Acoustic Night with Romy Gensale

13 Aug 2026 - 13 Aug 2026

A great night of music with Romy Gensale The Arts Cafe will be open Generous tips jar for the performer. About Romy: Romas music and songwriting life starts way back in the early 1980s in her home Town, London, with her first band, an all female five piece called Drunk on Cake, playing their own brand of original music at popular independent and thriving venues, such as Camdens Powerhaus and Dingwalls to Brixtons Ace Club, and later finding herself in an 8 piece World Music band called Speaking in Tongues, gracing the stages of the ICA and The Marquee and filling out the Borderline as resident band. Her claim to fame was headlining an evening with support by an extremely talented Tori Amos making her mark on the Uk. Romy later moved to Norfolk for a quieter lifestyle and started to make her own mark on the world when she decided to go solo and begin recording her own music. Ive always been a fan of songwriters who can take a step back from life, really look at it in detail, make sense of it and then turn that perspective into something beautiful. A modern and feistily independent example of such is Romy Gensale Helen Robinson, Sounds Magazine. Romy has since formed a rock fusion band called ROME, taking her self penned music to a new and exciting level, and making waves at venues keen to promote original music. Romywill be offering a selection of her hauntingly beautiful, provocative and enchanting self penned songs in their original format, stripped back down to guitar and voice. https://youtu.be/Y6NE9y9Ciqw Download her songs: www.romygensale.co.uk

THE HOLLOW By Agatha Christie This masterful whodunnit from the Queen of Mystery is a thriller of passion and betrayal. Following in the same universe as 2025s And Then There Were None we present Agatha Christies 'The Hollow. An unhappy game of romantic follow-the-leader explodes into murder one weekend at The Hollow, home of Sir Henry and Lucy Angkatell, arguably Christies finest comic grande dame. Billy & Tim - The Young Offenders

Billy & Tim - The Young Offenders

20 Nov 2026 - 20 Nov 2026

Billy & Time - The Young Offenders Force adversaries to talk and you may achieve peace. What happens when you lock up two sworn rivals on the day of the big match? Fireworks. Then something extraordinary. Winner of the coveted Stage Award for Acting Excellence and hailed with multiple reviews at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, Billy & Tim has been touring for over 20 years and continues to resonate powerfully with contemporary audiences. Alan Chadwick described it as Scottish theatres greatest success story of recent times, while Joyce McMillan of The Scotsman called it one of the shortest and most gripping two-hour shows in current Scottish theatre. While the play begins with confrontation, it evolves into something far more universal. Through blistering humour, raw energy and emotional depth, it becomes an allegory for peace processes across the world a story about dialogue, understanding and the possibility of reconciliation in divided communities. It is a powerful reminder that when adversaries are forced to talk, change can happen. Doors & Bar open from 6.15pm for a 7.30pm start

Newberry & Verch

Newberry & Verch

21 Aug 2026 - 21 Aug 2026

Newberry & Verch Growing up, Joe Newberry and April Verch absorbed traditions of home and hearth in his Missouri Ozarks and her Ottawa Valley of Canada. Although they are on the road much of the year, the two musicians are fond of saying that they are rarely homesick, because their music means they always have a bit of home with them wherever they go. Joe Newberry comes from a family of singers and dancers. He took up the guitar and banjo as a boy and learned fiddle tunes from great Missouri fiddlers. April Verch grew up listening to her Dads country band play for dances in the Ottawa Valley. She started step dancing at age three and fiddling at age six. In a Newberry & Verch show, delighted audiences see first-hand the roots of their music, their love of performing, and their strong musical connection. Original songs join timeless classics. Stories warm the heart, and give audiences a chance to understand where the music comes from. Lively fiddle and banjo numbers combine with traditional dance steps to illustrate happy times when people made their own fun. Known around the world for his clawhammer banjo playing, Newberry is also a powerful guitarist, singer and songwriter. The Gibson Brothers version of his song Singing As We Rise, featuring guest vocalist Ricky Skaggs, won the 2012 IBMA Gospel Recorded Performance Award. With Eric Gibson, he shared the 2013 IBMA Song of the Year Award for They Called It Music. A longtime guest on A Prairie Home Companion, he was a featured singer on the Transatlantic Sessions 2016 tour of the U.K., and at the Transatlantic Sessions debut at Merlefest in 2017. In addition to his work with April Verch, he plays in a duo with mandolin icon Mike Compton. He also plays and teaches at festivals and workshops in North America and abroad. Before launching her professional career, Verch was the first woman to win both the Canadian Grand Masters and Canadian Open Fiddling Championships. In 2000, she formed The April Verch Band, and together they have toured the world, performing in 18 different countries. She has released 14 solo recordings to date, receiving JUNO, Canadian Folk Music and Independent Music nominations and awards for several of those releases. She has also released an instructional stepdance DVD, a book of original fiddle tunes, and a Canadian Fiddle tune teaching method for Mel Bay. Verch was one of 6 fiddlers whorepresented the Canadian fiddle tradition to the world at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver, as part of a segment called Fiddle Nation featured in the Opening Ceremonies. Ever since Newberry & Verch met, and discovered a musical spark that few can match, they have toured across North America, Europe, and the U.K., including Nova Scotias signature festival Celtic Colours International Festival, the Grey Fox Bluegrass Festival in New York state, and Celtic Connections in Glasgow, Scotland. Their 2018 CD, Going Home, was released to wide acclaim. In 2021 they released On This Christmas Day, an album to accompany their annual Holiday Cheer Tour. Whether it is the power of two voices lifted in harmony, or the sound of traditional tunes calling people to get up and move, these two masters of tradition put on an unforgettable show. And, when their feet kick up the dust in perfect rhythm and those two voices become one, Joe Newberry and April Verch make folks remember why this music existed in the first place. Venue and Bar open at 6.15pm Show at 8.00pm
Simon Yates of Touching the Void - My Mountain Life
Simon Yates of Touching the Void - My Mountain Life A fascinating and humorous evening, acclaimed by both regular theatre patrons and outdoor enthusiasts alike! On the remote Siula Grande in Peru in June 1985, mountaineer Simon Yates found himself in a desperately unenviable position. He was slowly being pulled off the mountain face by his injured partner, Joe Simpson, dangling on the rope 50 metres below. His decision to cut the rope saved both their lives in the epic of survival that followed and with the publication of the book Touching The Void, later film and stage play, both climbers became household names. It was an experience that could have put many off the sport of mountaineering - but not Simon. Over 35 years later, he is still a very active exploratory climber and guide, making several expeditions to the mountains each year. From the Arctic to the Antarctic, Alaska to Central Asia there is hardly a significant range that he has not visited. She is now delighted to be bringing it to the stage to share with you. Kate Garners Vintage Songbook features a vast repertoire of both well known and forgotten gems, from folk songs such as Early One Morning, the parlour song with a story Beautiful Dreamer, and toe tapping gems from the 1920s & 30s that Kate first heard on the gramophone which her dad bought her at a flea market when she was 12! Theres plenty of singalong too, from Bring Me Sunshine to Roll Out The Barrel. Hear Kates stories and memories of family parties around the piano and life on the road with Chas & Dave from Margate to Melbourne!
