Hands On History: Great Fire of London (6yrs+)
‘Hands On History’ sessions are just that – chances to discover amazing history in a fun, interactive way! You’ll discover stories, investigate artefacts and find out amazing facts. You pay for the young people and join them for the ride! Step back in time to 1666 for this fun history and craft workshop exploring the story of the Great Fire of London. Discover Samuel Pepys, handle real objects from the time and discover how a ‘squirt’ worked This activity will happen twice, at 10.30am and 1pm. Tour for All: Bevois and the Bargate Walking Tour
Tours for all are designed so that families and adults of all ages can enjoy the tour. Your guide will cater the tour to the participants on the tour. We recommend that the tours are suitable for people aged 6 and over. Did you know Southampton had its own legendary founder, Sir Bevois of Hamtun?! In this brand new walking tour, join historian and guide Andy Skinner in exploring the fantastic story of Bevois that will also include a visit inside the incredible Bargate and other medieval vaults hidden in the city! Please meet 10 minutes before the tour start time in St Michael’s Square. The tour will last approximately 90 minutes. Regrettably it is unsuitable for wheelchair users and those with mobility concerns. Please bring a torch and suitable footwear. Art for All: Pet Portrait Prints (6yrs+)
This is the purrfect session to unleash your creativity and printmaking skills. Create colourful prints of your favourites animals and pets. Perfect for all age levels. All materials provided and all welcome. Guidance and instruction will be on hand throughout from our team If you are an adult wanting to join in, please just purchase a participating adult ticket below. If you are just there to support your child, that’s fine too – just book an accompanying adult ticket so we know how many people to expect. All under 16’s must be accompanied. You pay for the young people and join them for the ride! Adults do not have to pay for this activity. Take part in an awesome session exploring cool Victorian inventions. You’ll also make your own steam punk machine to take home with you. During our sessions aprons are provided for some activities, but who knows what activities you will be completing – so we always recommend dressing in clothes you don’t mind getting messy! Watercolours for Wellbeing

Back for a third season by popular demand, are these immensely satisfying art sessions with Nina Lazarski. Working with the beautiful backdrop of Tudor House, Nina will guide you to create beautiful watercolours and learn new techniques, taking inspiration from nature and our environment. Each session will have a different subject to explore. Sessions can be enjoyed individually or as part of a course, and there is a discount if booking all three sessions together. To book other sessions within the series please return to our main events listings to find them. Dates for autumn 2025 are as follows: Saturday 6 September Saturday 4 October Saturday 1 November Saturday 6 December please note this December session will be upstairs in our elegant Georgian Room. All materials are provided for these sessions, but we suggest bringing a folder (or something similar) to help transport your artwork home. Book onto two different FREE activities exploring the fascinating past, present and future of Southampton at work: FAMILY ACTIVITIES (10.30AM-12.30PM) Using tools such as artefacts, LEGO, and giant maps, families will enjoy learning about the city’s fascinating past, exploring the current job landscape, and creating ideas for the exciting opportunities that lie ahead. The event will feature interactive activities, engaging discussions, and an optional walking tour, making it a fun and educational experience for all ages. Don’t miss this opportunity to connect, learn, and envision the future of our wonderful city together! FAMILY WALKING TOUR – THE HISTORY OF JOBS IN SOUTHAMPTON (2-3.30PM) Join historian Andy Skinner for a brand new walking tour of Southampton’s Old Town exploring stories of work in Southampton through the ages. What was the grossest job in town, which Southampton engineer was thought to be ‘in league with the devil’ and how meet Southampton’s ‘Dick Whittington’ and the amazing jobs he helped to create. This tour will include a visit to some of the city’s incredible medieval vaults and participants will get the chance to imagine future possibilities (or something like that). Regrettably the walking tour is not suitable for people with mobility concerns.
