Philip Sayce

Philip Sayce

19 May 2026 - 3 Jun 2026

A hotshot guitarist who plays a revved-up mixture of electric blues, hard rock, and tough psychedelia, Philip Sayce was born in Aberystwyth, Wales. When he was two years old, his family pulled up stakes and moved to Canada. Sayce grew up in Toronto, where his parents raised him on a diet of classic rock and blues, with a special fondness for Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix, Dire Straits, Stevie Ray Vaughan, and Ry Cooder. Sayce developed a love for music early on and began learning to play guitar on a Sears acoustic given to him by his folks. Sayce started his first band when he was just 15. At 16, he began appearing regularly at Grossman's Tavern, a Toronto venue that featured open blues jams. It didn't take long for Sayce to develop a loyal following on the Toronto club scene. When Canadian blues guitarist Jeff Healey heard Sayce's work, he invited him to join his band. Sayce signed on with Healey's group, and he worked with Healey for four years, appearing on the album Get Me Some and live releases. Sayce moved to California, and he landed a gig with Uncle Kracker, playing in his road band and on the 2002 album No Stranger to Shame. A casual meeting between Sayce and GRAMMY award-winning producer John Shanks led to his next job. Shanks was scouting a new guitarist for Melissa Etheridge, and after hearing Sayce, he recommended him for the job. Between 2004 and 2008, Sayce was part of Etheridge's band and appeared on three of her studio albums, as well as two live releases. In 2009, Sayce released the album Peace Machine. Innerevolution followed in 2010. Ruby Electric (2011) and Steamroller (2012) were produced by GRAMMY award-winning producer Dave Cobb. Sayce toured diligently with his road band, sharing stages with the likes of ZZ Top and Deep Purple. Sayce performed at Eric Clapton's Crossroads Guitar Festival in New York City, and in 2015 Sayce struck a deal with Warner Music. That year he put out his first major-label solo effort, Influence, which was also produced by Dave Cobb. A live album was released in 2016, Scorched Earth. His most recent studio album, Spirit Rising, was released on Warner Music in 2020 and, to date, has over 11 million streams on Spotify alone. Sayce's anticipated new album is scheduled to be released in late 2023 on Atomic Gemini, his own new label.

2 Oct 2026 - 18 Oct 2026

Walter Trout's backstory is a page-turner you won't want to put down. Five decades in the making; it is equal parts thriller, romance, suspense and horror. There are feted early stints as gunslinger in bands from John Mayall’s Bluesbreakers to Canned Heat, and the solo career that’s still blazing a quarter-century later. The veteran bluesman has seen and done it all - plays earth shattering blues rock music. In only a little over a decade, Dan Patlansky has become one of the busiest and most respected blues artists to ever come out of South Africa. After his debut album which garnered Dan a reputation as a Blues-phenomenon, and his subsequent “Readers Choice” vote as “Best Blues Guitarist in Southern Africa”, Dan’s second album was released by EMI on the famed Blue Note label. Dan is one of the only South Africans to ever achieve “Blue Note” status and one of only six Fender endorsed guitarists in South Africa. Dan Patlansky, #1 Blues Rock Album 2016 by Blues Rock Review.

Clinton Kane

14 May 2026 - 15 May 2026

A vocalist with a warm, emotive voice and a passionate style, Clinton Kane developed an audience with homemade videos where he covered his favorite songs before he matured into an expressive, emotionally powerful songwriter. Not afraid to bare his soul or use his lyrics as a vehicle to explore his own issues, Kane's music is full of passionate introspection that doesn't compromise the strength of his melodies. He first reached an international audience as the voice behind Martin Garrix's international smash "Drown," while he opened up his soul as a lyricist on the 2019 EP This Is What It Feels Like and struck a balance between his confessional and tuneful sides on the 2021 hits "Chicken Tendies" and "I Guess I'm in Love."

Annahstasia

Annahstasia

1 Jun 2026 - 1 Jun 2026

"My career has been a lesson in patience," says Annahstasia, having cultivated her musical language between blazes of intimacy and independence across different lives, locations, and iterations, loves lost and gained, expectations evaded and recreated. The rising troubadour's proximity to love for and from others, in society at large, and deeply within herself guides the spirit of her soulful, poetic folk songcraft. Love is the elemental constant, alongside her distinctly resonant voice, shading the singer-songwriter's music since her earliest self-taught recordings, back when a 17-year-old Annahstasia Enuke was discovered and propelled into the pressures of an industry that nearly stifled her greatest strengths. Artistic resilience, gratitude, and dedication to process have yielded Tether, Annahstasia's full-length debut on art-forward indie label drink sum wtr, a collection of beaming torch songs, orchestral hymns, and astral anthems that feel lived-in, drawn from the human experience and the spectrum of love. Annahstasia assembled the pieces of Tether slowly and with deep intention; she's carried these songs with her on the road, sang them for friends and strangers, and evolved them over time alongside her personal revelations. "The song is written, and then I have to live with it and see if I really believe what I'm saying," she explains. She brought material to sessions at the storied Valentine Studios in Los Angeles, joined by producers Jason Lader (ANOHNI and the Johnsons, Frank Ocean, Lana Del Rey), Andrew Lappin (Cassandra Jenkins, L'Rain, Luna Li), and Aaron Liao (Liv.e, Moses Sumney, Raveena) and a range of accomplished musicians, including featured guests aja monet and Obongjayar. The recording became instinctual, done only in live takes to capture the feeling of the room, the community of the music. The sequencing was just as essential; she arrived at a flow with shifting energies and poignant arcs. The instrumentation swells, at times understated and others supremely lush, and through each arrangement, Annahstasia's voice rings true, open-hearted, and free. "I've come into the power of my voice as a medium," she says. "As a tool of expression, I am able to shape the emotional space around me." Lyrically, Annahstasia embraces the nuance of poetry, inviting listeners to engage in words laced with meaning, whether ruminations on romance or social constructs. She sees the opener "Be Kind" more as a poem than a song, "a reflection upon the beauty of the mundane and the grandeur of everyday lifea reminder to myself and others to be kind to each other." The track's minimalist atmosphere picks up where 2024's Surface Tension EP left off, with her vocals left bare and up-front, exploring the capacity of her gift with newfound latitude as strums, strings, and keys enter the frame. The palette expands for "Villian," welcoming drums, brass, and horns into a sweeping nod to healing. "We are all made of both shadow and light. From some angle, we have all been the villain of the story," she adds, suggesting that often, the only way to move on is through understanding that "we are all trying our best, negotiating survival." At its triumphant peak, above gospel-like shouts, she delivers the reprise with a smile: "Take it / Take it back / This dull knife of memory / I still hear your voice inside my head / Says that I'm the villain of the story." Album centerpiece "Slow" emerges from a chance connection with London-based Nigerian musician Steven Umoh, aka Obongjayar. After exchanging DMs, Obongjayar came to one of her shows, and the two artists talked for hours afterward; "he was like a lost brother," she says. Later, they wrote and demoed the track in the living room of her Airbnb in London, where they huddled around a single ribbon microphone. "I'm just playing the guitar, and our eyes are locked; it was very sensual and intense." Emboldened by one another, their voices orbit and coalesce, trading verses on the signals the universe sends us ("I heard it on the wind / To go slow"), harmonizing the last stanzas ("What's the worst that can happen / If we just let it happen"). Without proper album plans at the time, the song sat for a while; then, in another cosmic chance, Obongjayar happened to be in town during the Tether sessions. Annahstasia reflects, "It was a beautiful experience to have us all in the room. The artistry, the moment, a real acceptance of African art where these two Nigerian musicians are coming together and making something very tender and pretty outside genre expectations." Later, Annahstasia finds a kindred spirit in aja monet, the NY-based surrealist blues poet and her new labelmate, who lends stunning prose and voice to "All is. Will Be. As it Was." Given only the prompt of "open air," monet wrote the lines on the ride to the studio. Together with Annahstasia on guitar and Ashley Fulton on piano, they captured the piece in its purest form as if bottling a breeze. Annahstasia described the EP prelude to this culminating set as a "romantic war," and the artist truly thrives amidst and after drama. She taps into a punk sensibility for "Silk and Velvet" "I'd say it's punk in the sense that it is really dry, really stark and selectively dissonant." A clashing of cello and piano mirror pointed lyrics about "living with the hypocrisy of having revolutionary ideologies but consumerist tendencies." The tension comes full circle on "Believer," a song she's been trying to get right for years, now finally recorded in the right place with the right people. Nearly every instrument on Tether returns in full force; towering percussion, jagged guitar lines, and howling singers encircle Annahstasia at the mic as she enters a fantasy of rock stardom. "I love how in making a record, you get to make a film and pick which direction to take it. Now I have this version that I blast in my headphones, play air guitar, and pretend I'm performing it for 100,000 people." The sheer power of Tether is the result of patience, and it's not hard to picture such a dream realized in good time.

Ben Kweller

Ben Kweller

7 Jun 2026 - 11 Jun 2026

Ben Kweller’s seventh studio album, Cover the Mirrors, isn’t just about the loss of his teenage son, Dorian. It’s about…everything. It’s time folding in on itself. It’s a journal only he can really read. It’s an amalgamation of the decades preceding — a storied career that started in Kweller’s teenage years, continued during his days as an early 2000’s indie rock stalwart, and evolved as he grew up into the father of a son on the precipice of his own rock & roll story. Loss and love are woven through it all, yes, but, in the end, it’s about living on.

Texas Is The Reason

Texas Is The Reason

30 May 2026 - 2 Jun 2026

Texas Is The Reason emerged in the mid-1990s as a defining force in the post-hardcore and early emo scenes, blending melodic urgency with emotional clarity at a time when underground music was edging toward broader recognition. Rooted in New York City’s DIY ethos, the band helped shape a sound that would influence countless artists, particularly through their acclaimed 1996 debut, 'Do You Know Who You Are?,' long regarded as one of Revelation Records’ most enduring and foundational releases. Though they disbanded in 1997 just as major-label attention intensified, their brief existence left a lasting imprint that has only deepened over the decades. Following select reunion shows in 2025-including Riot Fest and a headline performance at Best Friends Forever Festival-the band returns in 2026 for an international tour celebrating the 30th anniversary of 'Do You Know Who You Are?,' bringing their timeless catalogue to both dedicated longtime fans and a new generation of listeners. Texas Is The Reason emerged in the mid-1990s as one of the most influential bands of the post-hardcore / early emo movement, blending melodic urgency with emotional directness at a moment when underground music was beginning to break into the mainstream. Based in New York City, the band helped define a sound that would shape an entire generation of artists, while remaining rooted in the DIY ethos of the era. Their 1996 debut album, Do You Know Who You Are?, became one of Revelation Records’ most enduring releases-praised for its clarity, restraint, and emotional weight. As the band’s profile grew and major-label attention mounted, Texas Is The Reason disbanded in 1997, leaving behind a brief but deeply resonant legacy that has continued to ripple through alternative music for decades. In the years since, the band’s influence has only grown. Do You Know Who You Are? is now widely regarded as a foundational record of its era, regularly cited by artists across punk, emo, and indie rock for its songwriting and atmosphere. Texas Is The Reason reunited for select live performances in 2025, including an appearance at Riot Fest and a headline set at Best Friends Forever Festival, drawing enthusiastic crowds and renewed attention. The Cleaners From Venus

The Cleaners From Venus

30 Sept 2026 - 30 Sept 2026

Upset The Rhythm presents THE CLEANERS FROM VENUS Wednesday 30 September Islington Assembly Hall, Upper St, London, N1 2UD 7pm | £18 THE CLEANERS FROM VENUS will be performing this Autumn in London. Martin Newell will be on guitar and piano, joined by Nelson Surfquake Nice - an original member of Cleaners back in the 80s, and half of The Brotherhood of Lizards alongside Martin. The group will be performing some classic Cleaners songs, with a Brotherhood of Lizards cameo-set thrown in! Martin Newell is a purveyor of ingenious pop music. His music is refracted from late 60s rock only shot through with invention from the rough-and-ready explosion of DIY tape releases in 80s Britain. As a songwriter, he's right up there with Syd Barrett and Ray Davies, capturing a peculiar Englishness that's very much his own. Martin started his career in music aged 19 when he joined an Essex glam-rock band called The Mighty Plod as a singer and gigged in rough clubs, pubs and colleges for the next two years. In his early twenties he joined a hard rock/prog band from Ipswich called Gypp and gigged in the UK as well as touring northern Germany several times. In 1979, he won his first record contract and shortly afterwards his first single Young Jobless / Sylvie In Toytown was released, first on an indie label and then with Liberty Records. In the 1980s he formed the anarchic and wonderfully offbeat Cleaners From Venus, who after much defiance of music biz convention, signed to a London record company and began making proper records which were well reviewed and well-received. He began co-writing songs with Captain Sensible in 1986, a relationship which endures to some extent to this day. In 1989 he and his friend Nelson, now of New Model Army formed The Brotherhood of Lizards, were signed to make an album and proceeded to promote it, touring the record by bicycle. This led to many TV appearances and some notoriety and amusement in the media. In 1993, with XTC's Andy Partridge in the producer's chair Martin made what was to become his most successful album The Greatest Living Englishman, hailed by Rolling Stone magazine as a rock classic. Over the last ten years Martin has continued to release exhilarating albums under his own name and as Cleaners from Venus, most recently a winsome new Cleaners album called K7 was released on CD and cassette. A highly-entertaining live act, Martin Newell performs infrequently, refusing nowadays to tour at all. He has been the subject of a highly-praised documentary film Upstairs Planet (2019) which enjoyed premieres both in London and in New York. A second documentary The Jangling Man, the director James Sharp's intimate portrait of Newell's life and work, premiered in London and Los Angeles in October 2022. The Cleaners From Venus track Corridor of Dreams was just featured in the film Smashing Machine. https://www.cleanersfromvenus.com/

Jim Bob

Jim Bob

5 Dec 2026 - 6 Dec 2026

Jim Bob was born to two parents Frank and Jenny. Jenny was a singer, long distance swimmer and speed skater, while Frank was a theatre stage manager and carpenter. So, as show business, showing off and to a lesser extent carpentry was in the blood, Jim set out on the yellow brick road to fame and fortune. Following years of pop struggle Jim would release his first records with the band Jamie Wednesday, whose horn section Jim would work with again fumfty years later as a solo artist (when Jim was reading a book about learning to play the recorder and discovered it was written by Jamie Wednesday sax player Simon). After Jamie Wednesday Jim Bob formed Carter The Unstoppable Sex Machine with guitarist Fruitbat. Together as Carter they would have 14 top 40 singles and four top ten albums (including a number one), selling over a million records and touring the world. With Carter, Jim Bob would become known for his socially aware pop lyrics and in particular his use of puns. Carter split in 1997 but reformed ten years later for two massive sell out, life affirming gigs that would lead to more sell out Carter shows in 2008 and 2009. In 2011 they headlined the Beautiful Days festival in Devon and three more Carter gigs followed in 2012: Glasgow, Leeds & London. Finally in 2014, the last Carter shows were announced: A headline slot at the Bearded Theory Festival, a BBC 6music live performance from Maida Vale and two last hurrahs in London. The 5,000 capacity Brixton Academy gig sold out in minutes. Outside of Carter Jim Bob has had a long and varied solo career. He has released eight albums solo and with his discopoppunk band Jim's Super Stereoworld. Jim's autobiography 'Goodnight Jim Bob On The Road With Carter The Unstoppable Sex Machine' was published by Cherry Red Books in 2004 to critical acclaim. Jim has written songs for Ian Dury and for the 2006 Barbican production of Mark Ravenhill's Dick Whittington & His Cat, directed by Edward Hall and starring Trigger from Only Fools and Horses. In August 2010 he made his Edinburgh Fringe debut in the Ward and White musical 'Gutted, A Revenger's Musical'. His seventh solo album 'A Humpty Dumpty Thing' came with a mini novel 'Word Count', which Jim adapted as a screenplay for a Hollywood production company. His eighth solo album 'What I Think About When I Think About You' was recorded with 26-piece The Mystery Fax Machine Orchestra. Jim Bob has written four novels; 'Storage Stories' (Ten Forty Books), 'Driving Jarvis Ham'(Harper Collins), the award winning best seller 'The Extra Ordinary Life of Frank Derrick, Age 81' (Pan Macmillan) and its follow up 'Frank Derrick's Holiday Of A Lifetime' (Pan Macmillan), published under the name J.B. Morrison and translated into French, Italian, German and Dutch.

Ms Banks is far from complacent. After 10 years in the music industry, she's ready to take the next leap and raise the levels. Staying true to her roots as the daughter of West and East African immigrants and redefining what it means to be a Black British artist, Banks aligns herself with trailblazers such as NSG and J Hus who have raised international fanbases on authentic sounds and storytelling. Having travelled the world and performed on some of the biggest stages, Ms Banks has seen the music landscape change. But instead of following trends, she's creating her own lane, proving that you can be both vulnerable and fearless, bold and thoughtful. She wants to inspire others to do the same, reminding us all that there's strength in embracing who you truly are, flaws and all. Presented by Metropolis Music. This is a 16+ event.
