Manford's Comedy Club

Manford's Comedy Club

12 Jun 2026 - 18 Dec 2026

A message from Jason Manford: Hello there, Jason here, thanks for stopping by. I've been wondering for a while now, why is local stand up comedy not high up on the list of what people think about doing when looking for a great night out. So where do we go? The local pub for a few drinks? Cinema? Maybe a meal with a loved one or a cheeky midweek quiz with some mates. Some people still go out clubbing at one of those city centre discotheques! (shudders). Even ten-pin bowling is considered higher up than comedy! How can that be? How can throwing a massive rock at ten wooden things be more fun than sitting in a dark room with your friends or partner, drink in hand, watching someone funny tell jokes that make you all laugh from your belly for hours and hours and give you something to talk about all the next day? Well let me tell you this: There is a circuit of brilliant comics in this country who thrive in the live arena and want to make you laugh on a regular basis, so I'm going to tell you who they are. My plan is this: I'm going to carefully select some of my favourite comedians from the circuit and send them to a town near you. Simple! Keep on laughing folks, and remember, there's nothing like live!

Good, because thats the only stuff appropriate enough to include in the blurb. Paul Sinha: 2 Sinha Lifetime

Paul Sinha: 2 Sinha Lifetime

4 Nov 2026 - 4 Nov 2026

Paul Sinha: 2 Sinha Lifetime Paul Sinha returned to the Edinburgh Fringe in 2025 after a dramatic 2023 that saw him booking a ticket to Edinburghs Royal Infirmary half-way through his run. The autumn that followed became a flurry of tests, scans and finally the surgery which set him on the road to recovery. With no small debt to the NHS, Paul celebrated his 30th anniversary in stand-up last year. He is delighted to be touring his latest Edinburgh Fringe show around the UK. '12 must-see comedy shows at Edinburgh Fringe 2025: It seems wrong-headed to describe a much-loved household celebrity as underrated, but theres a strong case for Sinha being exactly that. The contention being that hes (arguably) celebrated for the wrong thing. He may entertain as a Chaser and impress as a quizzer, but he truly shines on stage. Sinha is an absolute worldie of a stand up and the fact hes a bona fide polymath shouldnt dilute that fact. Rolling Stone In short, it is clever. It is honest. It is very, very funny. Broadway Baby An upbeat, quick-witted, wide-ranging, gag heavy comedy show. Sharp and self-deprecating, every gag lands. On the Mic Banging one-liners. Mail on Sunday Dry wit and sharp humour. West End Best Friend As seen on: The Chase, Taskmaster, QI, Would I Lie To You? and The Hit List Age 16+

11 Oct 2026 - 15 Nov 2026

The kids have gone, the house is quiet, and the spare bedroom has become a land grab. Freedom is scary, and Nina is quietly losing her mind while pretending everything is absolutely fine… until it isn’t. After a lemoncake incident, Nina is banned from using heavy machinery. What follows is flirting with priests, turning to witchcraft and recreational substances — and the realisation that empty nesting is less gentle clearing and more violent reinventing. Warm, sharp and self-aware, Nina Gilligan is back with a hilarious, unfiltered celebration of what it means to be a mature woman — standing in the wreckage of self-discovery and hoping there is a recipe that works. It’s not a breakdown. It’s a lemoncake moment.

Mark Thomas: 40 in Stand Up Years

Mark Thomas: 40 in Stand Up Years

18 Jun 2026 - 13 Dec 2026

What?! Mark Thomas has been ‘standing up’ for 40 years? Impossible!! But how old does that make you…? Alas it is true; one of our oldest surviving alternative comics celebrates 40 years at the mic as he takes his brand-new show on the road this autumn. So, here’s what he has done so far in numbers; performed comedy for 40 years, won 8 awards for performing, 4 for human rights work and 1 he invented for himself, made 6 series of the Mark Thomas Comedy Product (Channel 4), written 6 books and 5 play scripts, made 5 series of the Manifesto for Radio 4, made 3 Dispatches for Channel 4, sued the police (and won) 3 times, curated and authored 2 art exhibitions with artist Tracey Moberly and had 1 Guinness World Record for holding 20 protests in 24 hours. If that’s not enough, he’s also walked 724km around the length of the Israel Wall in the West Bank, been credited with changing the law on tax avoidance, started a comedy club in Palestine with Dr Sam Beale and campaigned successfully for things like trade union recognition for cinema workers and getting multinationals to change their practices. You’re right, there’s more, but your attention is running out and we’re running out of space. So, let’s just say he’s generally mucked about trying to have fun and upset the right people…which he is really, really good at. This is a taster menu of political and personal mayhem, jokes, rants and a state of the nation broadcast as he tries to turn ‘what the hell is going on’ into a cogent evening of stand-up.

Rob Rouse: Funny Bones

Rob Rouse: Funny Bones

11 Jun 2026 - 26 Nov 2026

Star of BBC’s Upstart Crow, 8 Out of 10 Cats, The Friday Night Project and Dave’s One Night Stand. Since winning the prestigious Channel 4 So You Think You’re Funny Award at the Edinburgh Festival in 1998, Rob Rouse has toured the world for the last 27 years! Fortunately, over a quarter of a century in ‘the biz’ hasn’t made him (me – obviously I’m writing this) in the slightest bit sensible, and he’s (I am) absolutely delighted to be coming to the SJT. Funny Bones is Rob’s brand-new stand-up show: a relentlessly funny and daft evening of comedy, from a one-man whirlwind who pulls the audience into his craftily spun tall tales with bucketfuls of manic energy, first-class stagecraft, eerily convincing characters, and a barrage of brilliant one-liners.

He'll be touring in Spring 2027, armed with a new book, for an evening of classic hits hilarious conversation and readings from the book itself.

TELLING TALES with ANDREW MICHAEL HURLEY, HOSTED BY JOANNE SEFTON For our last event of 2026 we are thrilled to be joined by a Andrew Michael Hurley, a key figure in the current folk-horror resurgence. Andrews 2015 debut novel The Loney won the 2015 Costa First Novel Award, was The British Book Awards Book of the Year 2016 and was described by Stephen King as amazing. Since then, Andrew has published three novels and a collection of linked short stories. 2019s Starve Acre was adapted into a film starring Matt Smith and Morfydd Clark. His latest novel, Saltwash, came out in 2025. It is set in a dilapidated seaside hotel hosting a gathering of terminally-ill strangers. A tour de force of physiological fantasia . . . Writing of this quality - sensuous, exact, observant - ensures that other scenes, too, pulse with vitality . . . Hurley's gothic storylines send spectres of deathliness through his fictional world. His prose brings it vividly alive Sunday Times As the nights draw in, join Andrew and Joanne for an autumnal evening on the dark side. Well be looking at Andrews stellar writing career to date and discussing how writers can bring a fresh perspective to enduring gothic themes and settings. In the second half of the evening, we will be joined on stage by a small selection of local writers sharing work which resonates with our themes. If you would like to take part in this event as a panel member, please see the Take Part page on our website.
