Fusing acoustic fragility and pulsing electronica, The Blackheart Orchestra bring together stringed instrument dexterity with 80's synthesisers and clear classical influences. Often mistaken for an eight-piece band on first listen, they are found on stage continuously changing from electric and acoustic guitars, bowed guitar, piano, organ, bass and electronic percussion to vintage synthesisers, omnichord and melodica in a complex choreographed weave of musical moods and textures. One moment their sound is minimal and molecular, the next a mountain-like wall of sound with vast symphonic climaxes. Their four critically acclaimed albums and mesmerising live shows have won them obsessive worldwide fans, plaudits from musical giants and placements on TV commercials and films. Chrissy Mostyn's haunting vocals, the Mike Oldfield-like multi-instrumental playing of Rick Pilkington plus their fearless combination of conventional and unconventional all reflect their self-created universe where art meets sound and words paint pictures that take you with them on their deep musical journey into the human psyche.

Whilst their exquisite instrumentals weave delicate finger-picking guitar and soaring fiddle with a dynamic energy. Produced by award-winning singer-songwriter, Blair Dunlop, the record stands as a testimony to the siblings’ 20 years of music making. Maquee Square Heroes: A Tribute to Fish-Era Marillion
"We are going to play you part of our new album. It will only feature two songs: one called Side One and the other called Side Two." Marquee Square Heroes invite you to relive the moments that made marillion one of the biggest bands in the world Marillion still regularly undertake a series of shows around the UK at Christmas. Take the opportunity to transport yourself back to the very beginning of this Christmas tradition that sits slightly outside many other more traditional seasonal spectaculars. By the end of 1984, Marillion had completed their second album and toured to great acclaim with the Fugazi album. Demand to see the band was huge, and a multitude of pirated bootleg live albums began circulating amongst their fans. EMI decided to release a live "mini-album," available at a reduced price. And thus was born Real to Reel, a live album that really captures the essence and spirit of the band at that time. A few Christmas gigs were then booked, and the Real to Reel Tour was undertaken. No one could have anticipated what would happen to Marillion in 1985. The decision to release Real to Reel enabled the band to concentrate on writing the album that became the biggest-selling of their career: Misplaced Childhood. Achieving Number 1 status in the album charts, it provided massive exposure with top 5 singles chart positions for Kayleigh and Lavender, and a strong chart position for Heart of Lothian too. Kayleigh was only kept from the top of the charts by a worthy charity single. You couldn’t turn the radio on in 1985 without hearing that classic song of lost love and lost opportunities. On this tour, not only did Marillion play an exceptional set of songs from their catalogue, but they also played 17 minutes of the new album live for the first time. It blew those who witnessed it away. This year, MARQUEE SQUARE HEROES will recreate those shows, performing not only a set that reflects that tour, but also the entire classic Misplaced Childhood album, along with other classics not performed on that tour. Tickets will be limited, so buy now to secure your place.

Simon Yates - My Mountain Life

24 Apr 2026 - 29 Nov 2026

A fascinating and humorous evening, acclaimed by both regular theatre patrons and outdoor enthusiasts alike! On the remote Siula Grande in Peru in June 1985, mountaineer Simon Yates found himself in a desperately unenviable position. He was slowly being pulled off the mountain face by his injured partner, Joe Simpson, dangling on the rope 50 metres below. His decision to cut the rope saved both their lives in the epic of survival that followed. With the publication of the book Touching The Void, and later the film and stage play, both climbers became household names. It was an experience that could have put many off the sport of mountaineering - but not Simon. Over 35 years later, he is still a very active exploratory climber and guide, making several expeditions to the mountains each year. From the Arctic to the Antarctic, Alaska to Central Asia there is hardly a significant range that he has not visited. Come along and witness Simon’s tireless journey from that mountain in Peru to some of the remotest on the planet and share with him the drama, excitement and beauty of modern, lightweight alpinism. Told with wit, dry humour and lavishly illustrated with images and film collected on his great climbs.

The Phantom Raspberry Blower of Old London Town
Written by Spike Milligan and Ronnie Barker Adapted by John Hewer Something is rotten in Old London Town... In Victorian England, a rotten, raspberry blower is claiming the lives of the upper-classes. The dark alleyways and moonlit graveyards of London are alive with the repetitive dins of the Phantom. Inspector Corner of the Yard and his faithful sidekick, Sergeant Bowles, are fed up with these din-dins. The case is afoot. Will the Phantom be uncloaked? All will be revealed... particularly if the Phantom uncloaks himself. Immortalised by The Two Ronnies, this Jack the Ripper parody is raspberry-jam-packed with Spike Milligan’s and Ronnie Barker’s love of surreal absurdism, clever puns, near-the-knuckle ribaldry, quick-fire jokes and famous wordplay. Celebrating the 50th anniversary since its original broadcast in 1976, this newly adapted stage play brings the Phantom back to life like never before. Presented by Hambledon Productions with the kind permission of Spike Milligan Productions Ltd and Handles for Forks Ltd.

Alone In Valentine

Alone In Valentine

10 Sept 2026 - 10 Sept 2026

21st century troubadour Joe Martin has brought together a body of work that serves as a bridge between musical generations with his second studio album Alone In Valentine. Taking inspiration from the golden years of Americana and branding it with his own unique stamp. Not only does the music draw heavily from Martin's influences of 70's American country/folk, but the album itself was recorded with Cal Campbell and Cornelius Webb, sons of the legendary Glen Campbell and Jimmy Webb at the Campbell residence in Nashville, Tennessee. Cal Campbell assembled some of music city's finest players to guest on the record Which was mostly cut live over seven days. This album has something for everyone, with songs reminiscent of Tom Petty, Roy Orbison and more contemporary artists such as Chris Stapleton, Jason Isbell, John Paul White and Colter Wall who make up the core of Martin's musical influences. The story of how the Album came to be is one of serendipity, determination and a sprinkle of good luck. Joe was introduced through a mutual friend to Cornelius "Gooseman" Webb at local's bar 'Bastion' in Wedgewood, during his visit to Nashville in 2024. After winning a "beer powered" push up competition against Goose outside the bar, he was invited along with the group for the rest of the evening and picked up an acoustic guitar somewhere along the way. He performed his original song 'Man You Need' that features on the album and wowed Goose with his voice and lyrics. The next day, Cornelius introduced Joe to Cal Campbell. The group hit it off and Joe asked if they would both help produce his next record, they agreed. The wistful title of the album was born during a co-write with filmmaker and songwriter Steve Anderson. Anderson's film making career in LA saw him work with actors such as Jon Favreau, Sean Bean and Billy Connolly and he has most recently directed a documentary film about Nashville's singer songwriter scene called '10 Year Town'. Joe recalls the moment the song and album title came to be. "I took an idea to Steve telling a story of a lonely woman travelling in a Silverado through Southern Colorado down to Texas. Maybe she was running away from a bad relationship, a heartbreak of some kind. In the end, the story took a twist and it is revealed that she is widowed, visiting all the places they said they would visit together, but she is visiting them alone. The final verse reveals the reason, scattering his ashes on the Rio Grande river... It was heavy, but a line that Steve threw out hit me like a train! "Tequila in the evening, alone in Valentine" When I asked what Valentine was, Steve explained it was a place in West Texas (though there are a few Valentines around the States) this one fit into the story geographically. I loved the line. I remember that I kept pacing around the room saying 'Alone in Valentine... what a great line!' I knew then it had to be the album title. When I found out Cal and Cornelius wanted to work on the record with me, I told Steve. Half joking, he floated the idea that we should travel to Valentine to get the artwork and videos. I thought, 'let's go big or go home’, and so, Valentine it was!" Traversing the desert landscapes in a beat up Silverado, they drove across West Texas from El Paso to Marfa. The album artwork was shot at the Texas Valentine Bar in Valentine, population 73. Joe says the mantra of this album is 'made by humans, for humans'. It was done the old fashioned way, with no shortcuts or trickery. In the current world of AI music and overbaring production, creating something in a Pure and old school way is refreshing and should be celebrated. Alone In Valentine is the album you didn't know you needed in your life, but you’re sure glad it is. You can order a limited copy vinyl or CD from joemartinmusic.com

‘Emmeline Pankhurst - Angel or Anarchist?’
Emmeline Pankhurst is one of the most influential and well-known British women to have ever lived. She fought tirelessly for women to have the vote. She was imprisoned several times, and went on hunger strike many times. Having failed to make any impression on parliamentarians for nearly thirty years, she became an advocate of Direct Action. The suffragettes threw stones at politicians, set fire to letter boxes, torched buildings and chained themselves to railings. Although the Suffragettes were eventually successful, many brave women suffered terribly during the fight. Emmeline was not universally popular. Many women believed that if the suffragettes had been less confrontational, the vote for women might have come much quicker.

Ian McNabb

Ian McNabb

9 Apr 2026 - 20 Mar 2027

Singer/guitarist Ian McNabb cannot erase the memory of "Birds Fly (Whisper to a Scream)" from the minds of music listeners. Released in 1984, "Birds Fly" was McNabb's highest-charting single with the Icicle Works in America. In fact, with the exception of minimal alternative radio airplay for "Understanding Jane" and "Evangeline," it provided the Icicle Works' only U.S. exposure, tagging the band with a misleading one-hit wonder label.
