The John Hackett Band embodies the spirit of progressive rock. From John's pastoral flute textures, through the funky interplay between drummer Duncan Parsons and bassist Jeremy Richardson to the intricacies of Nick Fletcher's lead guitar the group embrace pop, rock, jazz, classical, funk and all stops in-between, from the tenderest of ballads to hair-raising instrumental workouts! John Hackett has been a much-loved and admired figure in the progressive rock scene since the mid-70's; best-known for his flute work with his brother, former Genesis guitarist, Steve Hackett on albums such as Voyage of The Acolyte, Sketches of Satie and Please Dont Touch. Nick Fletcher is probably the best jazz rock guitarist in the country. His fluency is astounding, plus he possesses a first rate classical guitar technique to boot! I consider Nick Fletcher to be an absolute star Steve Hackett The band have never sounded better, and they are musically as tight as a drum skin at present. The Bar-Steward Sons of Val Doonican

26 Sept 2025 - 30 Jan 2026

Founded in Barnsley Rock City in 2006,The Bar-Steward Sons of Val Doonican are on a mission! Far from being your typical folk ensemble, this cult-like collective of like-minded knit-wear enthusiasts are determined to follow in their spiritual fathers immortal footsteps and keep his legacy alive. Scott Doonican and his brothers-from-other-mothers, Dave Doonican, Dr. Mo-Jo Doonican and Reight Reverend Jeremiah Rickenbacker Doonican III, have quite the talent for Bar-Stewardizing other famous peoples songs with new satirical comedy lyrics, on folk instruments, and to complete their outrageously understated image, the Doonicans have become instantly recognisable for their immaculate hair and their stylish choice of sexy knitwear, and instantly memorable for their lairy, no-holds-barred, anarchic live shows. A group that is both perpetually on the move, ever-evolving and joyously independent, they have played close to 1350 side- splitting shows to date, and have brought smiles and belly- laughs to audiences across the UK; from Barnsley to Barnstaple, from Glastonbury to Glasgow. They continue to wow audiences with a fine selection of their greatest hits, including the likes of Jump Ararnd, The Lady In Greggs, "How Deep Is Your Glove?", "Paint 'em Back", "Goat Yoga", and If I Could Punch A Face... Itd Be Justin Biebers. After countless sellouts at the Lantern over the last 17 years, The Bar-Steward Sons of Val Doonican cant wait to bring their circus back to Scott Doonican's self-proclaimed "favourite venue on the planet" and they promise that they WILL rock you... but gently!

This is one of a series of events organised by RoughDraftAudio, promoting live music in Sheffield. If you'd like to find out more about other events, sign up to the newsletter at https://www.roughdraftaudio.com/music/signup.htm Heather Findlay Known for her magical, evocative voice and an ability to interpret and inhabit a range of styles with a mix of power and feeling, Heather Findlay is one of the finest vocalists working in music today. Prog magazine lauded her, Deliciously sultry vocals, whilst Maverick magazine hailed her, Pure, crystalline voice. She grabs your heart in an almost vice-like grip. She has earned her stripes and honed her craft over the years, turning a natural love of music into a stock in trade, with never a dull moment along the way. Heather Findlay was born and bred in Yorkshire. Brought up in a very musical household, where the radio was never off unless the turntable was spinning, from an early age the foundations for Heather's future career were laid.At the age of 18, Heather was studying Art at college and, as well as spending increasing amounts of time experimenting in recording studios, took the plunge and started performing her own small gigs around York. Following one such gig, having seriously impressed founder member Bryan Josh, 19 year old Heather was asked to join up and coming rock band Mostly Autumn. She was delighted to accept and, during the 13 extraordinary years that followed, Bryan and Heather went on to share much creative success, writing and recording many albums together. The band toured internationally throughout that time. In January 2010, however, Heather made the tough decision to part company with Mostly Autumn and to launch a solo career. Heather recalls, In 2010, I really felt ready to break out in a solo capacity and experiment with different styles and work with different people. I knew it wouldnt be easy to establish a solo career whilst continuing to fulfil my role in Mostly Autumn as I had also given birth to my first child in October 2008. Something had to give and my growing passion to explore other avenues won. Heather's appreciation for all forms of music has never left her, and Heather has relished the chance to team up with a huge range of contemporary artists. She has performed guest vocals with Ritchie Blackmore, Jethro Tull, Fish, John Wetton, Uriah Heep, Shed Seven, Iona, Troy Donockley, and with Marillion's Steve Hogarth as a guest singer on Lonely Robot. With Ayreon, Heather has sung live and in the studio alongside James LaBrie of Dream Theater; Opeth's Mikael Akerfeldt, Irene Jansen and Anneke Van Giersbergen of VUUR and UK rock band Thunder. 2025 has seen the release of her new fully solo album Wildflower, and touring in support of it. https://www.blacksandrecords.com/heatherfindlay https://www.instagram.com/heatherfindlay.creative https://www.facebook.com/HeatherFindlay.Music Duncan Parsons An ex-pat Southerner living in Sheffield, Duncan will be playing tunes from his various albums, taking in songs about Ladybird Books, Children's TV, The Green Cross Code Man, and Robots.. ..a slightly more assertive Nick Drake.. ..sounds like something beamed in from an earlier, more innocent musical era.
