Print Journey

Print Journey

30 Apr 2026 - 30 Apr 2026

Explore a variety of printing techniques, from using simple objects to creating intricate designs and printing effects inspired by nature. This course is designed for anyone who would like to explore different ways of making art through print. Learn how to use different tools and materials to produce unique prints, experiment with textures and colours, and develop your own artistic style. This course offers a hands-on approach to becoming familiar with an array of print making techniques. Go on - give it a go! Tutor Natasha has developed this 5-week course to be easy and fun - anybody can take part. She really enjoys printing herself and is keen to share her passion with the local art community. This course will cover four different print making techniques, including: Eco Printing - making a relief print using a leaf or flower found outside. We will use colour, and tints and shades thereof to produce a 3D effect in this abstract piece. Cyanotype Prints - usually used in photography to produce Prussian blue prints. In this process we will mix and paint the cyanotype chemicals onto paper before arranging leaves, flowers and sticks collected to create an interesting image. These will be placed in the sun where the chemical will react to the UV rays to produce beautiful unique botanical blue prints. We will also be experimenting to see what other effects we can create. Fruit and Veg Prints - Using real fruit and vegetables, we will be trying out best cutting and printing techniques, working out a good design and find the best result to decorate tea towels. Foam Printing - This might look simple but it does take a subtle hand for a great outcome. Using nature as our muse, participants need to develop a simple, unique design. We will draw the design onto the foam board and use it to print onto our tote bags. In the final week we will embellish our tote bags with beads, buttons and embroidery. Tutor Natasha Deighton is an Animation graduate and former Art and Design Technology teacher. Natasha is currently a potter and new business co-owner of Art with Soul Studio, running various art and craft workshops in the Market Bosworth and Hinckley area.

Philharmonia: Bruce Liu plays Ravel

Philharmonia: Bruce Liu plays Ravel

11 Apr 2026 - 11 Apr 2026

Ryan Bancroft conductor Bruce Liu piano BRITTEN Four Sea Interludes from Peter Grimes RAVEL Piano Concerto in G TCHAIKOVSKY Symphony No. 5 The Philharmonia welcomes outstanding pianist Bruce Liu to Leicester. Ravel’s Piano Concerto in G was inspired by the jazz he heard on a tour of the United States. Ravel frames a serenely beautiful Adagio with outer movements of carefree, effervescent energy. It’s the perfect showcase for the magician’s fingers (Le Monde) of Bruce Liu, winner of the 2021 International Chopin Piano Competition. Tchaikovsky himself said that his Fifth Symphony represented a complete resignation before Fate, but that hasn’t stopped it becoming a firm audience favourite. It opens with the sound of footsteps on the clarinet. A singing horn melody gives the second movement a more hopeful mood, but the fateful footsteps theme returns in the third movement waltz, and triumphs in the stormy finale. To open, Ryan Bancroft – another close collaborator of the Philharmonia – has chosen Britten’s Four Sea Interludes from his opera Peter Grimes. The opera is a compelling observation of gossip and prejudice in a close-knit fishing community whose lives are intertwined with the sea and the weather. The orchestra vividly depicts the difference faces of the sea, from dawn tranquility to a fearsome storm. This concert has been hand-picked by Classic FM as one of their recommended concerts for the 2025/26 classical season.  You may also be interested in: Philharmonia 2025/2026 Season [https://www.demontforthall.co.uk/philharmonia-25-26/]
Philharmonia: Santtu & Benjamin Grosvenor in a Strauss Extravaganza
Santtu-Matias Rouvali conductor Benjamin Grosvenor piano STRAUSS Don Juan STRAUSS Rondo Burleske  STRAUSS Symphonia Domestica STRAUSS Waltzes from Der Rosenkavalier (first sequence) The Philharmonia’s 80th birthday celebrations reach their grand finale – a reconstruction of a 1947 concert conducted by Richard Strauss himself. Strauss was 83, and the Philharmonia just two years old, when he conducted the orchestra at the Royal Albert Hall in a concert of his own works. Santtu, an acclaimed interpreter of Strauss’s music, now steps into his formidable shoes to recreate that extraordinary occasion. Don Juan gets the concert off to a swashbuckling start. A gorgeous oboe solo paints a sensuous love scene, before heroic horns herald the libertine’s final duel. Next, top British pianist Benjamin Grosvenor brings his understated brilliance to Strauss’s Burleske. Strauss wrote this delightful work when he was just 21 – perhaps a sense of nostalgia led him to programme it again in his final concert. The autobiographical Symphonia Domestica is a portrayal of Strauss’s home life with his wife and young child. It’s full of fun and affection (and the occasional squabble), but anything but domestic in scale, calling for an orchestra of around 100 players. Its New York premiere was such a triumph that an entire floor of a Manhattan department store was cleared for two more performances, to a 6000-strong audience. Bringing the Philharmonia’s season to a graceful close, a set of waltzes from the opera Der Rosenkavalier is the delectable dessert of this 80th birthday feast. Philharmonia: Leonidas Kavakos & Kian Soltani
Leonidas Kavakos conductor Kian Soltani cello DVORÁK Vanda Overture  SCHUMANN Cello Concerto BRAHMS Symphony No. 1 Two world-class musicians join forces for a charming programme of classical hits. Schumann’s Cello Concerto remains a beloved favourite in the cello repertoire. The three movements seamlessly flow as one continuous piece of music packed with emotional intensity. Full of tender lyricism, soulful melodies and a daring solo cello part, it’s perfectly suited to Kian Soltani’s "piercingly beautiful tone and utterly pure intonation" (The Times). Brahms’s magnificent First Symphony was many years in the making. And it may never have seen the light of day without the support and friendship of Robert Schumann and his wife Clara – an article by Robert Schumann launched Brahms’s composing career when the three first met, and they soon became devoted friends. The symphony is a 45-minute journey through all the poetry and power an orchestra can conjure. As the starter for his Romantic feast, Leonidas Kavakos has chosen a Dvorák rarity – the overture to his almost-forgotten opera Vanda. It’s a suitably dramatic scene-setter for the story of a heroic Polish queen. You may also be interested in: Philharmonia 2025/2026 Season [https://www.demontforthall.co.uk/philharmonia-25-26/]

Foxtrot was critically acclaimed and became the first Genesis album to make the UK album charts. I definitely don't know what's going on. I'm not even sure I know what's happening anymore. But I cannot wait to come to your town and respect your traditions. I have been on TV over five times. May I divulge a secret? I have purchased a large metal ring. I will use it to keep all of the keys to the city that are given to me by the mayors I impress with my showmanship. Live comedy is straight up amazing because people gather to watch it in a spectacular setting rather than ogling an evil phone screen in some horrid grey dank little corner. Edinburgh Comedy Award winner, Taskmaster champion & surrealist genius Sam Campbell is an Australian comedian who shot to international acclaim after winning the Barry Award for Most Outstanding Show at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival (2018) and the Edinburgh Comedy Award for Best Show (2022). He conquered Channel 4’s Taskmaster Series 16 in 2023 and has appeared on Would I Lie to You?, Never Mind The Buzzcocks, 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown, Guessable, The Russell Howard Hour, Live at the Moth Club, Friday Night Live, Bloods, Fisk, QI and various other comedy panel and sketch shows. He’s also a writer-performer on his Channel 4’s blap "Get Real Dude" and the cult series "Don’t Hug Me I’m Scared". His debut Channel 4 series "Make That Movie!" will be released in 2026. He is also the co-host of the podcast "Lucy & Sam’s Perfect Brains" with Lucy Beaumont.

Shalamar are one of the most successful soul groups of all time, selling 25 million albums worldwide. Formed in 1976, the band enjoyed their first hit single the following year with the Motown inspired medley 'Uptown Festival'. The 'underground soul club' hits continued with 'Take That To The Bank' in 1978, followed by 'Right In The Socket' and the infectious ‘The Second Time Around’, which dominated the airwaves through Autumn 1979. In 1982, the whole world fell under the spell of Shalamar with the release of the Friends album (which sold over on million copies in the UK) and in particular, 'A Night to Remember' – although it was not perhaps the song but the image of Jeffrey Daniel performing the 'Moonwalk' live on British Television for the first time on Top of The Pops that stopped a nation in their tracks. Fast forward 35+ years and the band, still with original members Jeffrey Daniel, Howard Hewitt alongside Solar Records Dick Griffey, daughter Carolyn Griffey continue to thrill audiences all over the world with their stage show. 'A Shalamar concert is a giant party' says Jeffrey Daniel, 'from the moment we step on stage to the moment we finish the audience becomes part of the show - they’re up on their feet dancing and singing along.'

Of course, we cannot give you any story of Kevin without mentioning friendships, and particularly one friendship with Rob Burrow. They have been friends since they were 14 and 12 respectively, and went on to sit next to each other every day in the dressing room throughout 15 years of rugby at the very heart of one of rugby league’s great teams.
