Cork City-based singer-songwriter Hank Wedel will take the stage at The Parish Church of St John-at-Hampstead, London for a special concert titled The Time We Share on the 7th of June 2025. Doors open at 7pm with a 7:30pm start time and refreshments will be available for purchase. This unique performance will feature songs from Wedels 40-year musical journey, including tracks that Revd Carol Barrett Ford, Vicar of St John-at-Hampstead, has sung with him over the years. Among them is Speak to Me, a song with deep personal and musical significance.
The Story of Speak to Me
In 1988, a 25-year-old Hank Wedel, an American-Irish musician, returned to Cork City after two intense years performing on the NYC Irish circuit and the Greenwich Village singer-songwriter scene. Upon his return, he reunited with early-1980s Cork busking companions to form the high-energy rock 'n' roll band Princes Street.
The bands 1989 mini-album cassette, The Night John Lynch Lost His Glasses, gained critical acclaim and led them to tour across Ireland, the UK, and Europe. Among the albums tracks was Speak to Me, featuring a powerful guest vocal by Carol Barrett, a young Cork City singer at the time. The song was later released as the B-side of Princes Streets final vinyl single in 1990, capturing the spirit of their era. A video of the song can be viewed here [https://youtu.be/Sg32M338ieg?si=Unk3WERiNFdSxKgB].
Fast forward to 2025, and Hank Wedel continues to split his time between Cork and New York, keeping the music alive. Meanwhile, Carol Barrett Ford has found a different calling as Vicar of St John-at-Hampstead, London, yet she still joins Hank on vocals whenever she visits Cork.
For Hank and Carol, the concert on 7 June 2025 is more than a performanceits a celebration of the time we share in fun and friendship, and the enduring power of a great song!
