Joshua Burnside

Joshua Burnside

22 Jul 2025 - 12 Sept 2025

Northern Irish experimental folk songwriter and producer Joshua Burnside is something of a regional anomaly. With a brooding, powerful sound echoing artists of places afar and time long gone, his enthralling craft defies local comparison in striving towards an aesthetic as much as visual as it is sonic. Balanced with a diverse palette of sounds, Burnside deftly blends alt-folk and elements of the Irish folk song tradition with South American rhythms and Eastern European influences, whilst introducing synthetic and found-sounds, synths loops and crunching beats to create a stormy world that shifts and swirls perspective like a lingering lucid dream.

Heather Ferrier Trio

Heather Ferrier Trio

12 Sept 2025 - 2 Oct 2025

With captivating musicianship and a sound that is unapologetically her own, Heather Ferrier is a force to be reckoned with. An “engaging talker and magnetic performer” (NARC magazine), the Stockport born accordionist, clog dancer and composer is changing the perceptions of alt-folk on her own terms. Her latest EP Engine for the Sound creates music that sets the accordion free from its stereotypes, and with an extended line-up of musicians, expresses everything Heather stands for using powerful melodies and jazz-influenced harmony. Bold, passionate and enthralling; the EP has been played on BBC Radio 6 music, and well as being favourably reviewed in local and national publications. When performing, Heather is now joined by guitarist Alasdair Paul (Pons Aelius, Jordan Aikin and Quercus) and drummer Adam Stapleford (Ponyland, Yes! Grasshopper). On stage, the trio perform music that is an explosion of groove and melody that embellishes Heather's signature alt-folk style. The combination of Ferrier, Paul and Stapleford's medley of influences and genre-bending collaborations transcends the limits of contemporary instrumental folk music, employing Heather's distinct compositional style to create a show with both emotive and upbeat moments. As well as her solo work, Heather collaborates in the North East with RŪNN, Jon Doran and the Northern Assembly and Jordan Aikin and Quercus.

Pit Pony

Pit Pony

18 Oct 2025 - 29 Oct 2025

Fiercely honest, Jackies lyricism portrays an intense duality and a vulnerability that is instantly relatable. Turning inwards to explore notions of motherhood, imposter syndrome and getting older, while simultaneously outwards through commentary on the cost of living, polluted water, the constant sell on social media and the off menu Starbucks coffee obsession. With the band citing the recent influences of Blue Weekend and Skinty Fia alongside the likes of Can and the soundtracks of Ennio Moriconne, mastering engineer Christian Wright (Wolf Alice, Fontaines D.C., Pigs x7) proves the perfect fit with Chris McManus (Blank Studios) heading up recording & production. Sonically, Pit Pony remain loyal to their roots, noting the influence of regional titans Nadine Shah and The Futureheads and with the ENGLISH ACCENT god damn it reminder on PJ Harveys Uh Huh Her in mind, Jackie Purver stays true to her accent. Dead Stars sees Pit Pony deliver an expanded but yet more balanced and personal conception of their craft. Garth Purver explains that the band were aiming for a more rounded and complete record that showcased multiple sides to us but hung together as one piece of work rather than a collection of separate tracks. While Andrew Jones mentions how the band encouraged each other to pull on those strands and incorporate more of our personal taste in the sound.

Reuben Solo - Someone In This Crowd Will Betray Me
Comedy
I've got a terrible feeling about this show. Like, somehow the whole thing is doomed. I've got this recurring dream where I'm on stage, thousands of miles from home and the crowd has turned on me. There are thousands of them and they are all booing me and Sofia Vergara (Modern Family) is there, and so is Simon Cowell and he's slamming his fist into a red buzzer and the sound splits the air like a gunshot and the ceiling rips open and confetti rains down like debris but the booing only gets louder and louder and louder and louder and then I wake up. And ! realise that all of that actually happened to me.

Love Is Noise

Love Is Noise

4 Sept 2025 - 12 Sept 2025

LOVE IS NOISE is an exercise in empathy, both lyrically and musically. The band’s Century Media debut, To live in a different way, straddles the roughshod riffing and volume of their DIY origins while embracing shoegaze-facing melodiousness, hints of Brit-pop, and a beating (and bleeding) heart erupting from Cam Humphrey’s plaintive vocals. Co-produced by the band with engineer Kel Pinchin and mixed by John Markson (Drug Church, Drain, The Story So Far), To live in a different way is a startling debut album. From the opening track, “Devotion,” where Humphrey’s voice invokes passion and positivity, to the second track, “Soft Glow,” the album’s first single where he croons, “You are the one that shines on me,” before launching into a throat-shredding exaltation of emotion amidst a crushing battery of slashing guitars and battering drums, it’s clear from the onset that LOVE IS NOISE’s heartbeat is a thunderous one. Scott Lavene

Scott Lavene

25 Sept 2025 - 27 Jan 2026

In support of his upcoming single, My Kinda Girl, Scott Lavene has announced an 11 date UK tour throughout September. My Kinda Girl is the third in a series of singles put out this year that will pave the way for his forthcoming debut album in 2019. Born in Essex, Scott Lavene was raised on power ballads, punk and swearing. In bands since his teens, Scott travelled about, scratching out a living with deadbeat jobs trying to find something to cling to. After couple of years in France and a brief stint in New York, including a playing at the infamous CBGB's Scott returned to London and came close to a major label deal with his sordid songs. Instead Scott disappeared on a rusty old boat, a floating shed, for five years. Hiding from the world. Broke and bemused. Solitude and lonely debauchery. After five years of this Scott went kaput, so spent some time in a house for the bewildered where he emerged full of life and songs. A self released album in a band called Big Top Heartbreak led to being signed to Funnel Music as a solo artist. The first single, 'It's All Gonna Blow' has been played by Steve Lamacq on his BBC 6Music show and Scott had a residency at the Brighton Fringe as well as a sell out show at Crofters Rights in Bristol for the 7inch vinyl release show.

Really Big Really Clever

Really Big Really Clever

6 Sept 2025 - 17 Sept 2025

Brighton-based quartet really big really clever have quickly cemented themselves as a vital force in the UK emo and grunge scene. Since their explosive debut in 2023, the band has turned heads with their dynamic sound and relentless energy. Releasing their debut LP via Beth Shalom Records (home to acts like itoldyouiwouldeatyou, Buds., and Regal Cheer) teaming up with producer Tom Hill, the record showcased a seamless blend of grunge, indie, punk, and emo, earning the band a growing legion of fans. Influenced by artists such as Deftones, Reuben, PUP and Violent Soho, the core duo of Jared Tomkins and Jordan Lilford formed the project after the split of their previous band, Gender Roles. Lacking the correct amount of limbs for full live performances, they brought in Brighton scene stalwarts Chris Childs and Sam Perkins to round out the line up, ensuring their onstage energy matched the power of their recordings. Since their formation, really big really clever have played and toured alongside notable acts like Tigercub, Sweet Pill, Have Mercy, Gaffa Tape Sandy, Church Girls, and Family Dinner, solidifying their reputation as one of the most exciting live bands in the scene. 2025 is shaping up to be a landmark year, with the release of their single, “floss is boss” and a string of UK tour dates. With whispers of a second full-length album on the horizon, really big really clever are poised to take their sound to even greater heights. JOY. Present 14+, under 16s accompanied by an adult

Novelty Island

4 Dec 2025 - 13 Dec 2025

Novelty Island \[aka Tom McConnell\] releases third album Jigsaw Causeway on October 3rd, 2025 via Liverpool indies 9x9 Records & Ripe Records. In support, the Jigsaw Causeway tour will be trailing across the country throughout the autumn, calling at Novelty Island strongholds of Liverpool, Newcastle, Leeds, Manchester, Birmingham and London. Inspired by the fuzzed-out, woozy production of Grandaddy, Beck and Boards of Canada, Jigsaw Causeway is a darker collection of surreal, melancholic lo-fi pop songs than previous Novelty Island releases. The album was composed by utilising fragments of music in a variety of combinations, pieced together by McConnell to create his latest body of work. This mighty puzzle began on tape in Aberhosan, then harmonium tracked in Oxford, a brass band captured in Kippax and the record's final stages tracked in Liverpool. The new album artwork also features a papier-mâché sculpture of a train featuring 50,000 jigsaw pieces created by McConnell. His unique papier-mâché animated props bring a unique aesthetic to the striking Novelty Island live show. Novelty Island’s hook-filled dream pop channels surrealism and Northern melancholy through classic songwriting. The project is led by Liverpool-based songwriter and producer, Tom McConnell, who describes the sound as “Paul McCartney having an argument with Bernard Black”. Eclectic songs inspired by childhood, motorways, trains, old televisions, cowboys, space, birds and balloons form their first two albums How Are You Coping With This Century? and Wallsend Weekend Television. Both albums have received great support from Shindig!, MOJO, BBC 6 Music, BBC Introducing and Absolute Radio amongst others. The Novelty Island live band have performed at Glastonbury Festival and toured the UK extensively as a headline act and support to Sea Power, The Pale White, Scott Lavene, High Llamas and China Crisis. Warriors Rise : Allexa Nava + Tom Warrilow
This autumn, Leeds' longest serving jazz promoter Lubi Jovanovic (DJ Lubi) teams up with London's acclaimed jazz talent development organisation Tomorrow's Warriors for a series of three concerts across three months and two venues, showcasing the next generation of UK jazz stars. Each concert features a Tomorrow's Warriors London artist alongside a local Leeds rising jazz talent as support. The concerts will be on Sunday 28th September at The Attic (Maddy Coombs Quartet + Sophie Speed Quintet), Sunday 19th October at Hyde Park Book Club (Allexa Nava + Tom Warrilow's Cinquillo), and Saturday 22nd November at The Attic (Donovan Haffner + Reece Fogg). The RISE showcase series continues on Sunday 19th October at Hyde Park Book Club with Allexa Nava and her band from London, supported by Leeds musician Tom Warrilow Cinquillo. Here's the full info. Hailing from Peru saxophonist, flautist, and composer Allexa Nava has been making waves on the UK jazz scene for the last few years, both as an artist in her own right (performing at Ronnie Scott’s and Jazz In The Round), as well as a member of the all-female Latin ensemble and festival favourites Colectiva (booked in 2022 in Leeds by DJ Lubi). But it is her reputation as a bandleader and composer that is set to soar following the release of her highly anticipated debut EP "No Language" on the influential Jazz Re:freshed label. There is no doubt that the release of "No Language" marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for this emerging talent, whose fresh perspective and technical prowess is ready to breathe new life into the contemporary jazz scene. And it is no surprise that Nava’s recordings have already received radio play both here in the UK and internationally, including Jazz FM and BBC Introducing London, Antena 3 in Portugal, WYEP Pittsburgh in Pennsylvania, and the title track was disque du jour on TSF Jazz in France. A participant on the Tomorrow’s Warriors Emerging Artists Programme, there is no denying that Allexa has already gone on an incredible journey of exploration and growth as a musician. And jazz audiences can feel justifiably excited to see where this journey leads next! “The Peruvian-born saxophonist and flautist has made a mark for herself on the contemporary UK jazz scene - and listening to her debut single, a track from her imminent EP, No Language, one can well understand why.” - Sounds and Colours "With this first EP, Allexa Nava clearly represents what distinguishes Jazz in the UK and in London, namely audacity and assurance" - La Face B "The new nugget of London jazz is from Peru! Young saxophonist Allexa Nava unveils his new EP, modern, beautifully produced, with a powerful alto sound and an often original approach. A dream!" - TSF Jazz, France Tom Warrilow, a 21-year-old drummer and alumni from Leeds Conservatoire, has already made a name for himself in the jazz world. He has studied under a distinguished group of mentors, including Dave Hamblett, Sebastiaan de Krom, and Dave Walsh at Leeds Conservatoire. Previously, he honed his skills at Chethams School of Music in Manchester, where he was mentored by Steve Berry, Les Chisnall, and Iain Dixon. Tom also gained invaluable experience working with the likes of Soweto Kinch and Mark Hodgson at the National Youth Jazz Collective. Tom is the leader and drummer of Cinquillo, a band comprising fellow Leeds Conservatoire students and alumni, including Charlie Folland on alto saxophone, Charlie Wilberforce on guitar, Joseph Frost-Tesfaye on keys, and Jade Smith on bass. The quintet's name, Cinquillo, is derived from a five-note rhythmic pattern rooted in Afro-Haitian influences that spread to Eastern Cuba after the Haitian Revolution of 1791. Their music explores the work of South African jazz legend Bheki Mseleku and saxophonist John Stubblefield, alongside Brazilian and Latin influences, as well as Tom's own original compositions. Tom's musical influences are diverse, blending Latin American rhythms from artists like João Bosco and Mongo Santamaria, with the melodic writing of Kenny Wheeler and elements of contemporary jazz. His music is becoming increasingly known for its adventurous fusion of jazz and Latin grooves, solidifying him as an exciting emerging artist with a unique voice in the jazz scene. This performance is part of Tomorrow’s Warriors’ Warriors Rise initiative, which sees the acclaimed jazz talent development organisation support three emerging Warriors’ artists, including Maddy, across a seven-date run of UK gigs, providing tour planning and marketing mentoring. Warriors Rise is a PRS Foundation Talent Development Network Partner initiative supported by PPL. More about Tomorrow’s Warriors For over 30 years, Tomorrow’s Warriors has played a vital role within its community and the wider music industry and has been credited with literally changing the face of UK jazz. Free access to Tomorrow’s Warriors artistic programme has proved crucial in nurturing the nascent talent and early careers of so many of the most exciting UK artists currently tearing up the international jazz scene including Mercury Prize 2023 recipients and BRIT Awards Best Group 2025 winners EZRA Collective, Moses Boyd, Nubya Garcia, Shabaka Hutchings and Sons of Kemet, ESKA, Jason Yarde, Denys Baptiste, Robert Mitchell, Soweto Kinch, Shirley Tetteh, Byron Wallen...the list goes on. A Black-founded and Black-led organisation, Tomorrow’s Warriors offers a pioneering, free to access, comprehensive programme of learning and training which champions and supports young Black and female talent and those who come from challenging circumstances that would be a barrier to access opportunities to pursue a music career. “Tomorrow's Warriors occupies a unique and vital space in our cultural landscape.
