Not The Usual Jam // Free

4 May 2025 - 7 Dec 2025

David (The Orbalist, Hackney Rhythm) hosts a jam that’s open, inclusive, and entirely pay-to-play free. This is a space where synths, sequencers, MPCs, and E-drums meet guitars, basses, keys, and acoustic drums. The magic began when David met Alessandro Corda, a versatile musician, DJ, and producer. Sharing a passion for music and a vision for community-driven creativity, Alex became a key collaborator. From managing the stage to driving improvements behind the scenes, Alex has helped elevate the jam into something truly special. Join us on the first Sunday of every month. Whether you're a seasoned performer or a newcomer, this is your space to explore. Free admission, a safe atmosphere, and a welcoming vibe make it the perfect spot for everyone-keyboard virtuosos, beatmakers, and vocal storytellers alike. Our stage has seen everything: the raw vocals of new singers, the experimental loops of producers, and performances by talents like Charlie Stacey, Qoha, George The Poet, and more. Regulars like Alex Mike The Mic, Freddie Mpanga, Nico (MoorMoor), and others bring their creativity, celebrating progress and fostering growth. The NTUJ session is a sandbox for sonic exploration where genres blur and magic happens. Bring your instruments, drum machines, unconventional gear, and curiosity. Questions? Suave Y Salvaje - Akola Tambo + Chico Majara
A wild night of Latin American music like you’ve never experienced. Suave Y Salvaje is one of London’s first Latin-punk events-a dancefloor journey through tropical rhythms and punk spirit, from the Caribbean coasts of Colombia to the streets of London. Akolá Tambó bring the ancestral, drum-fuelled sounds of bullerengue-an Afro-Colombian tradition rooted in celebration and community. Their trance-like performances stir joy and connection, calling audiences to remember the drum and feel the power of rhythm. Chico Majara blend Latin heat with punk edge, landing with feline grace. Two percussionists drive irresistible grooves inspired by boogaloo and early salsa, while raw guitars and unpredictable stage energy bring swagger, elegance and danger. It’s a cathartic, sassy experience that sets the dance floor ablaze. For one special number, Akolá Tambó and Chico Majara unite-fusing tradition and punk in a once-in-a-lifetime live collaboration. DJ Paskal (Rough&Tough) brings an all-vinyl set shaped for the night, digging deep into gritty garage, salsa, boogaloo, cumbia and beyond. Known for his nights Cool Breeze and Chicha Por Favor, he’ll keep the sweet madness alive till the very end. Presented by Grow, Hackney. This is an 18+ event
New Car Smell (ep Launch)

New Car Smell (ep Launch)

28 May 2025 - 28 May 2025

Notorious Brass - Punks, NEW CAR SMELL, return to their home-turf at Grow to launch their 2nd EP of their new 4-part series. This chapter sees the trio taking their most ambitious and high-paced musical stunts out for a spin. Blending rock, drum and bass and hip hop into a sound that’s fresh, raw and unmistakably theirs, they create something that moves bodies and captures attention through intensity and self-awareness. Born out of a desire to challenge convention, NEW CAR SMELL refuses to be boxed in. Tuba isn’t just for classical. Sax isn’t confined to jazz. Beats don’t need programming. Their sound is alive and unfiltered, shaped by risk and reinvention. Once described as a punk trio disguised as a brass band, their live shows are a masterclass in sardonic energy, precision and breakneck tempo changes. Expect sweaty chaos, sharp turns and dance moves that defy logic. From underground venues like The Jago, Rich Mix and Hootananny to major festival stages at Boomtown and Camp Bestival, NEW CAR SMELL have built a reputation for making music that demands attention and refuses to play it safe.
