Budapest Café Orchestra

Budapest Café Orchestra

19 Jun 2026 - 19 Jun 2026

Led by jazz violin superstar Christian Garrick, the BCO evokes vivid images of Tzigane fiddle maestros, Budapest café life and gypsy campfires - plus a few surprises along the way: good enough to make you want to book that holiday down the Danube! They are hard to describe, and as fantastically exciting as they are musically impressive, journeying far and wide across the Balkans and Russia, Klezmer, Romanian Doinas, Hungarian Czardas. Expect surprises, diversions and adventures along the way. Hugely entertaining, with immense skill and profound musicianship. They have won acclaim from fans, fellow musicians and critics alike for their electrifying and entertaining shows.
Josie Long: Now Is the Time of Monsters
A new show about extinct gigantic, charismatic, megafauna from 3-time Edinburgh Comedy Award Nominated Comedian, and very good comedian Josie Long. In these troubled times, in this wicked world, it can feel like apocalypse is everywhere but did you know 11,000 years ago there were some really big armadillos? I’m talking about as big as a car. Really big. And they were vegetarian so don’t even worry about them. Also my daughter has a hamster and I’m not saying distract yourself from everything, but I’m saying he’s also part of everything. Josie is back with a new show about discovery, wonder, extinction and how to walk through a landscape of monstrous disaster. There is also a good tip about silt, guaranteed.

Celebrated pianist Max Mostovetski and distinguished tenor Takahiro Sasaki return from Germany to our Hebridean stage, presenting a richly evocative programme of classical masterworks. At the heart of the evening lies Beethoven’s exquisite ‘Scottish Songs’, Op. 108-an elegant fusion of folk melody and classical form. The performance will be accompanied by insightful commentary from the artists, offering a deeper appreciation of the composers’ lives, inspirations, and historical context. In her eightieth year, Christine wondered if she might create her first show. Who says an octogenarian shouldn’t be working with stepladders, electronics... and water? A performance of persistence and joy, celebrating the beautiful functions and limits of a human body and the desire to make things happen. Assisted by her helper, Calum, Christine manipulates and raps her way along a precarious journey of movement and sound, taking us to surprising places. This is real, what happens along the way we can’t be sure. Just got to keep going! ★★★★ Broadway Baby “Absurd, joyful and breath-taking” For ages 8+ Funded and supported by: Creative Scotland, Luminate, Dance Base, Eden Court, Citymoves
Night Waking

Night Waking

4 Oct 2025 - 31 Oct 2025

An Tobar and Mull Theatre presents the world premiere of Night Walking by Shireen Mula, adapted from the novel by Sarah Moss. Directed by Rebecca Atkinson-Lord A remote Scottish island. A sleep-deprived mother. A grave you were never meant to find. Anna Bennett should be writing a book. Instead, she’s counting the minutes of lost sleep, peeling a toddler off her leg, and Googling ‘Victorian infanticide’ at 3 a.m. Her ornithologist husband is out studying puffins, oblivious. Her sons are running feral. And when she and her eldest uncover something in the garden-something small, something wrapped in wool-it becomes clear that history isn’t just a thing she studies. It’s here. Underfoot. And it won’t rest quietly. Night Waking is a sharp, strange, and darkly funny exploration of motherhood, colonialism, and the ghosts we inherit. As Anna ricochets between present-day exhaustion, historical letters, and a past that won’t stay buried, she is forced to confront what it means to nurture, to protect, and to fail. Adapted from Sarah Moss’s novel by Shireen Mula, this one-woman play is a feat of acting virtuosity-a fragmented, fevered journey through sleepless nights, long-lost voices, and the things that won’t stay hidden. For anyone who has ever craved silence but feared what might fill it. Age guidance: 12+ Running time: 2 hours plus interval.
