Cowdray Hall

Cowday Hall is a concert venue next to Aberdeen Art Gallery. Following the 2015-2019 renovations, there is internal access to the Memorial Court and thence the art gallery. The hall was gifted to the city in 1925 by Viscount and Viscountess Cowdray.

North Atlantic Fiddle Convention: My First Ceilidh
Never ceilidh-ed but always wanted to give it a whirl? My First Ceilidh is the perfect, fun and friendly introduction to Scottish dancing for children, young people and families. Enjoy simple dances at a comfortable pace under the guidance of a clear and encouraging caller. Children can move freely, learn as they go, and enjoy the buzz of dancing with others, while adults can take part without any pressure or expectation of previous experience. The focus is on fun, confidence-building, and spending time together. Whether you come along with toddlers, teenagers, grandparents, or a mix of all three, the ceilidh is designed to be accessible, sociable, and memorable.
Douglas Stuart: John of John Book Launch
WayWORD are thrilled to host this special event with Booker Prize-winning author, Douglas Stuart to launch his third novel, John of John , following the mammoth success of Shuggie Bain and Young Mungo . John of John is the heartbreaking story of a young mans return home and how the bonds of family life are torn by the weight of expectation. Out of money and with little to show for his art school education, John-Calum Macleod takes the ferry home to the island of Harris to find that not much has changed except for him The event will be followed by a book signing. Ticket holders will receive a 3 discount off the RRP of John of John , subject to availability. Douglas Stuart was born and raised in Glasgow. After graduating from the Royal College of Art, he moved to New York where he began a career in fashion design. Shuggie Bain , his first novel, won the Booker Prize and both Debut of the Year and Book of the Year at the British Book Awards. It was also shortlisted for the National Book Award, and in 2025 was selected by The Sunday Times as one of the best novels of the twenty-first century as well as one of the ten best Booker winners of all time by the Daily Telegraph. His second novel, Young Mungo , was a number one Sunday Times bestseller. His short stories have appeared in The New Yorker, and Love, Hope & Grit, the Imagine documentary Douglas made with the late Alan Yentob, is available on the BBC iPlayer. Douglas Stuart lives in New York. WayWORD empowers young people to produce a cross-arts literary festival in Aberdeen. Celebrating new work and ideas, amplifying diverse voices and breaking down barriers to culture in our community, WayWORD is part of the WORD Centre for Creative Writing at the University of Aberdeen. Women in Nature: Karen Lloyd and We Are Nature Collective
Following recent walks supported by WayWORD, we bring together members of We Are Nature Collective with nature writer KarenLloydto share their work and reflect on their engagements with nature, ecology, and climate and land justice. Lloyd will discuss her latest book, Earthworks: Land and Nature in Uncertain Times, which explores the hidden life of habitats and species including sloths, the rockpool shrimp and the worlds only truly wild horse, while assessing our human impact on the lives of creatures whose survival is deeply intertwined with our own. We Are Nature Collective will share poetry from their first artefact publication, as well as new work they are developing for their second in response to further walks in the North East of Scotland, supported by WayWORD. This event will be chaired by writerMae Diansangu. Our work with We Are Nature Collective is supported by the University of Aberdeen's Impact Fund and the Interdisciplinary Institute. Karen Lloyd lives on the edge of the English Lake District. Her recent book Abundance: Nature in Recovery was longlisted for the Wainwright Prize 2022 for writing on conservation. The Gathering Tide: A Journey Around the Edge of Morecambe Bay (Saraband, 2015) was an Authors Book of the Year in The Observer. Until autumn 2025, Karen was a senior researcher and writer in residence with Lancaster Universitys Future Places Centre and now holds an honorary research post with the Institute of Science and Environment at The University of Cumbria. We Are Nature Collective is a women-led creative group rooted in North-East Scotland. Together the group walks, listens, and creates, exploring the threads between people, place, and planet. The collectives work centres climate and land justice, recognising that the ecological crisis is inseparable from questions of social and economic justice. Through collective walks, creative prompts, and exhibitions, they create spaces where diverse women including those who are racialised, migrant, or living with limited resources can bring their lived experience into dialogue with wider community and policy conversations. Ceilidh at Cowdray Hall in aid of Aberdeen's NSPCC/Childline base
Fundraising ceilidh and raffle for the NSPCC/Childline base in Aberdeen. Come and dance the night away with local ceilidh band "Good Vibrations", whilst raising money and awareness for a good cause. To be held in the picturesque and historical Cowdray Hall, part of Aberdeen's Art Gallery. It is the 40th year since Childline was established in 1986.
