Lizz Wright

Lizz Wright

15 Nov 2026 - 15 Nov 2026

Through an inimitable voice that the New York Times touts as ‘a smooth, dark alto possessed of qualities you might associate with barrel-aged bourbon or butter-soft leather’, acclaimed vocalist Lizz Wright sings with a soaring reflection of the cultural fabric of America. She lies beneath the script of human history transcending social divides with an offer of love and a deep sense of humanity. Her music accepts the beauty of reality and a collective experience of belonging. For the listener, Wright’s songs embody a tradition that allows us to always feel at home. Wright culls inspiration from her Southern upbringing in Georgia where she was the musical director of a small church in which her father was the pastor. Gospel music, and the call and response singing with the church congregation, informed her first brushes with music while she would soon traverse the Great American Songbook on her path to an illustrious singing career. At the age of 22, Wright made a name for herself nationally as a vocalist with a touring concert tribute to Billie Holiday, where her poised performance stole the show. At 23, she signed with Verve Records for the release of Salt which topped Billboard’s contemporary jazz charts. Her subsequent albums (Dreaming Wide Awake, The Orchard, Fellowship, Freedom & Surrender) continued to top the charts with her single ‘Lean In’ (from Freedom & Surrender) landing on President Obama’s 2016 summer playlist. Produced by Americana icon Joe Henry, Wright’s latest full-length studio recording, Grace, reveals the web of deep-running roots of story and song that bind together the vastly diverse traditions that are the soul of the American South. In 2022, Lizz Wright launched an independent record company, Blues & Greens Records, with the release of Holding Space, a brilliant live album capturing a concert in 2018 in Berlin. Wright’s label venture is designed to forge an innovative business model where artists are positioned to build sustainable and wholesome careers. After 20+ years of major and indie label contracts, Wright sees the imbalances of power and unfairnesses in artistic ownership. Blues & Greens Records creates a healthy ecosystem for Wright, and inspires her to imagine and develop offerings for emerging artists. Her debut release, Holding Space, becomes the first master recording she owns.

Diaries of Note: Live on Stage with Shaun Usher & special guests In this special event, Shaun Usher – bestselling author of Letters of Note and founder of the live series, and cultural phenomenon, Letters Live – brings Diaries of Note to the stage. A cast of acclaimed performers will read from a remarkable collection of diary entries, spanning centuries and offering windows into lives both extraordinary and everyday. Actor and poet Lucas Jones and Elizabeth McGovern joins the lineup, with more to be announced. Few things offer a more intimate glimpse into a life than a diary. Across time and place, people have turned to the page to record fleeting moments, and to capture personal thoughts, feelings and comments from their inner world, not intended for public consumption. From the private reflections of figures such as Nelson Mandela and Frida Kahlo, to lesser-known voices whose words are no less affecting, these fragments of lived experience reveal moments of vulnerability, humour and quiet revelation. Thoughtful, moving and often unexpectedly funny, the evening offers a rare opportunity to encounter the written self – and to reflect on the value of recording our own lives. Recommended age: 16+ Please note that all artists appear subject to availability. Artists listed are correct at time of going to publication. CAF 2026: Blue Plaques Talk Back

18 Sept 2026 - 18 Sept 2026

Blue Plaques Talk Back Live returns to the Chelsea Arts Festival following the riveting launch event at the Festival in 2025. This unique, immersive, live show celebrates four iconic – or intriguingly overlooked – blue plaques, chosen specifically for their connection to the surrounding neighbourhood. The result is a performance of history and culture, brought vividly to life. At each event, stories behind the plaques are transformed into short, dramatic performances by professional actors. These theatrical moments are then followed by in-depth, informal conversations with distinguished guests – figures whose lives or careers have been shaped, inspired, or touched by the individual commemorated on the plaque. Last year Sir Stephen Fry joined Hannah MacInnes in conversation about Oscar Wilde, Dennis Morris on Bob Marley, Lyse Doucet on Martha Gellhorn, and Kathryn Hughes on George Eliot. Blue plaques and guest speakers to be announced. Blue Plaques Talk Back is produced by Storystock Sounds whose Blue Plaque audio tours take listeners around Chelsea, Belgravia and Mayfair. CAF 2026: An Evening with Bernardine Evaristo & Friends
An evening exploring the richness of women’s writing, curated and hosted by one of the UK’s most celebrated writers and literary figures, Bernardine Evaristo, recipient of the Women’s Prize for Fiction Outstanding Contribution Award. Bringing together exceptional writers, both established and exciting new voices, to discuss their work, the evening features readings performed by acclaimed actors, bringing these words to life on stage. Audiences will encounter new writing, hear powerful stories, and discover the breadth of voices shaping contemporary literature. Moments of humour, reflection, insight and surprise will weave through the evening, creating a truly special, one-off experience. Bernardine Evaristo is the Booker Prize-winning author of Girl, Woman, Other and Mr Loverman, as well as the memoir Manifesto: On Never Giving Up. Her work spans fiction, poetry and criticism across a career of more than 40 years. In 2022, she became President of the Royal Society of Literature – the first writer of colour and second woman to hold the role – and she is Professor of Creative Writing at Brunel University London. A longstanding advocate for inclusion, she has championed Black British writing throughout her career. The Women’s Prize Outstanding Contribution Award was a one-off literary honour marking the 30th anniversary of the Women’s Prize for Fiction in 2025. This prestigious accolade, funded by Bukhman Philanthropies, celebrates Bernardine’s body of work, her transformative impact on literature and her unwavering dedication to uplifting underrepresented voices across the cultural landscape. One of the most prestigious literary awards in the world, The Women’s Prize for Fiction was established in 1996 to counter the notoriously male-dominated shortlists of other literary prizes. Winning novels such as On Beauty, The Song of Achilles, Home, Half of a Yellow Sun and Hamnet have gone on to become modern classics, cementing the Women’s Prize for Fiction as a leading authority in contemporary writing. 2026 will be the third year of The Women’s Prize for Non-Fiction, after Naomi Klein’s Doppelganger won the inaugural prize in 2024. The Women’s Prize Trust is a charity improving access to, and appreciation of, women’s writing for all readers, providing an awards platform that supports brilliant writers and role models while nurturing an engaged, global community of readers and writers. This event is part of the 2026 Chelsea Arts Festival.

Improvising all possible directions, they explore an eclectic sonic universe where boundaries between genres blur. In a shared journey, this duo opens up an intense soundscape where rawness and poetry continuously merge.
Andy Sheppard Trio + Norma Winstone And Kit Downes
A double bill show from the Andy Sheppard Trio and Normal Winstone & Kit Downes The Andy Sheppard Trio marks an unprecedented encounter between master saxophonist Andy Sheppard, Italian jazz icon pianist Rita Marcotulli, and one of the most prominent bassists on the European circuit, French bassist Michel Benita. Three highly individual musicians, each of whom has played a significant role in shaping what we now recognise as the sound of European jazz. In this new trio, Sheppard has the opportunity to develop an entire programme of new compositions, taking a spirited and fresh approach to his writing for the project - honouring jazz tradition while allowing space for interpretation through the unique voices within the trio. One of Britain's finest and most versatile vocal talents and lyricists, Norma Winstone became a notable figure on the British jazz scene during the sixties when she shared the bill at Ronnie Scott’s with Roland Kirk. Since, she has regularly collaborated with the likes of Steve Swallow, Kenny Wheeler, and Dave Holland amongst others, and became known for evolving her own wordless approach to improvisation. Together with pianist Kit Downes, Norma will bring her poetic sensibilities to new pieces by Downes as well as compositions by Carla Bley, Ralph Towner, and John Taylor, alongside fresh perspectives on two traditional tunes, ‘Black Is The Colour’ and ‘Rowing Home’. Presented by Serious. 5+. Under 14s must be accompanied by an adult.

The line between classical and jazz blurs across the evening, with pieces you’ve heard your whole life scored in a way you’ve never imagined. Where you’d expect strings, you get screaming trumpets. Where you’d expect stillness, you get a groove. Whether you love classical, jazz, or just brilliant musicians doing something nobody has done before, this is for you. Marking the launch of Out of Print, and Louis’ last UK solo appearance for the foreseeable future, it promises to be a once-in-a-lifetime concert from one of the world’s most original brass voices. The Chris Rea Experience

6 Nov 2027 - 6 Nov 2027

The Chris Rea Experience Experience this stunning new show curated by Paul Casey, celebrating the iconic music of his long-time collaborator, Chris Rea. The Chris Rea Experience is a critically acclaimed, expertly crafted production showcasing the greatest hits from the 40‑million‑album-selling artist’s remarkable career. Fans of the late Chris Rea can now enjoy a rare opportunity to witness his music live, like never before, as Casey and his band ‘Rea-imagines’ the classic hits. The new show honours Rea’s legacy in a way that could only happen on the back of their decades-long relationship and features hits such as ‘Fool If You Think It’s Over’, ‘Auberge’, ‘The Road To Hell’, ‘On The Beach’, ‘Let’s Dance’, ‘Stainsby Girls’, and many more. In late 2024, Paul Casey suggested to Chris Rea that he wanted to put together an all-star band of musicians to play a night of Chris’ music at the Derry Jazz Festival, but only if he had Chris’ blessing. “Pauly,” Chris said, “you always have my blessing.” Paul was gifted Chris’ own touring amps and the final stage set of five signature blue guitars. The show is not imitation, but something far more meaningful: an authentic tribute to Chris Rea’s body of work by someone who knows this music from the inside, has co-written parts of its history, and brings it to life with heart and soul. All tickets are priced at £40 – book early and secure the best available seats. Recommended age: 7+ Duration: approx. 2 hours (incl. interval)
