One of the most lauded singer-songwriters of her generation, Dar Williams has been captivating audiences with her sheer elegance and honesty in her folk-pop songwriting since the early '90s. As documented on her last album, the 2012 In The Time Of Gods,, Williams’ growth as an individual over her almost two-decade-long career has gone hand-in-hand with her evolution as an artist. She has toured with such distinguished artists as Joan Baez, Patty Griffin, Ani DiFranco, and Shawn Colvin. Lucy Wainwright Roche opens the show.

Originally from New York, Richard Shindell now divides his time between Buenos Aires, Argentina and New York’s Hudson Valley. He is a writer whose songs paint pictures, tell stories, juxtapose ideas and images, inhabit characters, vividly evoking entire worlds along the way and expanding our sense of just what it is a song may be. Starting his career in New York City, he has now released a number of much lauded albums including Reunion Hill and Somewhere Near Paterson. In 1998, Shindell joined forces with his friends Dar Williams and Lucy Kaplansky to record an album of covers under the guise of Cry Cry Cry which further enhanced his reputation. His songs have attracted many fans including Joan Baez who has covered his song, Reunion Hill, as well as touring with Show of Hands who are great admirers of his talents. Nape Necks knotted rhythms and the intersecting/overlapping vocal shouts from all three band members bring to mind Scissor Girls or Erase Errata, who also drew inspiration from the spiky tension of first wave UK post-punk and translated it through the more wild and free tendencies of DNA-descended downtown art-noise. Clipped morse code rhythms and sharply punctuated lyrical declarations join forces with delirious, snaking guitar and duelling vocals which push against steady bass throb and stark, calculated beats as Nape Neck walk the tightrope between chaos and calm. Steely Don is an 11 piece band based in the North of England, dedicated to playing the music of Steely Dan and Donald Fagen. The aim of the band is to deliver authentic performances of the back catalogue from the classic albums of these highly regarded musicians and songwriters, who produced music that blended elements of Rock, Jazz, Latin, R&B, Soul and Blues. Expect to hear the hits Reelin in the years, Do it again, FM, Josie, Peg, Rikki dont lose that number, Kid Charlemagne..as well as a selection of deep cuts and classic album tracks. The band are highly experienced musicians and are all massive fans of Steely Dan. Its an on-going labour of love to recreate the music as faithfully and accurately as possible. This is a tribute band.

All the way from Canada, Dennis Ellsworth returns to the UK with his brilliant four piece band. One of Canada's most respected songwriters, he has collaborated with people including Josh Finlayson and Andy Maize (Skydiggers), Gord Downie (The Tragically Hip), Donovan Woods, Rose Cousins, Leeroy Stagger, John Smith, and David Barbe (Drive-by Truckers / Sugar). Signed to Tonic Records and Cymba Publishing his music has appeared in tv shows for Netflix, CBC, HBO and the award winning film, The New Romantic, and on stage he is absolutely magnetic. His recent albums Modern Hope and Hardcore Freewheelin' gained many accolades and have been nominated in the prestigious East Coast Music Awards.

These days, David Ford feels much more at home operating on the fringes of the music business, not trying to be famous, not trying to get rich. It might be an unconventional way to conduct a musical career, but this is not a conventional guy, as evidenced by his most recent album, Animal Spirits, a surprisingly accessible, even soulful collection of songs about economics. As an artist Ford still defies classification or comparison. Singer-songwriter doesn’t begin to cover it. He writes and performs with fluency across multiple genres, plays every instrument on the stage and even invents new ones to create truly unique recordings and performances. Every live show is different. Ford’s trademark one-man loop machine circus grows more complex and audacious every year, but then he is just as likely to show up with a six-piece band, a string quartet, jazz drummer or a choir and his most recent UK tour proved he can be equally compelling sat in an armchair, playing acoustic guitar and telling stories. The result is a live spectacle described by The Guardian as “unmissable”. As well as playing sold-out headline shows on both sides of the Atlantic, he has toured with and supported artists such as Elvis Costello, Allen Toussaint, Ray LaMontagne, Aimee Mann, Sara Bareilles, Gomez, Aqualung, Richard Ashcroft, Suzanne Vega, Augustana, Ingrid Michaelson and Jakob Dylan.

Amy Lou Smith is a singer who reached the Final and placed 7th in Series 16 of Britain's Got Talent. She was aged 42 at the time of her audition and hailed from Tipton which is located in the West Midlands. Smith also worked part time as a receptionist in a sunbeds shop. When asked if she'd performed in front of large audiences before, she stated that she performed at local pubs on weekends. When asked if she'd bought anyone along to support her, Smith stated that she were 30 weeks pregnant at the time of her audition. In her audition, Smith performed 'Listen' by Beyoncé. Amanda remarked 'The moment you started singing I was just covered in Goosebumps', with Bruno adding 'You completely made it your own and the interpretation was like a ray of sunshine'. After her audition, it was revealed by the press that Smith's daughter Aida had been born just hours before her audition was televised on the show.[1] In the Semi-Finals, Smith performed 'And I Am Telling You' from Dreamgirls. Alesha remarked 'You are shining, it was incredible, you blew the roof off and I'm so happy for you', with Simon adding 'There wasn't a single person in the room who wasn't rooting for you and this is the biggest reaction of the night'. She reached the Final after a tied Judges Vote reverted back to the Public Vote. In the Final, Smith performed Reflection from Mulan by Christina Aguilera. Bruno remarked The richness, the depth of your tone it is like smoky velvet [as] it's unique and very very special, with Alesha adding I hope this is the beginning of an amazing journey for you.
