It's A Mystery!

It's A Mystery!

8 Jul 2026 - 8 Jul 2026

It’s a Mystery! A hilarious and moving exploration of the enduring appeal of murder mysteries “I suppose you’re wondering why I’ve gathered you all here this evening.” Tim Benzie, the acclaimed creator and host of Solve-Along-A-Murder-She-Wrote presents his now one-man show, a funny and engrossing deep dive into the appeal of murder mysteries. The audience are summoned to the drawing room as Tim takes on the role of detective, examining the clues that drew him to the genre as a child, a journey from Scooby Doo and Encyclopaedia Brown, to German mystery-puzzle books via reading the entire works of Agatha Christie as a teenager. Along the way he draws connections between obsessions with detective films, the TV series Murder, She Wrote and his current Solve-Along show. There is a tenacious theory that in times of societal strife, murder mysteries surge in popularity, and Tim unpacks the notion via stories of his own troubled times, to determine not just why there is a detective in all of us, but ultimately what is the mystery that we’re all trying to solve. Funny, touching and showcasing the delight in pop culture minutiae that has made Solve-Along-A-Murder-She-Wrote a cult hit, It’s a Mystery! will appeal to fans of the genre and anyone who’s ever wondered whodunnit (and why). It’s a Mystery! has played to critical acclaim at the 2023 and 2024 Edinburgh Festival Fringe and the Bread and Roses Theatre London in 2024 and was performed in New York and Australia in 2025.

It’s hard to think of a band more operating on their own terms, more outside of any sphere of influence, and more still alive than the Rifles. 'Singles Collection' is a retrospective homage to that achievement.

Irvine Welsh: In Conversation

Irvine Welsh: In Conversation

19 Sept 2026 - 20 Sept 2026

Irvine Welsh was born in the great city of Edinburgh and matured in the housing schemes of Leith, West Pilton and Muirhouse. Neither school nor conventional employment appealed, but he was inspired to write after experiencing the explosions of punk and rave first hand. Trainspotting, Welsh's debut novel, was rejected from the Man Booker Prize shortlist, allegedly for offending the judges. It went on to sell over a million copies in the UK alone and was adapted into an iconic film by Danny Boyle, starring Ewan McGregor, Robert Carlyle and Kelly Macdonald. Porno was adapted into T2: Trainspotting, a sequel that reunited the original cast and crew. Renton, Begbie, Sick Boy and Spud, the much-loved antiheroes of Trainspotting, inhabit a fictional universe based on Welsh's experience of an inner-city Scotland blighted by Thatcherism and drug abuse. This universe has often been revisited in novels including Skagboys, The Blade Artist and A Decent Ride. It has been augmented by iconic characters from subsequent books, like Juice Terry, Post Alec, Jonty McKay and, trying to keep them (and themselves) in order, wayward cops Bruce Roberson and Ray Lennox, both of whom were played to devastating effect by James McAvoy in the film Filth, and on TV by Dougray Scott in Crime. 'General Admission + Book' tickets include a copy of Irvine Welsh's new book, Can Nothing Save Us, which will be available collect at the event.

Spencer Jones: Dogs Wip

Spencer Jones: Dogs Wip

12 Jul 2026 - 12 Jul 2026

Spencer Jones (me) is making a new live comedy show and this is a work in progress of that show. It’s called dogs because there’s dogs in it and it’s about dogs. But please don’t be put off if you don’t like dogs, it’ll still be funny. In fact, there’s a good chance that by the time I come to Brighton, it’ll only be 30% dogs. There will be weird characters, strange props, fur, and I would imagine some daft music. Lots of bits and pieces for us to work out if they’re funny or not (they will be) x
Reuben Solo - Someone In This Crowd Will Betray Me
I've got a terrible feeling about this show. Like, somehow the whole thing is doomed. I've got this recurring dream where I'm on stage, thousands of miles from home and the crowd has turned on me. There are thousands of them and they are all booing me and Sofia Vergara (Modern Family) is there, and so is Simon Cowell and he's slamming his fist into a red buzzer and the sound splits the air like a gunshot and the ceiling rips open and confetti rains down like debris but the booing only gets louder and louder and louder and louder and then I wake up. And ! realise that all of that actually happened to me.
Steve Knightley

Steve Knightley

9 Jul 2026 - 6 Dec 2026

As a long-serving troubadour of the folk and acoustic music scene, master songwriter and storyteller Steve Knightley has spent much of his life on the road, collecting songs, stories, anecdotes and observations with the odd disaster along the way. Best known for his work with the award-winning acoustic roots group Show of Hands, Steve has performed in venues from the Albert Hole in Bristol to the Albert Hall in London. His impressive back catalogue of songs are modern classics, still filling the folk clubs and festival fields, and forever influencing the next generation of folk artists. Steve says, 'A life on the road certainly has its challenges, but I can't say I'd do it differently if I had to start all over again. The format of 'Songs and Stories', and now 'Roadworks' allows me to share the stories I've collected over the years, along with plenty of observations along the way. It's just me, a radio mic and a couple of guitars which is daunting and liberating in equal measures, and it's enabled me to build elements into my shows which I've never been able to before.'

Will Wilde

7 Aug 2026 - 6 Dec 2026

Will Wildes intense harmonica style steals the spotlight from the traditional blues rock guitar, with a sound that owes as much to Gary Moore as it does to Sonny Boy Williamson. "Im always looking to make new sounds with the harmonica, pushing its boundaries, trying to change peoples perception of it. In fact Will has gone one step further and created his own signature "Wilde Tuned" harmonicas so he can play licks that werent possible before. They enable me to hold my own with any blues rock guitarist.

Mark Thomas: 40 in Stand Up Years

Mark Thomas: 40 in Stand Up Years

11 Jul 2026 - 13 Dec 2026

What?! Mark Thomas has been ‘standing up’ for 40 years? Impossible!! But how old does that make you…? Alas it is true; one of our oldest surviving alternative comics celebrates 40 years at the mic as he takes his brand-new show on the road this autumn. So, here’s what he has done so far in numbers; performed comedy for 40 years, won 8 awards for performing, 4 for human rights work and 1 he invented for himself, made 6 series of the Mark Thomas Comedy Product (Channel 4), written 6 books and 5 play scripts, made 5 series of the Manifesto for Radio 4, made 3 Dispatches for Channel 4, sued the police (and won) 3 times, curated and authored 2 art exhibitions with artist Tracey Moberly and had 1 Guinness World Record for holding 20 protests in 24 hours. If that’s not enough, he’s also walked 724km around the length of the Israel Wall in the West Bank, been credited with changing the law on tax avoidance, started a comedy club in Palestine with Dr Sam Beale and campaigned successfully for things like trade union recognition for cinema workers and getting multinationals to change their practices. You’re right, there’s more, but your attention is running out and we’re running out of space. So, let’s just say he’s generally mucked about trying to have fun and upset the right people…which he is really, really good at. This is a taster menu of political and personal mayhem, jokes, rants and a state of the nation broadcast as he tries to turn ‘what the hell is going on’ into a cogent evening of stand-up.

Von Hertzen Brothers (Acoustic Enough)
Celebrating 25 years of music with unique reimagined performances from across the band’s celebrated catalogue Acclaimed Finnish progressive rock band Von Hertzen Brothers have announced a special run of UK theatre dates. Taking place in intimate seated venues across the country, the shows will celebrate the band’s 25th anniversary with a unique concert experience unlike anything they have presented in the UK before. The band wryly describe these performances as acoustic ‘enough’ - while the songs may be reimagined beyond their usual electric rock set-up, these shows are anything but stripped back. Far from a simple “unplugged” set, they interpret the band’s music in a way that feels intimate, expansive and more immersive than ever before. The three brothers, Mikko, Kie and Jonne von Hertzen are joined on stage by their bandmate, multi-instrumentalist Markus Pajakkala whose impressive array of instruments goes far beyond a traditional acoustic set-up. The brothers themselves also show off their insane musical skills, each playing multiple instruments and taking turns on drums, keyboards, guitars, vocals, percussion and whatever else happens to be at hand. Presented in seated theatre and cabaret-style venues, these evenings are designed to bring audiences closer to the songs and stories at the heart of the music. Spanning the band’s rich 25-year catalogue, audiences can expect fan favourites, deep cuts and rarely performed material presented in brand new arrangements created especially for these shows.
