Delighted to welcome Liz Hanks to our monthly Attikk Sessions for an intimate night of music. Liz Hanks is a Sheffield-based cellist, composer, and collaborator with a rich and varied career. A longtime cellist for Richard Hawley, Thea Gilmore, and Martin Simpson, her work has been shaped by a diverse range of influences. She has recorded and toured with an array of artists, including Liam Gallagher, Pulp, Smokey Robinson, Cara Dillon, Paul Heaton, and Real World Records sitarist Jasdeep Singh Degun. Her music reflects the breadth of her experience, drawing from minimalism, folk, Indian classical music, and improvisation. Her debut album, Land, is inspired by the natural and local history of her Sheffield neighborhood Meersbrook, blending cello with field recordings to evoke the forgotten landscapes of the area. The album has received airplay on BBC Radio 2 and 3, featured as the soundtrack to a BBC Radio 4 drama, and earned high praiseElizabeth Alker called it "stunning," Mark Radcliffe described it as "really intriguing," and Folk Radio UK hailed it as "an immersive album of depth and subtlety." Beyond the album, Land has been reimagined as an interactive audio walk in the places that shaped it and has been remixed by artists including Jason Singh, Richard Norris, Haiku Salut, and Leafcutter John. Liz brings the project to life in live performances, weaving together cello, looped field recordings, and storytelling to transport audiences into the lost landscapes that inspired her work. Living Matter is a unique album written in response to a set of poems by celebrated poet and fellow Stroud dweller JLM Morton published in her book Red Handed. Born out of a mutual admiration of one another's work, and a friendship fostered in wild swimming, Morton asked Simpson to come up with a live score for the performance of her and writer Emma Kernahans book, Glos Mythos. This collaboration planted the seeds for what would blossom into a full length album, atop plans for Glos Mythos to tour nationally this year. Support TBC
Ron Basejam (Crazy P) - Day Party @ Hagglers Corner
Hagglers Corner invites Ron Basejam (Crazy P) on May 10th for a day party to kick summer off. Ron Basejam is the anagrammed alter-ego of Crazy P co-founder, James Baron. Started as a no pressure side project in 2006, Baron wanted to capture the more diverse and quirky sides of his musical tastes and create underground music with character, personality and humour. Musically, as well as showing his love of disco and House, the project allows Baron freedom to explore more diverse musical avenues and textures. You never know quite what youre going to get from a Basejam production which keeps things interesting in the studio and on the dance-floor. His first 12 release For the People, By the People on Winding Road immediately got noticed for its infectious hook and anthemic vibe and is now considered by some to be a fore-runner to todays slo-mo house sound. Constantly working on material whilst pedaling his wares with Crazy P it wasnt until 2010, when his solo album Deep & Meaningless was released on Yam Whos ISM imprint, that things started to take off. Into my Life off the album was picked up by Gilles Peterson for his Brownswood Bubblers series.Such was his love affair with the tune, Giles could not help dropping it on three consecutive Radio 1 shows. Praise indeed. The project has recently gathered pace and seen a string of original releases for Wolf music, Razor n Tape, Futureboogie, Classic and House of Disco as well as high profile remixes for artists such as Fouk, Lovebirds, Kelis and The White Lamp, amongst others. He has also recently teamed up with Manchesters Neil Diablo for the acclaimed Pedre son Eclat 12 on Futureboogie. A studio match made in heaven they are currently working on New Material. Alongside Ron, we have invited local selectors Anisa and Holon for a day party under the sun on Queens Road.

Ollie Dixon + Phoebe Niamh at Hagglers Corner
Excited to be welcoming back Ollie Dixon after a successful sell out tour earlier this year - for those that missed out last time - you are in for a treat. Ollie is known for blending atmospheric reverb and warm, delayed tones, crafting a sound that is unique and unmistakably his own. Ollie Dixon - in his own words on the creation of his latest single Solace Its genre that we call "cinematic ambient folk" blending our acoustic and electric guitars, drenched in reverb, with drum samples rather than conventional drums, layers of violins and arpeggiated synths. Its a whole new direction for me personally but a path I've been wanting to explore for a while. Solace is the next release of the upcoming EP, Rebirth. Written about finding calm in the chaos, an almost meditative song. I was surfing on the north coast of Cornwall after going through a really rough two year period, with extreme burnout, stress, anxiety, you name it I had it.. I caught a wave and fell.. Getting sucked under I couldn't get back up but whilst being thrown around by the wave, I went from panic to a sense of calm..It was weirdly peaceful under the water once you stop, relax and go with the flow.. for the first time in 2 years I felt a sense of peace, watching the waves crash over head, beads of light shimmering through. Once I came to the surface (probably 30 seconds or less later, it felt like 5 minutes) I chased that same feeling, hoping to fall off and experience it again, but I never did. Or have. Solace was that experience for me, learning to find calm and peaceful moments in the chaos of life, Learning to deal with my thoughts and feelings in a healthier way. Knowing that each day there are moments of peace and clarity, we just have to stop and notice it. Ollie Dixon's is musical escapism in its purest form. Akin to the likes of Ben Howard, his sea-washed roots play a pivotal part in his melancholy yet atmospheric and soul-bearing storytelling. Without a doubt, one of the South-Wests stand out artists Daniel Pascoe - BBC Music Introducing in the South West Ollie Dixon will be joined by Sheffield based Phoebe Niamh. Welsh musician Phoebe Niamh is an experimental multi-instrumentalist based in Sheffield. Captivated by the soundworlds of the harp, Phoebe trained in contemporary, folk and classical styles. She delves into free improvisation on the harp that is influenced by her upbringing surrounded by nature in North Wales. Her self-produced debut solo EP Serendipity is a collection of harp improvisations with electronics. Creating dreamy soundscapes influenced by the sounds of shoegaze, ambient music and minimalism, Phoebe uses her harp and effects pedals to enchant listeners and live audiences.
