The Corner Room: A unique space hosted by Hope City Church Edinburgh nestled in in the South Gyle Industrial Estate. MARTIN KERSHAW: Martin Kershaw has been a central figure on the vibrant Scottish music scene for more than 20 years. He is in constant demand as a world-class saxophonist and composer, and has held the Lead Alto chair in the renowned Scottish National Jazz Orchestra since 2004. In 2024 he was commissioned to compose a suite of music to mark the Scottish National Gallery John Lavery exhibition. The result was 'Rhapsodies En Plein Air' - 8 pieces inspired by Lavery works, scored for a quartet of stellar Scottish musicians including Kershaw on saxophone/clarinet, Paul Harrison on piano, Graeme Stephen on guitar and Douglas Whates on bass. The premiere performance at the Royal Academy Gallery in Edinburgh on 24 October 2024 was performed to a sell-out audience, and received a standing ovation. MATT CARMICHAEL: Heralded by BBC Music Magazine as "a distinctive new voice in a crowded scene," Scottish saxophonist and composer Matt Carmichael continues to move from strength to strength and grow his reach globally with his powerfully emotive blend of jazz and folk music. Matt regularly performs with his band internationally at venues like Bimhuis, Fasching, Celtic Connections, Ronnie Scott's, and Love Supreme, as well as performing as a soloist and arranger with the Grammy Award-winning WDR Big Band and the Scottish National Jazz Orchestra. Together, they push traditional music forward. Alma, 2025 Danny Kyle Award winners, unite singer-songwriters Anna Cassidy, Marina Rolink and Ellyn Oliver in lush harmony and thoughtful songwriting. The Black Denims and Quick The Black Denims are Scotland’s newest country supergroup. Fronted by Scott McPherson, the band hail from diverse musical backgrounds, blending disciplines of jazz, folk, bluegrass and country. With an emphasis on poetic lyricism and storytelling, the group are known for their energetic live performances. Quick are a self-described newgrass band based in Glasgow with honest lyrics and clean harmonies. They've played a number of high profile shows including Glasgow's Royal Concert Hall and King Tuts Wah Wah Hut. Expect toe-tapping performances while sitting on The Corner Room sofa.
