She has received many plaudits for her live performances and her recorded music. The Musicians' Union said of her debut album in 2019 Singer-songwriter Jo Ashs debut demands that we take notice. Jos balladry is unapologetically dramatic with swooping vocals perfectly suited to her gothic tales". Cambridge Music Reviews commented in 2023 A superb evening of compelling and mesmeric music from this very talented performer. Jo will be joined by Mike Wheatley on acoustic guitar, and The Acoustic Club at Bishops Stortford said in 2024 Jo Ash accompanied by Mike Wheatley are a natural combination. About Steve: My favourite songwriters, those that orchestrate the soundtrack to my life, are Lennon & McCartney, George Harrison, James Taylor, Don Henley, Glen Frey, Billy Joel, Neil Finn, David Gates, Joni Mitchel and Justin Currie. And whilst Im steeped in admiration for contemporary artists such as Noah Kahan, Ed Sheeran, Keith Urban, Teddy Swims, Lewis Capaldi, Maren Morris & Taylor Swift, having spent my formative teens & twenties in a touring 50s & 60s covers-band, my own creative output is unconsciously imbued with a distinctive retro vibe (apparently). I cant shake it off and actually, I no longer fight it. I Am what I am (blah blah). Oh and it would be remiss of me not to unashamedly state that I sooo love The Beatles and Elvis (Presley & Costello!) https://strawhead.co.uk/

Elizabeth & Jameson

Elizabeth & Jameson

21 Nov 2025 - 21 Nov 2025

One of our most popular live music events. Friday 26th April 7-9pm The band will be in the MainHall and accompanied by funky dancing bassist Gafyn Jameson, from Freds House, who adds a wonderful richness to the band live. The venue is wheelchair accessible and the Arts Cafe/Bar will be open throughout the evening. About the band: Hannah Elizabeth and Griff Jameson have joined forces to create an acoustic folk-roots sound which encompasses both their individual musical backgrounds. Hannahs influences are firmly planted in traditional folk-roots, whilst in contrast Griff has formed his musical reputation within folk pop/rock genres. Together, Elizabeth & Jameson arguably offer the best of both backgrounds; this is simplistic, classic song writing at its best - a stripped back harmony-driven sound with acoustic guitar, violin and exquisite vocals. As well as securing high-profile support slots on the UK folk-roots circuit, the duo have built up a strong following after spending the last few years touring folk and acoustic clubs and venues across the UK. Their debut studio album,Northern Shores & Storieswas officially released in 2020 and has been receiving critical acclaim across the acoustic folk-roots community. Recent festival highlights include Cambridge Folk Festivaland the Great British Folk Festival. Elizabeth & Jameson were awarded the NMG Award for best Acoustic, Folk & Roots Act of 2019, and were proud to open four shows for Jools Holland and his Rhythm & Blues Orchestra as part of their 2019 Autumn/Winter tour. The duo's newest EP Dead Ends & Hand Me Downs was released in Autumn 2022 alongside a tour of live dates around the UK. Plans for 2023 include the writing of new material for their second studio album, and a busy schedule of live dates to showcase their new music far and wide!

God of Carnage

God of Carnage

20 Jun 2025 - 20 Jun 2025

GOD OF CARNAGE by Yasmina Reza and translated from the original French by Christopher Hampton Two seemingly civilized couples meet to resolve a dispute after their children are involved in a playground altercation. What begins as a polite, controlled conversation quickly devolves into chaos as the adults true selves emerge. Rezas sharp wit and biting dialogue expose the fragility of social norms and the volatility of human nature. As the evening progresses, the veneer of civility peels away, revealing a primal struggle for dominance, exposing personal insecurities, and dismantling carefully constructed facades. God of Carnage is a darkly comic and provocative exploration of the tensions that exist beneath the surface of everyday life. With a keen eye for the absurdities of human behavior, Reza deftly uncovers the conflict that simmers just below the surface, turning a simple meeting into an explosive examination of our capacity for cruelty, vulnerability, and the breakdown of social order. Join renowned Cambridge company Corkscrew Theatre to examine the thin veil separating civility from savagery. Full bar available on the night. Venue and Bar open at 6.15pm Show starts 7.30pm
