Aqsa Arif: Raindrops of Rani

Aqsa Arif: Raindrops of Rani

21 Aug 2025 - 2 Nov 2025

Aqsa Arif's exhibition Raindrops of Rani uses elements of South Asian folklore to explore themes of fractured identity, displacement, and cultural synthesis through fantasy and world-building. This multimedia installation encompassing film, textile screenprints and sculpture is set against the backdrop of the 2006 multi million pound Sony Bravia television commercial 'Paint' which saw 70,000 litres of coloured paint explode in and over her childhood council flat. Raindrops of Rani draws on the folk tragedy Heer Ranjha and in particular the forced separation of a South Asian Princess who now finds herself in a council flat in Glasgow dealing with the pressures to assimilate in a hostile environment. This is one of two exhibitions Edinburgh Printmakers is showcasing as part of the 2025 Edinburgh Art Festival. Raindrops of Rani is supported by the National Lottery through Creative Scotland’s Open Fund.
Robert Powell: Hall of Hours

Robert Powell: Hall of Hours

21 Aug 2025 - 2 Nov 2025

Hall of Hours explores time through Robert Powell's unique imagery capturing humanity's complexity, grandeur, and folly in intricate and thought-provoking compositions. Inspired by medieval Books of Hours, this multimedia exhibition features prints, sculpture, sound installation and animation, reflecting on how we experience, order and preserve time.  Robert Powell is an Edinburgh-based visual artist whose multidisciplinary practice focuses on printmaking, but extends to sculpture, video, and text. A graduate of Edinburgh College of Art and longstanding studio member of Edinburgh Printmakers, Robert Powell has exhibited widely at home as well as throughout Europe, North America and the Far East. In his career thus far he has been the recipient of several awards including the 2008 John Watson Award, the 2011 Benno Schotz Award from the RSA and the 2013 SSA Engramme Printmaking Exchange prize. This is one of two exhibitions Edinburgh Printmakers is showcasing as part of the 2025 Edinburgh Art Festival. Hall of Hours, supported by New Media Scotland’s Alt-w Fund, is a new body of work that expands on the themes contained within a previous work, Chronoscope, an animated clock co-commissioned by Aberdeen Performing Arts and New Media Scotland’s Alt-w Fund with investment from Creative Scotland in 2022. Robert Powell and Edinburgh Printmakers have continued to collaborate with Mark Daniels at New Media Scotland to realise this new exhibition.
