, bringing its emotional intensity to life. Complementing this is Rossini’s passionate Stabat Mater, written much later in his career. Linked thematically to Ermione by the shared motif of motherhood, it juxtaposes Andromache’s grief for her husband Hector and her son in the ruins of Troy, while the Virgin Mary grieves for her son, the crucified Christ. Critics consistently praise Lehmann’s ability to balance technical rigor with expressive freedom, describing his conducting as “precise,” “revelatory,” and “thrilling,” With Lehmann at the helm and the Monteverdi Choir delivering their signature excellence, this promises to be an evening of deep emotion and musical brilliance. Experience Rossini as you’ve never heard him before—alive with historical authenticity and dramatic power. Early booking advised.
The Snowman And The Gruffalo In Concert
A regular highlight of Christmas in Chelsea, the Mozart Symphony Orchestra returns to Cadogan Hall for its annual performance of the timeless classic, The Snowman, for which the film is shown on the big screen with live symphony orchestra providing the soundtrack. 16-year-old Alice Mackenzie sings the aria made so famous by Aled Jones: ‘Walking in the Air’. Following the huge success of The Gruffalo (composed for orchestra and narrator by Philip Mackenzie) at Cadogan Hall last Christmas, it makes a welcome return alongside its sequel, The Gruffalo’s Child. Rather like Peter and the Wolf, each character in the tale is represented by a different instrument of the orchestra… what will the Gruffalo be? This concert is the perfect antidote to panto and a wonderful Christmas treat for all the family. This performance is family-friendly. Babes in arms (children up to 2 years of age) are permitted to share a seat with each full-paying adult; children aged two years or more will require a paid ticket and seat. Booster seats are available on request (Stalls only, limited availability on a first-come, first-served basis). (Image © Snowman Enterprises Limited. Barts Choir

Barts Choir

16 Jul 2025 - 17 Jul 2025

An unfinished Requiem by a composer who died young, and a Mass by one enjoying a fruitful maturity – linked by friendship and the consolation, joy and hope that music can bring from personal or national troubles. For all the speculation about the composition of Mozart’s Requiem, it remains one of his defining works into which he poured his most intense inspiration. (It was also one of the first choral works performed by Barts Choir, 60 years young in 2025.) Haydn’s ‘Mass in Troubled Times’, and the name of the naval hero now attached to it, reminds us of the Napoleonic wars then raging in Europe. From the ominous trumpet calls of the opening Kyrie and in the Benedictus, the music turns to joy and hope, with the concluding Dona nobis pacem (“grant us peace”) surely referring not just to the individual soul but to the wider world.

Kensington Symphony Orchestra

Kensington Symphony Orchestra

30 Jun 2025 - 30 Jun 2025

Kensington Symphony Orchestra is joined by BBC Young Musician finalist Firoze Madon for Rachmaninov’s Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini (1934). A set of 24 variations on the last of Paganini’s 24 Caprices for Solo Violin, this popular showpiece is most famous for its slow 18th variation which features on numerous film and TV soundtracks. Music director Russell Keable also leads KSO in The Sea and the Seagulls (1911/orch. 1930), Respighi’s orchestration of a piano piece from Rachmaninov’s Études-Tableaux, Op. 33. The concert opens with Anatoly Lyadov’s tone poem Kikimora (1909) which exhibits an exceptional flair for orchestral colour as it tells the story of a monster’s evil plans, and concludes with Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 1 (1924-25), completed when the composer was just 19. Combining tragedy with wit, the work was an immediate success. Critics have since argued that it was influenced by vaudeville music, Stravinsky’s Petrushka, and Richard Strauss.
Beethoven's Pastoral with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra
Following the sell-out success of Beethoven’s Fifths, the world-famous Royal Philharmonic Orchestra performs another all-Beethoven programme, this time finding the composer in a more romantic frame of mind. Written during Beethoven’s infatuation with his ‘Immortal Beloved’, the Fourth Piano Concerto flouts convention at virtually every turn. Tender and lyrical, it culminates in a jubilant finale that seems to suggest the composer, endlessly unlucky in matters of the heart, has discovered the joy of life itself. The ‘Pastoral’ Symphony is his love letter to the spirit of nature. Again, wearing his heart on his sleeve, Beethoven fills five highly melodic movements with characteristic touches, a profusion of contrasting ideas following one after another. The movements all bear unambiguously bucolic titles and are (mostly) unashamedly sunny. Opening with the heroic Egmont Overture, this concert is the second in a series of two Sunday afternoon concerts with the RPO.

British Youth Opera: Peter Grimes

British Youth Opera: Peter Grimes

6 Jul 2025 - 6 Jul 2025

Whispers, judgments, and accusations swirl around a tight-knit English fishing village. A fisherman’s apprentice is dead and Peter Grimes, the boy’s employer, is in the frame. Benjamin Britten’s landmark opera is the story of a man isolated between the cruel gossip of the local village and the savagery of the open sea. Celebrating 80 years since its premiere, the UK’s national opera training company is pairing up with Cambridge Philharmonic for this semi-staged performance. Established names in the three key roles are joined by the next generation of opera professionals from BYO’s advanced summer programme as well as the Cambridge Philharmonic chorus.

From medieval melodies to modern compositions, this musical journey celebrates the heart of Christmas – a humble birth surrounded by heavenly song. Early booking advised.
Choral At Cadogan 2025: The Cardinall’s Musick
A programme which juxtaposes love for God with love for another person, and considers the emotions and experiences that result. It also features the second performance of Julian Anderson’s stunning madrigal Nothing at all and a rare opportunity to hear some of the Ten Blake Songs written right at the end of Vaughan Williams’ life. Love for God sees Mary Magdalene’s searching for Jesus after his death in Victoria’s six-part masterpiece, and William Byrd’s stubborn and resolute clinging to his Catholic faith in spite of the political and social censure of the times. The ultimate betrayal – Judas handing over Jesus to the authorities – sits at the centre of the second half.
Choral At Cadogan 2025: The Tallis Scholars - The Earth Moves (Spem In Alium)
The Tallis Scholars present two of the largest choral works to come from the Renaissance period. Tallis‘ 40-part motet Spem in alium, cast in five eight-part choirs, needs little introduction, but Brumel‘s 12-part ‘Earthquake’ Mass is just now beginning to be recognised for the masterpiece it is. In a musical style all its own, Brumel’s invention never flags, producing across a work which lasts nearly 50 minutes, a kaleidoscope of patterns, textures and rhythmic excitements. Truly a bucket-list piece. Early booking advised.
Choral At Cadogan 2025: The Tallis Scholars - Victoria Requiem
Victoria’s six-voice Missa pro defunctis (or Requiem) is one of the greatest choral compositions from any period, creating a mood – contemplative but never despairing – which never lets the listener go. It is difficult to put other music alongside it, but for this programme I decided to introduce it by going big, and largely Flemish. The Gombert and Crecquillon items are scored for eight real voices, not hidden in a double-choir format, but always in play. Clemens’ iconic Ego flos campi is very similar in style, though ‘only’ for seven voices. Nico Muhly’s A Glorious Creature, which was written for us and premiered at our 50th birthday celebration in November 2023, is not so dissimilar in style either, using all our ten voices throughout, and centered on the attributes of the sun. The unusual writing in the text is by the renaissance poet, Thomas Traherne; the complicated rhythms in the music are all the inspiration of the composer. — Peter Phillips, director

The Lark Ascending And Duruflé Requiem
Join the City of London Sinfonia and Brighton Festival Chorus, with conductor James Morgan, for a contemplative summer programme. Vaughan Williams’ beautiful Fantasia on Greensleeves is followed by the UK premiere of Libby Croad’s The Brontë Suite – a stunning setting for choir and strings of poetry by each of the three Brontë sisters. We welcome Alexandra Wood to play Vaughan Williams’ The Lark Ascending. Written in the summer of 1914 on the eve of war, it has a poignancy, beauty, and a sense of nostalgia that captures the very essence of reflectiveness and Englishness. After the interval, Duruflé’s greatest composition, his Requiem – one of the undisputed masterpieces of the 20th-century choral repertoire, described as “a work of sumptuous craft, beautiful unity and real grandeur”.
Béla Fleck, Edmar Castañeda, Antonio Sanchez Trio
Banjo. Drums. Harp. Huh? To be sure, the new all-star trio of Béla Fleck, harpist Edmar Castañeda, and drummer Antonio Sanchez features instrumentation that might safely be called uncommon. Unless, of course, you’re already familiar with the 18-time Grammy-winner Fleck – the genre-blurring virtuoso who has done more to expand the possibilities of the banjo than any other player in the instrument’s history. From his bluegrass beginnings through his otherworldly Flecktones, his duo with Chick Corea and his reimagining of Rhapsody in Blue, Fleck’s work never fails to surprise. “Fleck is surely the finest banjo player on the planet” The Guardian What doesn’t surprise is the impeccable calibre of his collaborators – and this new trio includes two of the most gifted musicians of their generation. The harpist, Casteñada, hails from Bogotá, Colombia, and has led his own bands in addition to sharing projects with such masters as Hiromi, Paquito D’Rivera and Grégoire Maret. Five-time Grammy-winner Sánchez grew up in Mexico City and built a reputation as one of the great jazz drummers through his work with guitarist Pat Metheny. He’s also been a visionary bandleader, helming progressive groups like Bad Hombre, and collaborated with Chick Corea, Gary Burton, Charlie Haden, Michael Brecker and other giants. His Golden Globe-nominated drum-set score for Alejandro González Iñárritu’s 2014 film Birdman earned him renown far outside the jazz world. Playing original repertoire, much of it collaboratively written, this trio embarks on fearless explorations that audiences will find irresistible – rich with strong melodies, gorgeous harmony and grooves that twist and turn while feeling fantastic.
Chelsea Opera Group: Bellini's La Straniera
After their triumph at La Scala, Milan, in 1827 with Il pirata, Vincenzo Bellini and the librettist Felice Romani continued their partnership with La straniera. Their new opera, which had an equally enthusiastic reception at La Scala in 1829, is set in Brittany and centres on Alaide, the ‘foreigner’ of the title, who is a former Queen of France, compelled to live as a recluse. The romantic and dramatic complications arising from the presence of this mysterious figure in the local community make up the opera’s story. Eschewing opportunities for vocal display, Bellini makes powerful use of expressive recitative and ensembles rather than arias to create his effects. This performance offers lovers of bel canto a rare opportunity to hear a strong piece which has fallen into neglect, overshadowed by the masterpieces like Norma and I puritani which followed it. Helena Dix makes a welcome return in the lead role of Alaide. Concert performance in Italian with English surtitles. 4.45pm: Pre-concert talk with Simon Bainbridge.

The legendary guitarist has a professional career that spans five decades and continues to intersect with some of the finest musicians throughout the world. A household name in his native Australia, Tommy has garnered hundreds of thousands of loyal fans worldwide. Tommy’s unique style – he calls it simply “finger style” – is akin to playing guitar the way a pianist plays piano, using all ten fingers. Rather than using a whole band for melody, rhythm, bass, and drum parts, Tommy plays all that – and more – on one guitar. Guitar legend Chet Atkins was one of the first to inspire Emmanuel to try this “fingerpicker” style as a child. Decades later, Atkins himself became one of Emmanuel’s biggest fans. Tommy Emmanuel is an honorary Kentucky Colonel, a CGP (Certified Guitar Player – a title given by Chet Atkins to only 5 guitarists in the world), an Order of Australia Medalist (AM) and the holder of both an honorary Master’s Degree (MA) and more recently an honorary Doctor of Arts (DR) from Charles Sturt University in Australia in recognition of his commitment to rural Australia and his contribution to music education.

Les Égarés: Sissoko, Segal, Parisien And Peirani
The stellar quartet featuring Ballaké Sissoko (kora), Vincent Segal (cello), Vincent Peirani (accordion) and Émile Parisien (sax), channel a multitude of influences to irresistible effect. Malian musical royalty Ballaké Sissoko has spent many years making records with French cellist Vincent Segal that bring together Manding and European chamber traditions. Meanwhile, Émile Parisien and Vincent Peirani have worked together as a saxophone and accordion duo somewhere in the hinterlands of jazz and folk. In the new album Les Egarés (2023) meaning ‘those who have gone astray’, the two pairs combine and recombine in the art of cross-fertilising sounds and transcending genres. Les Egarés reminds us of the rebelliousness that can be found in a spirit of concord and the extent to which the art of playing together with such fine intelligence can generate an extremely subtle way of lighting a fuse. In Les Egarés, they succeed in reordering the musical landscape to uncover lines of escape of a hitherto unheard beauty. Ballaké Sissoko (kora) Vincent Segal (cello) Vincent Peirani (accordion) Émile Parisien (sax) Presented by Serious. Under 16s must be accompanied by an adult

Two-time Oscar nominee Jeremy Renner was the second most googled person on Earth in 2023- not just for his acclaimed roles in The Hurt Locker, American Hustle, and Marvel’s Avengers, but for surviving a near fatal snowplow accident on New Year’s Day. For the first time, Renner will speak on stage about that life-altering event and the transformation that followed. His memoir, My Next Breath, is more than a survival story- it’s an emotional, physical, and spiritual journey of recovery-and rediscovery. He reflects on his childhood, early struggles in Hollywood, fatherhood, and the strength found in vulnerability. A testament to the human spirit, Renner’s story explores identity, resilience, and what it means to live with purpose. His journey resonates with anyone who’s ever asked: What now?
RPO: Alexandra Tirsu plays Prokofiev
The young Prokofiev wrote his First Violin Concerto in an age of revolution, but you’d never guess – it’s practically a fairy-tale in sound. And with her ravishing sound and lightning-fast fingers, there’s no more stylish interpreter than the Moldovan violinist Alexandra Tirsu – especially when she’s accompanied by conductor Eun Sun Kim (“a major star” – The New York Times). Lili Boulanger’s vibrant and playful march, written around the same time as the Prokofiev, makes for an energetic opening; meanwhile, Sergei Rachmaninov’s Second Symphony is the orchestral equivalent of a blockbuster movie – a sweeping emotional drama, filled with winter storms, huge sunlit vistas and mile after mile of unforgettable melodies. Is this the ultimate romantic symphony? All we know is that it sounds wonderful, and we can’t wait to share it. “Kim’s precise and picturesque gestures brought colour, drive, dynamic variety and nuance to Rachmaninov.” (Bachtrack)
Rpo: Boris Giltburg Plays Grieg

Rpo: Boris Giltburg Plays Grieg

16 Oct 2025 - 16 Oct 2025

‘Titanic’ was how one critic described the playing of pianist Boris Giltburg, and they didn’t stop there: ‘Giltburg had enormous reserves of firepower – and of musing poetry, too – to open up whole worlds of feeling and imagination.’ Now imagine him bringing all his wizardry to one of the best-loved showpieces of all time – Grieg’s evergreen (and gloriously tuneful) Piano Concerto. With an extra touch of magic from the RPO’s charismatic Conductor-in-Residence Kevin John Edusei, it’s the big heart of a concert that begins in California, with Gabriella Smith’s ingenious musical nature notebook and ends beneath the Northern Lights of Finland, as Sibelius’ mighty Second Symphony grows from tranquil beginnings to a soaring hymn of triumph. Prepare to be swept away. “He made me listen to the music afresh… the whole trajectory of the piece became clearer. The audience’s reaction was fervent and impassioned, and rightly so.” Seen and Heard International on Boris Giltburg RPO Annual Legacy Giving Concert
Rpo: Dvořák, Brahms And Mozart

Rpo: Dvořák, Brahms And Mozart

19 Feb 2026 - 19 Feb 2026

You never know where inspiration will strike. For Dvořák, the sight of a train arriving in Prague station suggested the opening of his Seventh Symphony. Personal tragedy did the rest, and the result is one of the most stirring (and beautiful) of Romantic symphonies: tense, stormy and pounding with emotion. It’s a perfect match for guest conductor Adam Hickox, just as Brahms’ huge, sunlit Second Piano Concerto could have been written for the glorious sound and effortless brilliance of Pavel Kolesnikov – the award-winning piano virtuoso from Siberia who’s made his home in London, dazzling ears and stirring souls whenever he plays. And because genius loves company, it all starts with Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart – and the irrepressible overture to the perfect comic opera. “Kolesnikov’s playing combines great emotional intelligence with understated virtuosity: every shift in sonority and mood speaks volumes in interpretations that are consistently striking.” The Guardian
Rpo: Makoto Ozone Plays Gershwin

Rpo: Makoto Ozone Plays Gershwin

27 May 2026 - 27 May 2026

A clarinet soars upwards – and immediately, you can picture the skyscrapers of jazz-age Manhattan. There’s nothing quite like Rhapsody in Blue, and few living pianists play Gershwin with more flair than our soloist today, Japanese jazz legend Makoto Ozone. And with RPO Conductor-in-Residence Kevin John Edusei is conducting, there are endless pictures to be painted and stories to be told. High in the mountains of Transylvania, György Ligeti hears a shepherd blow his horn, and gypsy fiddles flash around the campfire. And far from his Hungarian homeland, composed in the USA, Béla Bartók’s Concerto for Orchestra sets out to put a great orchestra through its paces and ends up by punching the air with glee. This is music that loves life – and believe us, you can feel it. “…unfailingly inventive and entertaining.” The Scotsman on Makoto Ozone This concert is generously supported by Calderwood.
Rpo: Mendelssohn, Elgar And Wagner

Rpo: Mendelssohn, Elgar And Wagner

25 Nov 2025 - 25 Nov 2025

“In the evening twilight we went today to the palace were Queen Mary lived and loved,” wrote Felix Mendelssohn from Edinburgh in 1829, after visiting the ruins of Holyrood. “I think I have found there the beginning of my ‘Scottish’ Symphony.” Though much has changed in 196 years, there’s still no more melodious – or poetic – musical portrait of Scotland as seen through the eyes of one of music’s supreme Romantics. Conductor Antony Hermus brings a fresh perspective to Mendelssohn’s highland fling, setting it against the sea spray and howling gales of Wagner’s great musical seascape, and joining the wonderful British contralto Jess Dandy in Elgar’s Sea Pictures – five songs filled with surging waves and surprisingly dark passions. Thought you knew Elgar? Think again… “We were fortunate to have the rare opportunity to hear a true contralto: Jess Dandy’s beautiful, rich voice was captivating.” Bachtrack Kindly supported by The Elgar Society
Rpo: Midori Plays Sibelius

Rpo: Midori Plays Sibelius

25 Sept 2025 - 25 Sept 2025

Once upon a time, there was a merry rascal named Till Eulenspiegel… With a cheeky horn call and a burst of laughter, the RPO’s new season springs into life. Richard Strauss was music’s master storyteller, and every laugh, tear and punchline of Till’s madcap adventures is crammed into this dazzling score. You can almost sense the seduction in the dizzying waltzes and silken strings of Strauss’ ravishing Suite from Der Rosenkavalier too. But there’s more than one way to tell a tale, and the RPO’s Principal Associate Conductor Alexander Shelley showcases the vibrant colours of Studio Ghibli composer Joe Hisaishi – the man behind Spirited Away and My Neighbour Totoro, and the RPO’s Composer-in-Association – and soars high above the Nordic skies with violin legend Midori, in Sibelius’ elemental Violin Concerto. “Midori unfurled ‘the music as a seamlessly lyrical rainbow – a small miracle of rhythmic precision and crystalline clarity.” The Strad
Rpo: Poulenc's Gloria

Rpo: Poulenc's Gloria

11 Nov 2025 - 11 Nov 2025

Sacred music was never meant to be this much fun! “Part monk, part hooligan” was how one contemporary described the French composer Francis Poulenc, and they might have been talking about his Gloria too: a huge, irreverent shout of joy for a great chorus. The City of London Choir joins the RPO and conductor Daniel Hyde to raise the roof today; first, though, there’s another choral blockbuster from France (this time by Lili Boulanger), music reminiscent of a holiday in Provence from the composer of Carmen, and Debussy’s beautiful moonlit serenade. We also hear not one but two musical letters from America. Everyone loves the deep emotion of Barber’s Adagio – but when you hear soprano Sally Matthews sing Knoxville, his tender memoir of a vanished youth, we think you’ll fall in love all over again. Her “singing – first eloquent, then hysterical; initially refined, before soaring with an ecstasy wrought from liquid fire – was in a category that ‘virtuosic’ doesn’t begin to cover.” Richard Bratby on Sally Matthews in The Spectator
Rpo: Rachmaninov's Symphony No.1

Rpo: Rachmaninov's Symphony No.1

31 Mar 2026 - 31 Mar 2026

At the age of 22, Rachmaninov had his heart broken. He poured all his ambition and all his emotion into the epic score of his First Symphony, which goes off like a volcano – wild, passionate and positively brimming with inspiration. For many years it was lost, but today conductor Nil Venditti gives this youthful tour de force its due. The Northampton-born composer Edmund Rubbra, meanwhile, was one of the most admired names in post-war British music, but today his radiant Piano Concerto – inspired by the flowers and moods of the English countryside – is a real rarity. Pianist Mark Bebbington has made it his mission to rediscover Britain’s lost masterworks, and this one’s a jewel. You might be about to discover your new favourite piece. “Venditti’s facility for phrasing and for highlighting detail was to the fore, teasing from the orchestra a warm sound and a bright demeanour.” Bachtrack
Rpo: Sir John Rutter Conducts Reflections
He’s too modest to admit it, but Sir John Rutter might just be the world’s best-loved living classical composer. Millions have sung his music, millions more have been touched by it: fresh, sincere and written with genuine love, it’s part of all our lives. For the RPO, any chance to work with Sir John is a special occasion, and tonight’s concert is no exception as he conducts the UK premiere of Reflections, a brand new piano concerto which will be performed by British pianist Steven Osborne. That’s the highlight of a concert that features two of Sir John’s favourite American classics – pure uplift – and another, very special treat, as he conducts RPO principal oboe John Roberts in a delightful solo showpiece. Experience musical history in the making. “Tremendous… from first note to last.” The Guardian on Steven Osborne Generously supported by The 1916 Foundation in Montchanin, Delaware.
RPO: Strauss’ Four Last Songs

RPO: Strauss’ Four Last Songs

26 Feb 2026 - 26 Feb 2026

“I am the new Bacchus, pressing out glorious wine for the human spirit”: Ludwig van Beethoven never pulled his punches, but until you’ve heard his Seventh Symphony in full flight, you’ve never known just how intoxicating music can be. That’s just the climax to a whole concert that takes aim straight at the emotions. At the end of a long life, Richard Strauss poured all the colours of the sunset into his heart-rending Four Last Songs – they’re a favourite on Desert Island Discs, and when they’re sung by the glorious voice of soprano Masabane Cecilia Rangwanasha, you’ll understand why. Conductor Kevin John Edusei launches the evening with a vision of beauty from Canadian composer Samy Moussa, inspired by the magnificent landscape of the Caucasus Mountains. “South African soprano Masabane Cecilia Rangwanasha sang with creamy tone, enviable diction and a commanding confidence as she hurled forth a battery of gleaming top notes.” The Guardian
Rpo: Stravinsky's The Firebird - Suite

Rpo: Stravinsky's The Firebird - Suite

30 Sept 2025 - 30 Sept 2025

A timeless saga from northern lands, a book of fairy stories with a deliciously French twist, and an adventure beyond your imagination from Igor Stravinsky – a world of dark shadows, dancing demons and glittering colours. Sounds incredible? Just wait until you hear it live with conductor Emilia Hoving and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. That’s the wonder of a great orchestra in full flight; it can take you to extraordinary places. Today, along with pianist Alexandra Dariescu, we’ll take you further as we delve into the musical world of Croatian composer Dora Pejačević, a forgotten genius from the age of Mahler and Ravel. If you enjoy their music, you’ll love this sweeping, deliriously romantic showpiece from the sunset years of the Austro-Hungarian empire. “Phantasie Concertante… sounding a little like Rachmaninov with a modernist twist, gave the soloist Alexandra Dariescu a chance to display pianistic brilliance… Dariescu took all this in her stride.” The Telegraph
Rpo: Tchaikovsky's Symphony No.5

Rpo: Tchaikovsky's Symphony No.5

10 Jun 2026 - 10 Jun 2026

Tchaikovsky never held back. He asked for his Fifth Symphony to be performed con desiderio e passione – with desire and passion – and when guest conductor Cornelius Meister joins the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra at Cadogan Hall we can promise exactly that. With its heartfelt melodies and blazing colours, we love playing Tchaikovsky’s Fifth as much as you love hearing it, and there’s no more stirring way to finish a season packed with music at its most uninhibited. But that’s not all: the evening opens with a delightful new miniature from Composer-in-Association Joe Hisaishi (Spirited Away). And Clara-Jumi Kang brings all her world-class insight to Britten’s powerful Violin Concerto, written on the eve of World War II. Strong emotions, stunningly played. “The Britten… had a dazzling performer in Clara-Jumi Kang: dedicated, highly expressive and varied.” Bachtrack

Together for 56 years, Steeleye Span changed the face of folk music forever, introducing it to the world of gold discs and international tours. Now they return with Conflict, their first full studio album in over five years. All traditional singers have sung modern and self-composed pieces alongside old songs, and Conflict is an album that follows in that very tradition. The album’s title was chosen as much to reflect the times in which we find ourselves, but also the stretch and tear of our relationship with this planet that hosts us. As ever – and with such a rich history to choose from – the night will offer a selection of songs from across the years and firm fan favourites. “Don’t miss them…” The Independent

Mullova Plays Mozart

Mullova Plays Mozart

4 Nov 2025 - 4 Nov 2025

Internationally acclaimed violinist Viktoria Mullova makes her eagerly awaited debut with The Mozartists in two of Mozart’s most popular concertos. This programme of works composed in 1775 continues Ian Page’s highly acclaimed MOZART 250 series which follows Mozart’s life, work and influences in chronological sequence across a 27-year span, and it also features an infectiously exuberant and beautifully crafted symphony by Haydn and a typically zany symphony by C.P.E. Bach.
Opera In 1775

Opera In 1775

17 Sept 2025 - 17 Sept 2025

The Mozartists’ ground-breaking MOZART 250 series continues with this revelatory selection from operas that were being performed 250 years ago in 1775. Highlights from Mozart’s serenely effervescent Il re pastore include the exquisite ‘L’amerò, sarò costante’ and the infectiously joyful finale, ‘Viva l’invitto Duce’, and the programme also contains an idyllic trio from Haydn’s ‘Turkish’ opera and a scintillatingly virtuosic aria from J.C. Bach’s Lucio Silla. Also included are modern-day premieres of arias from the two operas that were commissioned alongside Mozart’s 1775 operas: Antonio Tozzi’s Orfeo ed Euridice opened in Munich a few days before Mozart’s La finta giardiniera, while Gli orti esperidi by Domenico Fischietti (who three years earlier had been controversially appointed as Kapellmeister in Salzburg) was the main commission for the royal visit for which Mozart’s Il re pastore was also written. An outstanding line-up of young singers is headed by soprano Ava Dodd and tenor Hugo Brady, who both starred in The Mozartists’ acclaimed performance of La finta giardiniera at Cadogan Hall in March, and Mozart specialist Ian Page conducts his award-winning period-instrument orchestra. 6.15pm: Pre-concert talk Conductor Ian Page gives a talk discussing the evening’s repertoire (in the auditorium, free to ticket holders).
The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra at Cadogan Hall
The wind rises, and waves smash against the North Sea coast of England. The earth shakes, as the very ground beneath our feet threatens to give way. And, in 19th-century Russia, a chemist with a gift for music dreams of ancient times and exotic tribes and creates sheer sonic alchemy. Music can show us the world in magical new ways, and in this concert the LondonPhilharmonicOrchestra has chosen four pieces that stir the imagination even while they thrill the senses. BrittensFour Sea Interludes, BorodinsPolovtsian Dancesand Victoria Borisova-Ollas tribute to the imagination of Salman Rushdie,Open Ground, will make a vivid setting for the playfulness and wit of Prokofievs brilliantThird Piano Concerto played by young pianist Daniel Ciobanu for whom every performance is a new adventure. This trip is for all year groups and is particularly recommended for Year 7 pupils, who can attend as part of their Cultural Enrichment Project.

George Monbiot Meets Ian Mcewan

George Monbiot Meets Ian Mcewan

18 Sept 2025 - 18 Sept 2025

Join Ian McEwan and George Monbiot for a celebration of the extraordinary tenacity of the human spirit and a journey into a climate-ravaged future where all is not quite lost. Since his immediate rise to literary acclaim 50 years ago for his taut, unflinching short stories about love and desire, to his latest voyages into the uncharted territories of climate change and AI, one thing has remained consistent across Ian McEwan’s astonishing oeuvre: the precision with which he can dissect both the mysteries of the human psyche and the tribulations of our age. Now he joins George Monbiot to reveal What We Can Know: a fictional tour de force that reclaims the present from our looming sense of catastrophe and asks profound questions about who we are and where we are going. 2014: A great poem is read aloud and never heard again. For generations, people have speculated about its message, but no copy has yet been found. 2119: The lowlands of the UK have been submerged by rising seas. Those who survive are haunted by the richness of the world that has been lost. Tom Metcalfe, an academic at the University of the South Downs, part of Britain’s remaining island archipelagos, pores over the archives of that distant era, captivated by the freedoms and possibilities of human life at its zenith. When he stumbles across a clue that may lead to a lost poem, a story is revealed of entangled loves and a crime that destroys his assumptions about people he thought he knew intimately well. Don’t miss this exclusive conversation between Britain’s foremost environmental activist and its most distinguished novelist as they explore love, loss, survival, the life of the artist and the power of literature in the face of climate breakdown. Ian McEwan is the critically acclaimed author of 17 novels and two short-story collections. His first published work, a collection of short stories, First Love, Last Rites, won the Somerset Maugham Award. His novels include The Child in Time, which won the 1987 Whitbread Novel of the Year Award; The Cement Garden; Enduring Love; Amsterdam, which won the 1998 Booker Prize; Atonement; Saturday; On Chesil Beach; Solar; Sweet Tooth; The Children Act; Nutshell; Machines Like Me, which was a number-one bestseller, and Lessons. Atonement, Enduring Love, The Children Act and On Chesil Beach have all been adapted for the big screen. All tickets to this event include a copy of Ian McEwan’s new novel What We Can Know (RRP £22). There will be a post-event book signing in the main foyer.

Oscar Wilde once said, “Imitation is the highest form of flattery that mediocrity can pay to greatness.” Jazz musicians have always known this and have always done their best to stand on the shoulders of giants. While these three musicians are in no way mediocre, they will happily afford every flattery to the great Thelonious Monk. Here are three friends getting together to pay homage to one of the greatest Jazz composers of the 20th century, Thelonious Monk. With a wealth of experience and artistry at their fingertips Dave O’Higgins, Luke Fowler and Billy Pod have set out to pay their respects to the works of Thelonious Monk and to use his compositions to express themselves and display their veracious talents.

OTL25: 'Peggy's Got The Blues'

8 Jul 2025 - 8 Jul 2025

Following on from the success of The Allure of Miss Lee (an evening of songs and stories of jazz icon Peggy Lee) jazz vocalist Catherine Lima and her quartet bring you Peggy’s Got the Blues. Lee’s voice was very distinctive – it was understated but full of subtlety with a breathy tone that became her trademark, significantly enhanced by her liking for cigarettes! She made over 50 albums covering many different styles of music, giving them all her unique treatment – it seemed she could turn her voice to anything. However, she had an innate blues style and Peggy’s Got the Blues celebrates that style. With Peggy Lee trademark hits such as ‘Fever’ and ‘Is That All There Is?’, this show also embraces some of Lee’s lesser-known repertoire. “I listened to her version of ‘The Folks Who Live On The Hill’ and it’s really lovely. Not at all an imitation but her quiet delivery captures the essence of Peggy Lee” Holly Foster Wells (Peggy Lee’s granddaughter and President of Peggy Lee Associates) A London-based singer/songwriter Catherine has been delighting her audiences on the jazz circuit for over 15 years. A charismatic and entertaining performer, she has a warm expressive tone which she uses expertly to create moods from sultry to joyous, drawing on influences such as Anita O’Day, Peggy Lee, Ella Fitzgerald, Joni Mitchell, Patricia Barber and Barbra Streisand.

Zios Brno Philharmonic

Zios Brno Philharmonic

17 Oct 2025 - 17 Oct 2025

Hearing a visiting orchestra and conductor is like meeting a new person, or visiting a new place – part of the joy is getting to encounter something uniquely authentic; something that can’t be experienced any other way. That goes double in this concert from the Brno Philharmonic. Naturally, nothing beats the unmistakable flavour of Janáček played by his own home town orchestra! But imagine hearing the music of living legend Philip Glass performed by two of his most devoted champions, conductor Dennis Russell Davies and pianist Maki Namekawa. His Mishima Concerto is based on music from his cult film score Mishima, but there’s something almost cinematic about Dvořák’s Seventh Symphony too: a stirring close to a concert full of drama. “Spellbinding.” Fjord Magazine on Maki Namekawa
ZIOS Concerto Budapest Symphony Orchestra
They’re the most famous four notes in history. “This is how Fate knocks at the door!” is how Beethoven described the opening of his Fifth Symphony, but if that’s all you know of this game-changing masterpiece, you’re in for a wonderful discovery, as conductor András Keller and the Concerto Budapest Symphony Orchestra unleash the full, electrifying power of Beethoven at the absolute top of his game. It’s the climax of a concert that features Shostakovich at his most tuneful (and cheeky) and Liszt at his most spectacular, and which stars the superb British pianist Paul Lewis in Beethoven’s darkest and most personal piano concerto. Some say it’s his greatest – but come and hear for yourself. “Musically illuminating.” TheArtsDesk.com on Paul Lewis
ZIOS Czech Janáček Philharmonic Orchestra
The Soviet authorities called it an “optimistic tragedy”. Shostakovich simply called it his Tenth Symphony. Dark, tense, packed with secret messages and featuring a hair-raising musical portrait of Stalin himself; what’s certain is that Shostakovich’s Tenth is one of the mightiest of 20th-century symphonies – one of those pieces that you simply have to hear live. Critics have described the conductor Daniel Raiskin as “stunningly good”, so who better to probe Shostakovich’s secrets – and to partner the distinguished British violinist Jennifer Pike in Britain’s favourite romantic violin concerto? First though, Raiskin and this outstanding Czech orchestra share a gift from home: the woodland magic (and musical mischief) of Janáček’s Cunning Little Vixen… “Superbly assured.” Gramophone on Jennifer Pike

Some pianists just have something special, and Freddy Kempf is one of them. He’s a keyboard wizard – “virtuosity with a vengeance, with no hint of a safety net” was how Gramophone described his playing. But he’s also one of those performers who reaches out and connects with his listeners, and in the decades since his youthful triumph in BBC Young Musician, British audiences have taken him to their hearts. So expect far more than just a brief encounter when he joins the Malta Philharmonic and its principal conductor Sergey Smbatyan in Rachmaninov’s hugely popular Second Piano Concerto. And then hold tight for the unchained melodies and soaring emotions of Tchaikovsky’s epic Fifth Symphony, conducted by a maestro who has this music in his blood. “The finger work is as clean as a whistle – every note in place, every bar crystalline.” Musicweb-international.com on Freddy Kempf
Zios National Symphony Orchestra Of Ukraine
Beethoven didn’t have much time for tyrants. “If I understood war as well as I understand music, I would conquer him” was his verdict when Napoleon invaded Austria – and judging from the daring, the charisma and the sheer, elemental force of his ‘Eroica’ (Heroic) Symphony, he might have had a point. The commitment and skill of Ukrainian musicians always receives a warm welcome here at Cadogan Hall, and tonight, one of Ukraine’s most-admired pianists takes the spotlight in the majestic ‘Emperor’ Concerto – music of unbreakable grandeur and defiance, and the perfect complement to the ‘Eroica’. An 18th-century Ukrainian classic makes a delightful opening to an evening of music-making at its most committed. “Conducting without a baton but with vivid gestures, generated a white heat of energy.” The Times on Volodymyr Sirenko
ZIOS Spanish Galicia Symphony Orchestra
A rhythm, a flute, and a melody you’ll never forget… it’s hard to say what exactly makes Ravel’s Boléro so irresistible. But this French composer had Spanish blood, and tonight’s concert is filled with the sunshine, the fragrance and the pure, intoxicating passion of Spain at its most seductive. Wild, whirling dances from Falla and Turina, delicate fairy tales from Ravel – it’s a fiesta in sound, even before Boléro strikes up that unstoppable beat. But we couldn’t spend a night in Spain without hearing the classical guitar, and tonight the Coruña-based Spanish Galicia Symphony Orchestra is joined by dazzling young French guitarist Thibaut Garcia in that most Spanish of all guitar concertos: Rodrigo’s haunting and much-loved Concierto de Aranjuez. “Such a combination of virtuosity, intelligence, character and flair.” Gramophone on Thibaut Garcia

Tchaikovsky never did anything by halves, and he poured all his heartache, his sorrow and his matchless gift for melody into a final symphony like no other. Don’t be misled by the name: ‘Pathétique’ means ‘full of feelings’ and when Krzysztof Urbański conducts the Warsaw Philharmonic, that’s exactly what they’ll bring – as well as glowing colours and some of the greatest tunes even Tchaikovsky ever composed. These superb Polish musicians are always a big hit at Cadogan Hall; tonight they share a lost masterpiece by the postwar Polish composer Grażyna Bacewicz and join pianist Alexandra Dariescu in the teenage Chopin’s Second Piano Concerto – true romance, played with love. Hear it, and feel your heart melt.
Elizabeth Sombart Plays Schubert And Chopin
After the success of the Chopin etc series, a welcome return to Cadogan Hall for renowned Chopin exponent Elizabeth Sombart “Sombart’s playing is superb: technically precise but possessing a flexibility and freedom that lets the music breathe” The Observer A programme of two halves culminates in the Polish genius’ irresistible Piano Sonata No. 3 in B minor paired with a charming Mazurka and a rigorous Étude. The first half of the concert, however, is devoted to Schubert: the tender, barcarolle-like Klavierstücke No. 2, and the extraordinary soliloquy, Sonata in B flat major, D.960, written just weeks before the composer’s death and throbbing with restless melancholy.

Join eleven of the world’s leading musicians for an evening of achingly beautiful Romantic masterpieces. Schubert’s sublime String Quintet in C – with its famous haunting Adagio – showcases the composer at his most inspired, while Strauss’ gorgeous Sextet from Capriccio is a love letter to music itself. His final opera follows a composer and a poet each vying for the love of a Countess, with the opening sextet imagined as a work written by the composer Flamand for his beloved. Sensual and intimate, Schoenberg’s Verklärte Nacht is the composer’s best-loved work. Inspired by a poem following two lovers’ emotions through infidelity and forgiveness, Schoenberg weaves gorgeous Romantic melodies into what some consider the greatest sextet ever written.
Ukrainian Freedom Orchestra

Ukrainian Freedom Orchestra

29 Aug 2025 - 29 Aug 2025

The Ukrainian Freedom Orchestra, formed in 2022 under the baton of Canadian-Ukrainian conductor Keri-Lynn Wilson, stands as a testament to the spirit of Ukraine’s musical community. Uniting musicians from within Ukraine and those in exile, they captivated audiences across prestigious venues worldwide, from the BBC Proms to New York’s Lincoln Center. They open with Maxim Kolomiiets’ Suite from The Mothers of Kherson. This deeply moving contemporary work pays tribute to the strength and sorrow of all mothers enduring the ravages of war. Wagner’s Prelude and Liebestod from Tristan und Isolde explore the depths of love and transcendence. With orchestral textures and emotional intensity, soprano Rachel Willis-Sørensen brings Wagner’s masterwork to life, whose voice effortlessly conveys Wagner’s vision of spiritual transformation. Culminating in Beethoven’s monumental Symphony No. 5, from its iconic opening motif, famously described as ‘fate knocking at the door’, to its jubilant finale, the Ukrainian Freedom Orchestra unleash the full emotional power of one of the most iconic and best-loved works in classical music. Otl25: Nigel Price & Ashley John Long Play ‘Chops’
Nigel and Ashley celebrate the work of Joe Pass and Niels-Henning Ørsted Pederson. After playing together with Oscar Peterson for some years, Joe and NHOP formed a partnership that, for many people, is the absolute pinnacle of the jazz guitar/double bass duo format. They recorded an album in 1979 called ‘Chops’. Nigel and Ashley will recreate the entire album! There aren’t many musicians out there who would be so brave as to take on this material but if anyone is going to attempt it, it’s these two. Expect fireworks… Nigel Price is a London-based guitarist widely acknowledged as one of the hardest-working musicians in the business. Musically, his blend of flowing bebop lines, deep blues sensibility and his mastery of chording continue to delight audiences and fellow musicians alike. His career highlights include a support show for Gladys Knight at the Royal Albert Hall and an appearance on Van Morrison’s recent album Keep Me Singing. Nigel is a regular performer at London’s Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club where he has made more than 600 appearances. His regular group, the Nigel Price Organ Trio, is widely acknowledged as perhaps the most prolific UK touring jazz band of the 21st century. Ashley John Long is best known as a virtuoso double bassist and composer, active in a diverse range of musical idioms including jazz and improvisation, early and contemporary chamber music, and as a soloist. He has performed and recorded internationally with some of the UK’s leading jazz musicians, as well as accompanying visiting international artists, whilst his work as a soloist has seen the premieres of numerous new works for solo bass.
Young Musicians Symphony Orchestra: Sibelius, Gipps & Strauss
The Young Musicians Symphony Orchestra returns to Cadogan Hall for its first concert of the season with Ein Heldenleben, conducted by James Blair. The work is a dazzling display of Richard Strauss’ ability to tell a story through music, in this case seemingly portraying himself as the hero. Sibelius chose to cast his country rather than himself in the starring role of his tone poem, Finlandia, which opens the concert. Ruth Gipps’ Horn Concerto is a family affair, written for her son as a showcase of his virtuosity. There is no doubt this will be on display once more in young star Annemarie Federle’s performance. The Young Musicians Symphony Orchestra (YMSO) is the only symphony orchestra in the UK dedicated to providing free orchestral training, performance experience and professional development opportunities to musicians on the threshold of their professional careers.
Young Musicians Symphony Orchestra: Suppé, Tchaikovsky & Berlioz
In the second concert of its 2025-26 season, the Young Musicians Symphony Orchestra presents a dynamic programme of music by Suppé, Tchaikovsky and Berlioz. The evening opens with Light Cavalry Overture, a lively and spirited introduction by master of the operetta, Franz von Suppé. Georgian pianist Salome Jordania joins the Orchestra to perform Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1, a powerful work that balances the virtuosic demands of the soloist with the powerful presence of the orchestra. The second half of the concert is dedicated to Symphonie fantastique, Berlioz’s vivid exploration of obsessive love and the supernatural. Under the direction of conductor James Blair, this concert offers an impressive display of both technical precision and emotional depth, highlighting the versatility of the Orchestra and the enduring appeal of Romantic orchestral music. The Young Musicians Symphony Orchestra (YMSO) is the only symphony orchestra in the UK dedicated to providing free orchestral training, performance experience and professional development opportunities to musicians on the threshold of their professional careers.

Encouraged by its success, the friends uploaded more clips of a capella hit covers and original music, recorded from their home in Skellefteå, Sweden, and as one or more of their children were often in attendance during the filming, they posted them under the self-explanatory name Dad Harmony. The natural, down-to-earth authenticity of their videos soon won them millions of fans, making them the biggest new artist on the platform, and the media started to take interest, including Kelly Clarkson, who invited them to join her on her TV sofa. Record label interest was also alerted, leading to the release of several singles and an EP. In 2023, Dad Harmony stepped on stage for the first time as a group and proved that they were much more than just an online phenomenon, delivering a show which incorporates brilliant vocals and exciting choreography, while recreating the intimate ‘living room’ atmosphere of their videos. Their initial dates in Sweden sold out immediately, as did their recent 24-date debut tour of Germany, Austria, Switzerland and the Czech Republic. Now Dad Harmony are ready to introduce themselves to the UK with their debut live appearance at Cadogan Hall. Don’t miss this opportunity to find out why five modest, regular guys from Sweden have taken the world by storm! Doors 6pm. Stage times to be announced.
