The List

King's Head Theatre

A notable pub theatre which was started by Dan Crawford in 1970, and run by him till his death in 2005. It seats 110, a number which grew in stages of development. Productions often transferred to the West End. The theatre opposed currency decimalisation and retained LSD prices for decades. It has a resident company, OperaUpClose. Over the years performers included French and Saunders, Joanna Lumley, Alan Rickman, Richard E Grant, and Sir Ben Kingsley. In August 2017 it was announced that the theatre would move into a space, with double the capacity, in the neighbouring Islington Square development.
