Lunchbreak Piano Recital with Ethan Loch

Lunchbreak Piano Recital with Ethan Loch

11 Sept 2025 - 11 Sept 2025

Ethan calls the programme for this piano recital “From Bach to Ravel – The Voices in my Head” This is a collection of pieces by composers who have been crucial to my musical journey. More than that though, they have been crucial to my development as a person. When I was very young, it was Bach who taught me the logistics of harmony. Through the 24 preludes and fugues I learned the soundscape of music and how that translates onto the piano. Debussy added to that colours and impressions. These things that I have no visual reference to (the moon, fireworks, etc) he painted auditory pictures of. He tells these wonderful stories. Ravel is similar to Debussy but instead of a story he creates a descriptive impression. Chopin on the other hand, is the voice of romantic expressions. He is emotional and expressive. Allowing me to experience so much of life through his music. I have such a strong connection to these composers that I consider them somewhat of a family. I often dream about talking to them at the kitchen table. We discuss many different things. They even discuss things amongst themselves! I carry their voices with me wherever I go. Learning a new composer is like making a new friend. Their way of talking, expressing themselves, even just the way they carry a conversation is unique and special. Presented in partnership with Aberdeen Art Gallery.
Dunedin Consort: Handel, Biber, Bach

Dunedin Consort: Handel, Biber, Bach

16 Oct 2025 - 19 Oct 2025

Step into the intimate sound world of Dunedin Consort—Scotland’s Grammy-nominated baroque ensemble. In this spellbinding programme, four exceptional musicians come together—and stand alone—in a luminous dialogue of voice and strings. Rising star Charlotte Bowden offers up beautifully reflective and philosophical Handel, while violin, cello, and theorbo each take their turn in the limelight. Bach’s mesmerising and forthright third suite for solo cello contrasts with the obsessive tread of Biber’s ‘Guardian Angel’ Passacaglia, the final movement of his astonishing Mystery Sonatas.
