Griffin & Collier Plus Emily Keeble

30 Apr 2026 - 30 Apr 2026

Griffin and Collier are a new folk duo from Kate Griffin and Ford Collier, the creative force behind the critically acclaimed global folk band Mishra. Known for award-winning collaborations spanning traditions from around the world, they now turn towards a more intimate sound rooted in the folk music of the British Isles and America. Their music is driven by exceptional instrumental skill and adventurous arranging. Kates boundary-pushing clawhammer banjo draws on the earthy tones of old-time Americana, while Fords expressive Irish low whistle is shaped by contemporary pioneers such as Brian Finnegan and Michael McGoldrick. Together, they create a dynamic tapestry that shifts from hypnotic banjo and driving guitar rhythms to flowing, intricately reimagined whistle tunes, tracing the continuing journey of traditional music across time and place. Support comes from Emily Keeble, whose songs explore memory, love and landscape. Inherently political and rooted in nature, her work draws on folklore and immersive textures to create intimate performances that feel both tender and powerful. Folk at the Chapel Presents La Cozna & Mary Hampton
Sheffield General Cemetery Trust is delighted to welcome La Cozna & Mary Hampton to the Samuel Worth Chapel for a spellbinding evening of contemporary folk. La Cozna bring together Clmentine Ristord (bass clarinet, drone box), Benjamin Garson (electric guitar), Pierre-Antoine Despatures (double bass) and Nicolas Jacobe (vocals). Drawing on traditional French songs collected in the 20th century, the quartet reimagines these works for a modern audience. Once passed in whispers through kitchens and domestic spaces, these womens songs tell stories of love, violence and freedom - rich with humour, drama and poetic intensity. In Ni Nuit Ni Jour, ambiguity and tension run through feverish, immersive soundscapes, alive with desire and darkness. Mary Hampton is a folk singer, musician and composer whose work sits in the space between traditional song and art music. Influenced by Symbolism, experimental chamber music and folk traditions, her writing is at once fragile, desolate and darkly humorous - exploring the tensions between past and present, myth and reality, nature and civilisation. Described as a rare talent (The Guardian) and brilliant and peculiar (Acoustic Magazine), she was awarded a Paul Hamlyn Composers Award by Jarvis Cocker in 2017.
