Sounding Seas

15 May 2025 - 15 May 2025

Really excellent instrumental trio which blends haunting delicate melodies and hypnotic grooves, taking inspiration from contemporary Scandinavian jazz and post-classical sounds. The trio is built around an unusual father-daughter collaboration between Jemima Evans (piano) and Joe Evans (double bass). Theyre joined by drummer Paul Wigens, formerly of punk-jazz legends Blurt, and half of minimalist Bristol duo Eyebrow. Went down a storm here last year. Very much recommended.

An Evening with Holly Carter

An Evening with Holly Carter

24 Jul 2025 - 24 Jul 2025

Holly Carter is a singer-songwriter and multi-award-winning instrumentalist, one of Bristol's leading fingerstyle guitarists, and one of the UK's only professional female pedal steel players. Ahead of the release of her full-length album "Leave Your Mark" later this year, Holly is bringing an exclusive sneak peek to El Rincon in the form of an intimate duo show with guitarist Joe Wilkins. The evening will be split into two halves: the first will revisit older tracks, fan favourites, and some new instrumental arrangements, while the second will feature the new album played in full for the very first time. Holly and Joe will also discuss everything involved in the making of the album, from the recording methods used to the inspiration behind the artwork. This is a unique opportunity to hear these songs in a stripped-back setting, well in advance of their official release, learn more about the stories behind them and get your hands on some brand new merch (some of it hand-printed by Holly herself!).
