Thursday 12 June, 7.30pm 1 hour 40 minutes including interval Djanogly Recital Hall £24 Webern Langsamer satz Mendelssohn String Quartet No.1 in E flat major, Op.12 Ina Boyle String Quartet in E minor Dvořák String Quartet No.12 in F major, Op.96 ‘American’ Summer holidays inspired the composers in this concert. Webern’s ‘slow movement’ is the yearning of unrequited love as a 21-year old, while Mendelssohn at the same age captures the experience of visiting Scotland in 1829. The energetic, joyous melodies of Dvořák’s ‘American’ string quartet recall a happy summer spent with fellow Czechs in Iowa in 1893. Undiscovered quartet music led to the Piatti’s premiere recording of Irish composer Ina Boyle’s String Quartet of 1934.

She doesn't want to be a Goddess. She wants to be a Gobbess. Storytelling and poetry combine with aerial, circus and live music to tell a kaleidoscopic story of rage and becoming. This is one person’s search for lightness and depth amongst creativity and cat-calling. Naomi Wood is a multi-disciplinary performance artist specialising in aerial arts and spoken word. She brings the two together to tell her personal story on the nature of creativity and identity, of queerness and self-expression in the social media age. Her work covers consent, the weirdness of human habit and why sometimes we should just embrace being rubbish. Naomi has an MA in Creative and Critical writing from Sussex University and teaches creative writing workshops that empower people to perform their work onstage. As well as the show, Naomi will be providing a free creative writing workshop at TOM - full details for this are coming soon.

Together with her husband and musical partner, Sam Lakeman, she has succesfully steered an eclectic musical path defying the typical pigeonholes that hinder most artists in her genre. Celebrated for entwining traditional and contemporary elements she has earned both commercial success and astonishing critical acclaim. Whether she's singing her native traditional songs of lost love and emigration, or original compositions, you will be hard pressed to find a more emotive and captivating performer. Cara Dillon is at the very top of her field and one has the feeling she'll remain there for a very long time.
