From Lino into Screenprint

2 Jun 2025 - 3 Jun 2025

Date: Monday 2nd and Tuesday 3rd June Time(s): 10am - 4pm both days Tutor: Jeremy Speck Experience: Some knowledge of both printmaking techniques is desirable, but not essential. On this two-day course you will explore how to combine the two printmaking mediums to add texture and more varied mark-making to your prints. On day one we will concentrate on producing linocut images, whether they are merely textures or near completed images, which we will use on day two to construct our screenprint. The focus of the two-days will be upon experimentation and exploring the variety of mark-making possible when working with both mediums.
Capturing Movement In Linocut with Lisa Takahashi
How do you evoke a sense of movement in a linocut printed image? During this workshop you'll be producing one colour linocuts that capture movement. Drawing inspiration from the Grosvenor School and the Vorticists in particular, this workshop will focus on creating images that communicate a sense of motion. You will explore how drawing, collage and stencilling techniques can be used to develop compositional ideas. Once you have a design you're happy with, you'll be shown how to transfer your image to lino. Then, you'll be guided through the cutting, inking and printing stages, and consider how certain cut marks, colour choices and ways of inking can help to enhance the visual impact of your idea. You'll have the opportunity to see how using a Victorian printing press creates a different quality of print to the results achieved when printing by hand. By the end of the workshop, you will have made an exciting new A5 linocut print and a head full of ideas of what you could print next!
