The Rollin' Stoned

The Rollin' Stoned

10 Jul 2025 - 14 Nov 2025

A tribute to “The Greatest Rock’n’Roll Band” the world has seen, focusing on the early part of their career from 1964-1969 including “Jumping Jack Flash”, “Paint It Black”, “Not Fade Away”, & “Satisfaction”. Enthusiastic fans rate the band very highly and those from the Stones inner circle liked them so much, they booked them for a band member’s birthday party! The costumes are shamelessly camp gaudy and fab, the instruments genuinely vintage and the wit irreverent. However, while the tongue is never far from the cheek, it is never to the detriment of the music.

Tristan

Tristan

10 Sept 2025 - 10 Sept 2025

Dutch jazz funksters Tristan return to the Jazz Mix club with a new vocalist Irma Derby and a brand-new album Frou-Frou which is the band's 8th full studio album. Frou-Frou in our case symbolizes fanciness in our music, with the fine combination of creativity and dedication. After all, we feel more comfortable and stronger as a band than ever. We have tried our best to, once again, put in the extra effort and foremost joy of writing and recording new material. The TRISTAN core of the band (drummer Sebastiaan Cornelissen / bassist Frans Vollink and keyboardist Coen Molenaar) has always been keen on inviting different singers throughout the years. That wont be any different on the new upcoming album Frou-Frou. This time we teamed up with Irma Derby, who has, besides an amazing stage presence, been vocally compared to Randy Crawford, Chaka Kahn and Donna Summer. Also guitar-hero Glenn Black is added to the new Tristan line-up. A good example of our link to the soul scene in the UK was the collaboration of keyboarder Coen Molenaar, with Incognito last year. He co-wrote and played on two songs of their latest record Into You. With 12 new tracks in our vocabulary, we got a fresh start on the road, doing what we love dearly: Spreading positive energy through our music, while taking our audience for a ride they won't soon forget. The compositions are fun to play live, with plenty of space to evolve as we go. This has been a crucial part of our style, in order to make each and every concert excitingly unique. Together we've been to so many parts of the world already. Not only can't we wait to come back; We are eager to expand that incredible adventure. www.tristanmusic.eu [//www.tristanmusic.eu]
Ian Stone - Looking for the Wow

Ian Stone - Looking for the Wow

31 Jul 2025 - 29 May 2026

Life can’t just be the humdrum, the mundane and the routine before the inevitable slide to disease, decay and death. Why can’t we sneak in a bit of awesome, a tad of amazing and maybe a smidge of wonderful? A forest canopy opening onto a huge vista would be enchanting for some but my ancestors wandered in the desert for forty years, I think we’ve been outdoors enough. Others get their fix from the spiritual but I’ve been harbouring a grudge against God since my mother stopped me going to Arsenal after my Barmitzvah. Forty nine years ago. ’God will be watching’ she said. Well, at least he got to see the game. The point is, life could be so much better so I’m on the lookout. Come and join me on the hunt.

Dave O'Higgins: Monkin'Around

Dave O'Higgins: Monkin'Around

6 Oct 2025 - 6 Oct 2025

The Opening Show of The 2025 Southend Jazz Festival Dave OHiggins now has 26 albums as leader to his credit. His sound is highly personal and recognisable, with a clear sense of melodic development and adventure. A popular performer with the public, with an excellent sense of pacing and presentation, he has a wide palette from Charlie Parker, Dexter Gordon, John Coltrane and Joe Henderson through to Stanley Turrentine and Michael Brecker. A stunning player in the neo-bop vein, with an apparently effortless flow of coherent ideas, beautiful time and a highly developed harmonic sense. ( - JAZZ GUIDE) Monkin Around is, at its heart, a trio of drums, bass and sax from all around the globe. Luke Fowler (from Australia) on bass, Billy Pod (from Greece) on drums, and Dave OHiggins (of English-Irish-Mexican extraction) on sax. It was born at the Troubadour in Londons Earls Court. Dave had completed a tour in 2019 with guitarist Rob Luft where they played all 70-odd compositions by Thelonious Monk. Not wanting this hard work to go to waste, it was suggested that the trio adopt this repertoire. As Dave explains, With no chordal instrument, it was an interesting challenge that demanded some degree of re-interpretation. Why not enjoy a delicious meal before the show? Two course meal just 12. DOORS: 7:00pm | MUSIC: 8:00pm | LAST FOOD ORDERS: 7:30pm
Simon Evans: Simon Evans is Staring at the Sun
Simon Evans is Back! Waaaay back... With growing evidence that we are living in a Computer Simulation - and a pretty glitchy, off-brand simulation at that - and the approaching watershed of the AI Singularity looming like a weirdly pixelated cumulo-nimbus on the horizon, BBC Radio 4 stalwart and veteran of a quarter century of highly acclaimed stand-up comedy Simon Evans is squinting at an uncertain future, and revisiting the blue remembered hills of his youth.
