The Orb virtually invented the electronic genre known as ambient house, resurrecting slower, more soulful rhythms and providing a soundtrack for early-morning ravers once the clubs closed their doors. Founded in 1988 by Alex Paterson and The KLF member Jimmy Cauty, membership of The Orb has been fluid over the years, with Paterson remaining the only constant throughout. The Orb released their fifteenth studio album, ‘No Sounds Are Out of Bounds’, in 2018 via Cooking Vinyl. These fifteen albums plus EPs, singles, compilations and live recordings have influenced countless other musicians along the way.

Nik Kershaw exploded onto the UK pop scene in 1984. A string of global hit singles including Wouldn’t it Be Good, The Riddle and I Won’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me saw him languish for 62 weeks on the UK Singles Chart, making him the UK’s biggest-selling solo artist that year. In 1985, he performed at Live Aid. After stepping out of the limelight to concentrate on writing and producing, Nik wrote Chesney Hawkes’s The One and Only and collaborated with Elton John, Lulu, Petula Clark, The Hollies, Ronan Keating, Jason Donovan, Let Loose, Sia, Imogen Heap, Gary Barlow and Bonnie Tyler. In 1998, Nik returned to performing and has been crafting critically acclaimed albums ever since.

Originally formed in 1992 from the ashes of The La’s and Shack, Cast released four albums and had ten top 10 singles before disbanding in 2001. As one of the most traditional guitar bands to emerge during the Brit-pop era of the mid-'90s, Cast have carved out a sound that was heavily indebted to the British Invasion of the early '60s, yet it was infused with a mystical, pseudo-hippie lyrical sensibility, which lead singer John Power expanded upon in all of his interviews. What really made Cast into a success was Power's gift for simple, classic pop hooks, as demonstrated on the hit singles "Fine Time," "Alright," and "Walkaway." Cast became a very, very popular band within Britain following the success of Oasis and Blur. The Undertones emerged from Derry in 1976, the result of five friends learning how to play basic rock and roll. Practicing in their bedrooms eventually led to the band recording ‘Teenage Kicks’ in 1978 on Terri Hooley's Good Vibrations label in Belfast. The legendary DJ John Peel received a copy and liked it so much he played it twice in a row on his radio show.

Tom McGuire & The Brassholes are an eclectic, modern-soul-funk, 8 piece band from Glasgow, headed by keen skater, lumberjack-attired soul bearer, Tom McGuire. Born out of a mutual love of Joni Mitchell – and tour bus bonding over their other favourite artists – Hoop and Arad are joining forces to launch Songs Of, a rolling concert series celebrating the world’s finest songwriters, through the unique voices of those they’ve inspired.

Peter Hook first revisited the seminal Joy Division album Unknown Pleasures back in May 2010 for a commemorative charity concert and has followed it each year by performing subsequent albums from the repertoire of his bands, Joy Division and New Order. Born into a musical family (his father is the singer Chip Hawkes, formerly with the 1960s band The Tremeloes), Chesney Hawkes’ own career began at 19, when he appeared as the title character in the film “Buddy’s Song” alongside Roger Daltrey. He is best known for releasing the hit single The One And Only, from the film’s soundtrack. Written by another Jack Up The 80s favourite Nik Kershaw, who appeared at the event last year, the song was later featured in the opening credits of Doc Hollywood (1991), starring Michael J. Fox.

Dub Pistols are a London based dub music and big beat band, founded by ex-club promoter, Barry Ashworth, in 1996. The other members of the band were record producer and bassist Jason O'Bryan, Brooklyn producer and lyricist, T. K. Lawrence on vocals, Jap Slt guitarist John King, and turntablist DJ Stix / Steve Hunt. Guest songwriters and vocalists include Blade, James Dewes Sheffield (JMS), Rodney King and Terry Hall. In 2008 Dan Bowskill joined the band.

The Skids formed in 1977 in their home town of Dunfermline, Scotland by Richard Jobson, Stuart Adamson, Bill Simpson & Tom Kellichan. After releasing an independent single the band were played by John Peel, supported The Clash in concert and then were signed to Virgin Records in 1978. Their first singles were ‘Sweet Surburbia’, ‘The Saints are Coming’ and ‘Into the Valley’ - the latter reaching the UK Top Ten in early 1979. Their seminal debut album ‘Scared to Dance’; came out in 1979 and was quickly followed by two chart singles – ‘Masquerade’ and ‘Working for the Yankee Dollar’. Both singles were taken from the Bill Nelson (Be Bop Deluxe) produced second album ‘Days in Europa’. The album also featured new member Rusty Egan of Rich Kids & Visage fame after the departure of Tom Kellichan. The band released two more albums ‘The Absolute Game’ (1980) and ‘Joy’ (1981) before splitting. Stuart Adamson went on to have worldwide success with his new band Big Country. The Skids were at the heart of the punk scene in Scotland and took their music to London where they were signed by Virgin records. They made 4 albums and had numerous hit singles including Into the Valley, The Saints are Coming, Masquerade and Working for the Yankee Dollar.
