Isosceles presents THE MAN WHO LEFT THE TITANICSHE WAS BEAUTIFUL...SHE WAS UNSINKABLE....SHE WAS DOOMED... On April 15th 1912, the Titanic, the greatest ship in the world, slipped below the frigid waters of the Atlantic. Yet J. Bruce Ismay, managing director of the White Star Line, stepped into a lifeboat and sailed away from the stricken ship, sailed away from his passengers, sailed away from the cries and screams and tears. ‘The Man Who Left The Titanic’ evokes that terrible voyage and asks whether Bruce Ismay only did what any of us might have done in the same circumstances, or should his actions that night consign his name to infamy? Was he a coward, or merely human? This play has toured throughout England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales for a number of years to enormous acclaim.

Dr Anna Groundwater of the National Museum of Scotland will present a lecture on King James V1. The talk will explore some of the objects held in the National Collection and suggest a more three-dimensional understanding of this King whose Palace was in Dunfermline before he travelled to Westminster in London on being crowned King James 1 of England in July 1603.

Professor Michael Brown of St Andrews University will deliver a lecture on one of the most famous battles in Scotland’s history, the Battle of Bannockburn, looking into the reasons it was fought and how the Scots emerged victorious.

Dr Michael Penman of Stirling University will deliver a lecture about the Declaration of Arbroath, a document written by Scottish Barons in 1320 and presented to Pope John XX11 asking him to acknowledge Robert the Bruce as Scotland’s lawful King.

This lecture by Ian Archibald of Burntisland Heritage Trust will tell the story of the search for the wreckage of the Baggage Ferry of King Charles 1st, ‘The Blessing’, that sank in the River Forth in 1633 during the Coronation Tour of King Charles 1st.

Sharron McColl, the Local Studies Supervisor in Dunfermline Carnegie Library and Galleries, will deliver a lecture on one of the world’s greatest ever philanthropists, Dunfermline born Andrew Carnegie.
