Glusburn Community and Arts Centre

We are a volunteer-led community arts venue at the heart of the local area. We host a programme of events, concerts and theatre taking place in our wonderful proscenium arch theatre space, plus have weekly classes and activities taking place most days. In addition, we have a selection of rooms all available for hire by anyone. Our aim is to provide a community arts venue with something for everyone.

The Houghton Weavers have been entertaining folk for over 40 years with their unique blend of popular folk music, humour and audience participation. In their time together, the group - comprising Tony Berry, David Littler and Steve Millington - have performed thousands of concerts, recorded over 30 albums, starred in several of their own highly successful BBC radio and TV series, and made countless appearances on other programmes. The Houghton Weavers guarantee a wonderful evening of entertainment suitable for all the family. Their experience in the business together with their style and professionalism ensures that, as their motto says, they always ‘Keep Folk Smiling’.
Mike Peters From The Alarm: Love Hope Strength
It’s been a remarkable career. Mike Peters, frontman of The Alarm, created one of Britain’s best-loved rock bands at the turn of the 1980s. He filled arenas, enjoyed hits with Sixty Eight Guns Spirit Of ’76, and Absolute Reality, and opened for U2 and Bob Dylan. There’s always been much, much more to the man who was awarded an MBE in 2019. Mike’s a multiple-cancer survivor, whose life story is truly inspiring and extraordinary. To coincide with the publication of his self-penned, multi-edition autobiography – also called Love Hope Strength – Mike is hitting the road. Expect acoustic hits, remarkable stories, and an intimate evening with one of rock’s great survivors.

An evening with frontman of the Happy Mondays. This is a fascinating insight into life in one of the UK's most loved bands. Shaun Ryder is from Salford, Greater Manchester, where in 1980 he formed Happy Mondays. The band signed to Factory Records and their releases included the two classic albums 'Bummed' in 1988 followed by 'Pills 'n' Thrills and Bellyaches' in 1990. Later Shaun started Black Grape releasing the album 'It's Great When You're Straight.. Yeah'. Following his achievements with both bands he received the 'Godlike Genius Award' from NME in 2000. Shaun also moved into TV taking part in the tenth series of the TV show 'I'm a Celebrity.. Get Me Out Of Here!' in 2010 where he was runner up. He also went on to have his own TV programme 'Shaun Ryder on UFOs' on The History Channel in 2013. Shaun has recently been a guest on several TV shows including 'Room 101' with Frank Skinner, 'Stars and Their Cars' with Paddy McGuinness, 'The Chase: Celebrity Special' with Bradley Walsh, 'Sam Delaney's News Thing, This Morning and 'Big Star's Little Star'.

Annabel Croft: From Tennis Balls to Glitter Balls
Annabel Croft is a national treasure. After announcing herself by winning the Wimbledon and Australian Girls’ Tournaments in 1984, she went onto represent Great Britain in the Fed Cup while enjoying a glittering career. Moving into broadcasting, she replaced Anneka Rice on Channel 4 Treasure Hunt before moving into the commentary box and working as a presenter and pundit for Eurosport, Sky Sports, and the BBC. More recently, she enjoyed a thrilling run to the final four on Strictly Come Dancing, with dance partner Johannes Radebe. The Stone Roses were an English alternative rock band formed in Manchester in 1984. They were one of the pioneering groups of the Madchester movement that was active during the late 1980s and early 1990s. The band's most notable lineup consisted of vocalist Ian Brown, guitarist John Squire, bassist Gary "Mani" Mounfield, and drummer Alan "Reni" Wren. The band released their debut album in 1989, the self titled The Stone Roses. The album was a breakthrough success for the band.

The Beautiful Couch - Tribute to The Housemartins and The Beautiful South
Emulating two of Hull's most popular exports (apart from chip spice), The Beautiful South and The Housemartins, The Beautiful Couch first formed in 2002, playing all over the country. 'The Couch' have built up a loyal following and a huge reputation in the tribute band world, most recently touring Ireland! Performing around the UK to sell-out crowds for over 20 years, it's now common knowledge that The Beautiful Couch are at the top of the tree, not 'Sitting on a Fence' when it comes down to recreating the magic of Hull's finest. Playing venues such as Liverpool's The Cavern, The Matthew Street Festival, the MKM Stadium, Manchester Bowlers Arena, they also supported Deacon Blue and The Commitments at Humberfest and of course TRIBFEST! The Beautiful Couch will be performing all the hits from The Beautiful South and The Housemartins, including the ones that you thought that you'd forgotten.
