During the session, artist Angela Macmillian will teach you how to coat paper, arrange objects to create striking compositions, and develop your prints using just sunlight and water. Whether you’re a complete beginner or looking to explore a new creative technique, this relaxed and enjoyable workshop will give you the skills to continue experimenting at home. All materials will be provided, but feel free to bring leaves, flowers, lace, or other textured objects to personalise your prints. Wear old clothes, as the process can get a little messy! Please bring a packed lunch for our break.  Nature is an endless source of inspiration to Inverness-based artist Angela Macmillan. From intricate ferns and carpets of fallen blossom leaves to fluffy bog cotton and delicate cow parsley flowers, beauty is all around. Beginner’s Punch Needle Embroidery: Hoop Art
Create your own wonderfully textured piece of wall art in this beginner's punch needle embroidery workshop. You will use a slim needle and DK yarn to create a piece that can be mounted in a 4” hoop. Not only will you learn a new skill, you’ll also enjoy the wellbeing elements of this incredibly therapeutic and rhythmic craft. No experience is necessary as tutor Caroline will take you through each step of the process, from creating your design to threading the needle, punching your stitches and finishing a piece you’ll be proud to display. There’ll be plenty of patterns to choose from, including festive designs, or if you’re feeling inspired, come with your own ideas! All materials will be provided. This half day workshop will start at 10:30am and end at 1:30pm, including a short break for lunch. Our café will be open or you are welcome to bring your own refreshments. Tutor Caroline Colam is an experienced teacher who has been teaching punch needle for several years. She is the author of the book ‘Punch Needle: Colouring with Yarn’ and is an exhibiting artist.She creates a wide range of fabulously bright and colourful punch needle pieces and is as passionate about the therapeutic process as the finished result. Caroline is also a freelance punch needle designer/maker for Hobbycraft, writing tutorials for the Ideas Hub on their website. Participants must be aged 12+. Brought to you by a highly experienced team of professionals, this Summer School is set to deliver a full programme of theatre arts training, including dance, drama, musical theatre and stage craft, culminating in a one-night performance yet to be confirmed . This year’s Summer School will be great fun and will help you engage with other students to deliver a first class and polished performance. Graeme James Souness CBE, is a Scottish former professional football player, manager and television pundit. A midfielder, Souness achieved his greatest period of success as an integral part of the Liverpool team of the late 1970s and early 1980s, during which he won five First Division titles and three European Cup trophies. He was captain for three seasons at Liverpool until his departure to Sampdoria in 1984. Souness later became player-manager for Rangers, leading the club to three Scottish titles and four league cups. His final game as a player came in the closing minutes of Rangers' final match of the 1989-90 season, which Was his only appearance of the season. Souness continued as Rangers coach for a further year before joining Liverpool as manager for the 1991-92 English First Division season. He went on to have spells at Galatasaray, Southampton, Torino, Benfica, Blackburn Rovers and Newcastle United. Inducted to the National Football Museum Hall Of Fame as a player in 2007, Souness was presented with his award by Dave Mackay. Mackay, one of the Hall Of Fame’s inaugural inductees, had been Souness’ boyhood hero, with both midfielders having attended the same school in Edinburgh. Inducted at the same time as Dennis Bergkamp, Nobby Stiles and Peter Beardsley, Souness claimed the Award would help his son believe his father had “ever played football”. An era of midfield opponents across Europe will struggle to forget Souness’ impact. John Barnes is a former professional footballer and manager, widely regarded as one of England's greatest players, known for his exceptional skills and contributions to Liverpool FC and the England national team. Barnes began his professional career with Watford FC in 1981, where he quickly made a name for himself. His exceptional dribbling skills and pace helped Watford secure promotion to the First Division. In 1987, he transferred to Liverpool FC for £900,000, where he became a key player during one of the club's most successful periods, winning two league titles and two FA Cups. During his time at Liverpool, Barnes scored 106 goals in 403 appearances and was known for his remarkable performances, including a stunning individual goal against Brazil in the 1984 World Cup. He earned 79 caps for the England national team, scoring 12 goals, and was the first black player to win the Football Writers' Association Player of the Year award in 1988. Barnes's accolades include: PFA Players' Player of the Year (1988) Football Writers' Association Footballer of the Year (1988, 1990) Induction into the English Football Hall of Fame in 2005 Voted as one of Liverpool's greatest players and England's best left-footed player. After retiring from professional football in 1999, Barnes transitioned into management, briefly coaching Celtic and managing the Jamaica national team. He has also worked as a football commentator and pundit for various networks. John Barnes is remembered not only for his footballing talent but also for his contributions to discussions on race and equality in sports. A singer and actor, a TV host and author, a BRIT Award winner and a film star - Toyah has worn many hats during a remarkable career spanning more than 50 years. The High Priestess of Punk burst onto the scene in 1976 as she forged dual careers as a musician and actress who featured at The National Theatre and London’s Royal Court. Her role in Quadrophenia made her a household name and soon after she gate-crashed the charts with It’s A Mystery, I Want To Be Free, and Thunder In The Mountains, as the album, Anthem, earned a gold disc, and BRIT Award Best Female as well as a BRIT Nomination for British Breakthrough Act. She married King Crimson guitarist Robert Fripp in 1986, and she starred opposite Sir Laurence Olivier and The Who’s Rodger Daltrey, among others. Acting, presenting, performing, headlining tours, and releasing 23 studio albums continued her unique story and now it’s time to reflect. 243 years of history in the Gem of the Northwest for the taking! You are invited to take a guided tour of the third oldest continually operating theatre in England. Originally built in 1782 during the reign of George III and rebuilt in 1908 to its current Edwardian style, you will hear about its long and lively history and how it has developed into what you see today. A backstage and front of house tour is yours for the taking during which you will see the ornate auditorium and the wonders of the hidden, functional world behind the curtain. Stand on the stage and see what it looks like to be a performer! Hear about the people who ran the Grand over the years, what they did to it and who has appeared here. If you are lucky, you may even see the ghost! Information: Saturday morning tours start at 10.30am from the foyer coffee bar, weekday daytime tours start at 2pm from the foyer coffee bar, and they last approximately one and a half hours. It is possible to book places on the day but tours will only take place if there are already some pre-booked places for that particular date. Due to the historic nature of our Grade 2 listed building certain parts of the theatre are only accessible via steps or stairs. Private group bookings are possible on other dates.
