25 years on from the release of The Seahorses’ seminal album Do It Yourself, acclaimed vocalist Chris Helme will revisit the iconic record with a series of one-off acoustic performances across the UK throughout 2022. Formed by Stone Roses’ guitarist John Squire, the English alternative rock band released their first and only album in 1997 to an outpouring of adoration from fans at home and around the world. The album reached number 1 and number 2 in the Scottish and UK album charts respectively, made the top 40 in countries including New Zealand and Sweden, and defined a moment in time for hundreds of thousands of people. The album’s success quickly led to a string of high-profile shows including tours with Oasis, U2 and The Rolling Stones and a spectacular performance at Glastonbury. The Seahorses were regular contributors to some of the most coveted Friday night TV slots going, with unforgettable appearances on Top of the Pops, Jools Holland and TFI Friday. It wasn’t long before Do It Yourself went platinum, selling 300,000 copies in the UK alone. The Seahorses never released another album and ever since Do It Yourself connected with the British public in the 90s, this debut record has continued to mean so much to so many. This year, Chris is set to take audiences back to 1997 and the era of Brit-pop classics as he performs the impactful album from start to finish, in a way rarely heard before. Watch as Chris lovingly brings the memorable album’s cherished tracks back to life, including Love is the Law – which reached number 3 in the UK and number 1 in the Scottish singles charts and has racked up more than 8.2 million streams on Spotify, and Love Me and Leave Me, which was Liam Gallagher's first ever songwriting credit. Chris, one of the finest singer-songwriters on the circuit today, has gone on to enjoy an established solo career. His “dreamy but driven indie folk” (Q Magazine) and blistering voice, which continues to stop audiences in their tracks, has garnered ongoing critical acclaim and he is readying a new solo album for release in 2023. Join Chris Helme as he marks the 25th anniversary of Do It Yourself with acoustic performances of this iconic album for the very first time at much-loved venues across the UK.

Easy Skankin’ & African Night Fever Presents: Adrian Sherwood Meets Mad Professor – Live Dub Show
Adisciple of Lee "Scratch" Perry, Mad Professor stands as one of the leading producers in dub reggae's second generation. His Dub Me Crazy albums helped dub make the transition into the digital age, when electronic productions started to take over mainstream reggae in the '80s. His space-age tracks not only made use of new digital technology, but often expanded dub's sonic blueprint, adding more elements and layers of sound than his forebears typically did. In the mid-'90s, he returned to the basics, debuting a more retro-sounding style on the Black Liberation Dubseries. Additionally, he runs his own studio and label, Ariwa, which has been a home to a stable of vocalists (with an emphasis on lovers rock and conscious roots reggae) and some top shelf British reggae productions. As his reputation grew, he became a remixer of choice for adventurous rock and techno acts, most notably revamping Massive Attack's entire second album under the new title No Protection. Mad Professor remained productive as the decades wound on, working in the realm of reggae and beyond, with production credits as wide-reachingas work for Sade, the Orb, Perry Farrell and many others. Mad Professor's solo output continued as well, with solo sets like 2009's Audio Illusions of Dub, and collaborations like 2019's Mad Professor meets Gaudi or the 2023 soundclash style release Mad Professor Meets Channel One Sound System Round Two. For more than three decades, Adrian Sherwood has been consistently breaking new ground and his name is celebrated by anyone with any interest in dub, reggae, post-punk, industrial, bass music and experimentalism. As the founder of the cult and fiercely independent On-U Sound label he has brought the attention of artists like Tackhead, New Age Steppers, Gary Clail, African Headcharge, Dub Syndicate and Creation Rebel to international attention. Unsurprisingly a musician’s musician, Adrian’s production credits include everyone from The Slits to Nine Inch Nails, Depeche Mode to The Fall, Blur to Einsturzende Neubauten, Primal Scream and many, many more.

Bambara

Bambara

28 Apr 2025 - 3 Sept 2025

One thing you won't be able to avoid on Bambara's Stray is death. It's everywhere and inescapable, abstract and personified - perhaps the key to the whole record. Death, however, won't be the first thing that strikes you about the group's fourth - and greatest - album to date. That instead will be its pulverising soundscape; by turns, vast, atmospheric, cool, broiling and at times - on stand out tracks like 'Sing Me To The Street' and 'Serafina' - simply overwhelming Bambara - twin brothers Reid and Blaze Bateh, singer/guitarist and drummer respectively, and bassist William Brookshire - have been evolving their midnight-black noise into something more subtle and expansive ever since the release of their 2013 debut Dreamviolence. That process greatly accelerated on 2018's Shadow On Everything, their first on New York's Wharf Cat Records and a huge stride forward for the band both lyrically and sonically. The album was rapturously received by the press, listeners and their peers. NPR called it a 'mesmerising...western, gothic opus,' Bandcamp called the "horror-house rampage" "one of the year's most gripping listens," and Alexis Marshall of Daughters named it his 'favorite record of 2018.' Shadow also garnered much acclaim on the other side of the Atlantic. Influential British 6Music DJ Steve Lamacq, dubbed them the best band of 2019's SXSW, and Joe Talbot of the UK band IDLES said, "The best thing I heard last year was easily Bambara and their album Shadow On Everything." The question was, though, how to follow it? To start, the band did what they always do: they locked themselves in their windowless Brooklyn basement to write. Decisions were made early on to try and experiment with new instrumentation and song structures, even if the resulting compositions would force the band to adapt their storied live set, known for its tenacity and technical prowess. Throughout the songwriting process, the band pulled from their deep well of creative references, drawing on the likes of Leonard Cohen, Ennio Morricone, Sade, classic French noir L'Ascenseur Pour L'Echafraud, as well as Southern Gothic stalwarts Flannery O'Connor and Harry Crews. Once the building blocks were set in place, they met with producer Drew Vandenberg, who mixed Shadow On Everything, in Athens, GA to record the foundation of Stray. After recruiting friends Adam Markiewicz (The Dreebs) on violin, Sean Smith (Klavenauts) on trumpet and a crucial blend of backing vocals by Drew Citron (Public Practice) and Anina Ivry-Block (Palberta), Bambara convened in a remote cabin in rural Georgia, where Reid laid down his vocals. The finished product represents both the band's most experimental and accessible work to date. The addition of Citron and Ivory-Block's vocals create a hauntingly beautiful contrast to Bateh's commanding baritone on tracks like 'Sing Me to the Street', 'Death Croons' and 'Stay Cruel," while the Dick Dale inspired guitar riffs on 'Serafina' and "Heat Lightning" and the call-and-response choruses throughout the album showcase Bambara's ability to write songs that immediately demand repeat listens. While the music itself is evocative and propulsive, a fever dream all of its own, the lyrical content pushes the record even further into its own darkly thrilling realm. If the songs on Shadow On Everything were like chapters in a novel, then this time they're short stories. Short stories connected by death and its effect on the characters in contact with it. 'Death is what you make it' runs a lyric in 'Sweat,' a line which may very well be the thread that ties these stories together. But it would be wrong to characterize Stray as simply the sound of the graveyard. Light frequently streams through and, whether refracted through the love and longing found on songs like 'Made for Me' or the fantastical nihilism on display in tracks like the anthemic 'Serafina,' reveals this album to be the monumental step forward that it is. Here Bambara sound like they've locked into what they were always destined to achieve, and the effect is nothing short of electrifying.

The Young'uns

28 May 2025 - 28 May 2025

The Young’uns’ live shows are renowned roller coaster rides. With heart-on-the-sleeve storytelling, beautiful lyrics, warm harmonies and relentless repartee, Sean Cooney, Michael Hughes and David Eagle (the award-winning stand-up comedian) write and sing folk songs for today. Born from empathy, crafted with care, fired by hope, and shared with joy, The Young'uns' songs have been described as ‘a heartfelt secular hymnary for these troubled times and a rallying call for humanity’ (The Scotsman). They have led the band to three BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards (including Best Album in 2018 for Strangers) and the creation of the acclaimed international theatre show The Ballad of Johnny Longstaff (based upon their 2019 album of the same name). Nearly 20 years after accidentally stumbling into the alien world of their local folk club as drunken teenagers, (and gaining their cureless name in the process) these three thirtysomething friends from Stockton and Hartlepool have never lost the joy of that first night of singing together. Whether performing in front of 5,000 people at Glastonbury Festival, writing a song about pigs with a group of school children, or presenting a programme on BBC Radio 4, Sean Cooney, Michael Hughes and David Eagle are just the same. 2022 sees The Young’uns launch their Tiny Notes project. Each date of their April tour will feature a live recording of audience choruses for their forthcoming album, with the band urging everyone to discover the joy of singing together that they found one night as teenagers in Stockton-on-Tees.

Misty In Roots - 50th Anniversary Show
THE LONDON INTT'L SKA FESTIVAL PRESENT: Misty In Roots - 50th Anniversary Tour We are delighted to announce that reggae legends - Misty In Roots will be celebrating their 50th anniversary next year with a series of releases, club and festival appearances, that includes their long-awaited return to Brighton. Misty In Roots first came together in 1975 as a backing band for the late, great Nicky Thomas - one of Jamaica's all time greats who had achieved national chart success with Love of the Common People, and have gone onto be one of the finest reggae acts the world has seen. A fact born out emphatically in the BBC 6 music documentary by Don Letts. Commonly known as John Peel's favourite reggae band (who they record a staggering 9 BBC Radio One sessions for!), they were also major force in the Rock Against Racism movement. By 1978 Misty In Roots began to develop their own orthodox roots reggae sound. Their powerful lyrics inspired by the economic decline, a growing awareness of their African culture and a spiritual awakening born out on the band's stunning debut album Live at the Counter Eurovision, which is cited as one of the greatest live reggae albums ever. During the period 1977/78 the political situation in the U.K. was a breaking point. Black consciousness was at its peak and racism roamed the streets of London. Unemployment was affecting both black and white youths and through this depression a new musical alliance was born, young white youths totally fed up with the status quo turned to playing punk music whilst at the same time identifying strongly with the British reggae acts as Misty In Roots, Steel Pulse, Linton Kwesi Johnson and Aswad. With the coming of the 'Rock Against Racism' movement the musical fight-back had begun and for the first time black and white musicians were playing together on the same platform bringing about a totally new concept in musical awareness. This opened up a whole new audience for the band who quickly developed a very strong cross over audience, playing with acts such as Tom Robinson, The Ruts (who's debut release Misty funded), The Specials and Elvis Costello. The band's second album Wise and Foolish released in 1982 took on more mellow, jazzy and soulful tone. Driven by their determination to remain independent the band took a major step into Africa spending nine months in Zimbabwe and Zambia. The period had a major impact on the development of Misty's following two albums Earth (release in 1983 - a moving musical documentation of the devastation caused to mother Earth by mankind because of greed, cruelty and ignorance) and Musi O Tunya (released in 1985 was a reflection of the band's love for Africa). 1989 saw the release of their fifth album Forward which saw Misty reach the heights once again. Now, entering their 50th year, we can look back over the works of Misty In Roots and see how immense the combined talents of this cooperative group are, producing uplifting righteous music for all to hear. They are quite simply one of the greatest reggae bands who are still phenomenal live.

James Campbell’s Comedy 4 Kids: Reducks
James invented the idea of proper stand-up for children in 2001.  For the last ten years he has mainly been concentrating on writing funny books and parenting his own children. Now he is bored of that and returns to the world of festivals to reboot comedy for kids with a face full of wrinkles and a reconstructed show that may include exploding penguins; seventeen ways to eat jam; and songs to sing to the worms in your dog’s bottom.  This show is twice as funny as anything you’ve seen before so cover yourself in glue, roll around in glitter for five minutes and then come to the show shouting, “I’m a massive disco maggot!” until someone asks you to leave.

Esther Manito: Slagbomb

Esther Manito: Slagbomb

25 May 2025 - 27 Feb 2026

Esther’s new show ‘Slagbomb’ takes a nosedive into the awkward sandwich years of life. The phase when youthful freedom gives way to the reality of adult responsibilities. It’s a time when one finds oneself juggling everything from prostate checks to hosing faeces off the garden decking, whilst clad in questionable footwear like crocs. Growing up, Esther imagined she would fulfil all the expectations of a lady, poised and dignified, but looking around she realises that just hasn't happened. Esther's life seems to be a magnet for embarrassing moments and endless cockups. No matter how hard she tries to project sophistication, she often ends up highlighting her unrefined side. Now she wants to embrace her lack of dignity - whether it’s her less-than-graceful posture, cringeworthy encounters with shady drug dealers, or the painful realities of waxing gone wrong. At its core, Esther’s show is an exploration of the challenges and hilarities of navigating the sandwich years, and an invitation to the audience to feel good about the madness in their own lives. After all, she has a Lebanese father dealing with war, a mother dealing with cancer, two kids (who seem to have permanently lost their PE kit), a husband who just wanted some birthday nooky, and a sudden loss of hearing. It’s all part of the messy, chaotic, and often hilarious journey of a right Slagbomb.

The Burning Hell is the alter-ego of Canadian songwriter Mathias Kom, and the band has been on the road in one form or another since 2007, playing everywhere from festivals like Glastonbury and Dawson City to bars, living rooms, abandoned bunkers, and a mental asylum in rural France. Musically, The Burning Hell runs the gamut from introspective folk to hyperactive rock and roll, and so the band can adapt to its surroundings like a karma of anthropomorphic chameleons, taking the audience on a supermarket-cart ride through hooky, upbeat pop songs, dark ballads about pet euthanasia, and anthems for barbarians, economic conferences, and love.

The Young’uns 20

28 May 2025 - 28 May 2025

Much-loved folk trio, the Young’uns, celebrate 20 years of singing together. One night in Stockton-on-Tees, three teenagers heard strange sounds coming from the backroom of a pub. They went in. They heard people singing songs they’d never heard before. Songs without instruments. Songs in their own accents. Songs about places they knew. Folk songs. They joined in. Because they were the youngest ones there by several decades, they were soon labelled ‘the Young’uns.’ 20 years on and they’ve carried their unfortunate name around the world, from Sydney to Vancouver, from Radio Tees to Radio 4, won three BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards and gained a reputation for singing life-affirming songs of social conscience in immaculate three-part harmony. As well as their 20th anniversary, Sean Cooney, Michael Hughes and David Eagle will each be celebrating their 40th birthdays on tour!
