The Greek Theatre Players are delighted to be invited back to Copped Hall at this historic and evocative venue, for their nineteenth performance. They will present Antony and Cleopatra, the last and most poetic of Shakespeare's great tragedies; presented in their long-established, traditionally costumed style. It picks up the story begun in Julius Caesar , with the Roman world ruled by a triumvirate consisting of Marc Antony, Octavius Caesar and Lepidus. A clash of personalities and a clash of civilisations abolishes the Roman Republic, gives birth to an Empire and threatens to tear apart history's most famous lovers. Early booking is recommended for this popular event. The play takes place in the Gardens, probably on the West Front but possibly on the Lower terraces and Great Lawn areas. The Gardens are undulating/uneven lawn surfaces with some paths on a sloping surface in some parts. Harpsichord Recital and Conversation with Nathaniel Mander
Nathaniel Mander is an early keyboard performer known for his expressive, elegant and virtuosic style. He trained at the Royal Academy of Music with Carole Cerasi and is recognised as one of the leading keyboard artists of his generation. He has been particularly praised for his performances of the French repertoire and for the music of Mozart. His 2022 recording of Bach's Goldberg Variations received brilliant reviews across the board, and he was awarded the highest accolade by Dutch specialist classical music magazine, Luister. He has performed across the world as both harpsichordist and fortepianist and alongside his poetic and passionate performances he always enjoys introducing the music that he plays in his own personal, light style. Nathaniel will be performing on a harpsichord which is a close copy of the 17th century instrument originally made by the famous Ruckers family which now lives in Colmar. Made in recent years by Andrew Garlick, it has all the modifications made in the late 17th century that put it in the category of the 'expressive double' harpsichord.
