Ruth Theodore - Live at Everything Good Goes
Distinguished british artist and original folk voice Ruth Theodore has been steadily releasing critically acclaimed studio albums for over a decade. Having started her career as a street busker on Englands south coast, Ruth is now signed to Ani DiFranco's Righteous Babe records and sharing labels, stages and studios with iconic international artists, as a performer, writer and recently co-producer, making her critically acclaimed music alongside long term collaborators; Tony and Grammy award winning producer and bassist Todd Sickafoose, and Swiss-American virtuoso percussionist Mathias Kunzli. Ruths music is inspired by lived experience which makes her a folk singer in essense, but theres a strong sense of playful rebellion in her delivery that embodies hints of 1920s vauderville theatre, buckets of indie punk rock attitude and the relentless lyrical energy of a beat poet. Busking and performing in bars from the age of 14 and then self releasing her first three records on DIY label River Rat Records, Ruth has led a nomadic existence, living between river boats, squats, and artist workshops in East London up until 2020 when she moved to co-run a music venue in the south of England. Theodores music reflects her naturally transient personality. Over her career Theodore has carved a unique and instantly recognizable style that has seen her described as an "Original Folk Voice" in the Guardian; "A master of the long-form" and "An Institution" in FATEA magazine. As well as inviting record deals with London based label Aveline Records and current US based label Righteous Babe Records. Ruth's music and lyricism effortlessly pushes the boundaries of gender and genre.
Nev Clay - Live at Everything Good Goes
Nev lives near Newcastle and until 2018 was a mental health nurse. He's been clarting around the local music scene for 30 years, and once supported Keith Emerson out of ELP. Most of Nevs songs grow from just playing, and the lyrics are mostly just observations and memories, Cuddys Cave notwithstanding. And hes typically self-effacing about how his songs happen. Well, it all goes in, doesnt it,.. the best songs come out of nowhere, I know its a cliche, but it is true. I do think the best ones are the ones where theres not a lot of thought mostly, I find a nice riff because Im playing all the time during the adverts, the guitar is always there. And you get a nice riff and a nice melody. Thats mainly how it starts and then the words fit in with the melody. Nev has a reputation as genuinely lovely and particularly talkative performer, although he doesnt feel compelled to be chatty at every gig. Every audience is different, and you dont know what its going to be like till you get there. So sometimes I have a plan and then I completely change my mind as soon as I arrive. The thing is, because I live alone, I cant stop talking when Im with someone. I spend my whole life in silence, and then I feel myself being over-garrulous. https://youtu.be/fm-96ndr2yE Doors at 7.00pm and music starts at 8.00pm There is seating for up to 60 people, and we'll be set up in a 'cabaret style', with seating and tables for all. The bar will be serving a wide range of drinks but we will not be offering our usual pizzas on this occasion so there's no need to actually book a table.
