Ed Tudor Pole

Ed Tudor Pole

17 May 2025 - 30 Nov 2025

If you think that punk music should be like a McDonalds burger, ie:- utterly predictable and the same every time then your view differs from Tenpole's! "The spirit of punk has always been there - it's something to do with rebellion, e.g. Jerry Lee Lewis or Keith Richards, just happens that in 1976 they named this spirit 'Punk'.! " say's Ed. Tenpole was glad to find out what he was at last, for he'd been playing guitar and trying to write great songs in that spirit since he was a boy, long before 1976 came along. "Punk is an attitude not a form of music, ask Steve Jones!! Say's Tenpole. " I date back to the birth of punk rock when it was all about being original, create your own look, and before the time when it became a competition to see which band could sound the most similar to another! I've always rebelled against uniformity. If it is just a simple formula then it is not subversive, and if there is no subversion, ladies & gentlemen, it ain't Punk!!" "At the moment Im trying to see how much excitement can be generated with a man, a guitar, & an audiences. If you have to label what I play, call it Rock'n'Roll. Ever onward my fellow being's! Avoid stagnation: whatever else it is, Punk is surely anti-stagnation!" "By the way, all your view's on what punk represents are as true & valid as mine, however different, we all think our opinion is the right one, but who can judge Come and see me play, listen to my stories ,ask me some questions. Im getting good now, but ultimately, it's down to YOU how good the gig is!!"
Subhumans

Subhumans

3 Jun 2025 - 3 Jun 2025

The most amazing thing about Subhumans new LP, is that it doesn't really feel new at all. Crisis Point feels like it could have come at any point in the band's impressive, nearly 40 year career. Part of that is no doubt due to Dick Lucas familiar voice, and his unique half shouted, half sung delivery. Another part has to be that Subhumans haven't had a lineup change since 1983. That continuity clearly has musical benefits. Their rhythmic, propulsive, adventurous sound has never been bound by punk's traditional three chords. Then, of course, there's the ambitious message. Those messages haven't changed much since Ronald Reagan and Margaret Thatcher were on the receiving end of their wrath. Songs against authority and conformity never go out of style, no matter who the president is. While it's tempting to call Crisis Point timely, it's actually timeless. In truth, Crisis Point is a not so gentle reminder of why Subhumans are, and have always been a leading voice in the anarcho-punk movement. These words are important, and these words have power. Opener Terrorist In Waiting has a fast, driving beat and a frightening message. The lead guitar on the only slightly slower Fear and Confusion is clearly emulating a police siren. Information Gap has a less traditional guitar riff, and questions what is really true in the age of fake news. The idea that the powers that be are lying to us is a common theme on Crisis Point. Atom Screen War seems to ponder the state of modern war, while Follow the Leader challenges respecting disrespectful authority. Both are punk ragers. Like all Subhumans records, Crisis Point is going to require the vigilant listener to spend some time reading and considering the lyrics. Strange Land talks about the uneasiness that comes from the country you call home becoming almost unrecognizable. 99% is a memorable anthem for the working class. Punk Machine mocks fake punk bands with the wrong motives. Poison is about how were killing ourselves and our planet. After a brief musical interlude, Thought is Free finishes things up on a high note. It might be the strongest song on a record full of strong songs. The idea being that no matter what happens, nothing is capable of enslaving our minds. It's pretty impressive that Subhumans can attack such familiar subject matter without coming across as cliché or insincere. In fact, they seem as genuinely pissed off as ever. Even with the words being as powerful as they are, the music is still able to match their intensity. It's difficult to find any significant fault with Crisis Point. It's smart and it rips. It's timely, timeless, and will no doubt be among the year end favourites of most aging punks. Hopefully a few of the younger generation will discover them too.
Vincent Flatts Final Drive

Vincent Flatts Final Drive

27 Jun 2025 - 12 Sept 2025

Blues. Booze. Boogie: The Vincent Flatts ethos in three words. If you've seen the Birmingham (UK) band on the road, you'll know exactly what it means. If not, you'll figure it out real fast once you do. Essentially, Vincent Flatts Final Drive is a southern-infused, blues 'n boogie band, with a set that takes audiences from country rock to fast and exciting boogie. But while the music goes through the genre gears, one thing is constant: Steve 'Bertie' Burton's killer voice. After 20 years on the road with the original line up, Bertiewho in the 80s fronted UK rock band Starfighters (support on AC/DC'sBack in Blacktour and Ozzy Osbourne'sDiary of a Madmantour)took time out. He wanted to get away from the temptation that comes with being in a band. The result A fresh perspective, a new approach to life on the road and a bag of great new material. The band actually hail from Birmingham and have toured the USA three times and even appeared at the prestigious Soda Blues Club in Costa Rica, opening for Johnny Winter. Described by Time Out as "Jack Daniels soaked, ZZ Top/Allman Brothers influenced, Confederate rock, boogie & blues", Vincent Flatts take their name from the British motorcycle handlebars. Their music is best described as American roots music, ranging from the New Orleans swamp of Little Feat and southern growl of Omar & The Howlers through to rockin' Hank Williams, anthemic Lynyrd Skynyrd and of course West Texas Boogie. Chicago's roadhouse rocker Michael Katon said of Flatts; "These guys play my music better than I do", whilst after a tour with Canned Heat, Heat's founder member Fito De La Parra concluded; "These guys boogie with the best of them, and some more!" Led by the legendary Steve "Bertie" Burton (Starfighters/E Numbers/AC DC), Flatts include Trevor Burton guitarist Martin Curly, and top session drummer Jamie Little in their line-up. But it is the stetsoned Bertie who is the focal point of the band. "We started this band as an attempt to play the classic American music that radio stations seem to have left behind in the 70's. It's a strange thing, because this music contains elements of rock, Country, blues boogie and funk, and all those types of music are still very popular. ZZ Top are a huge band, Skynyrd still tour the world and we're playing all over the place. So there must be people out there who loves this stuff" The band's new album is their third, and was recorded live in the studio at BBC Pebble Mill studios and is everything you would expect from a good time party band. The band's live show is a good old-fashioned rock & roll powerhouse fronted by one of the most colourful personalities ever to tread the boards. With a mix of Lynyrd Skynyrd; The Georgia Satellites; The Fabulous Thunderbirds; ZZ Top; Omar & The Howlers; Michael Katon; Canned Heat; and Little Feat all gloriously topped by Flatts own classic Southern style rockin', Vincent Flatts Final Drive offer you a take home slice of Americana that you will never forget.
