Leeds Minster

Leeds Minster is a place of worship and service for the fast-moving modern city of Leeds. Leeds Minster is one of England’s best-loved Parish Churches and at our heart is a sacred choral tradition. Our origins date back to the greatest of the Victorian Vicars of Leeds, Dr Hook. It was during his 22-year incumbency that today’s Minster Church of St Peter at Leeds was built -- an astonishing building consecrated with great ceremony on Sep 2 1841 in the presence of a vast congregation including the celebrated Florence Nightingale. In 2012 we were granted Minster status. Today you can visit the Minster for worship -- whether for a few minutes of calm contemplation at a mid-week Choral Evensong or for the richness of a Sunday Choral Eucharist. We invite all to walk around and soak up the atmosphere of a building rich in history and heritage, light a votive candle, listen to the famous organ and round it all off with an enjoyable light lunch in our Refectory. If you do have not the time for an extended personal visit, but happen to pass the Minster on foot, by train, by bus, or in your car, do listen out for the Bells and do pray for us as we pray for you.

The Seven Sins of Tango

2 May 2026 - 26 Jun 2026

The Seven Sins of Tango by Candlelight is a brand-new production for 2026, featuring two champion tango dancers accompanied by a 10-piece ensemble from the world-renowned London Concertante. It is straight from Argentina, merging the smouldering music of Astor Piazzolla and his contemporaries with electrifying choreography and virtuosic musicianship, revealing tango in its most authentic yet sophisticated form. Tango showcases Argentinas most iconic dance, combining its sensual elegance with raw intensity and razor-sharp precision. This passionate language is pushed to its very limits, creating an exhilarating spectacle for eyes and ears alike. Accompanying the dancers on stage, the programme features the very best music from tangos golden era, including Piazzollas Suite del Diablo (Suite of the Devil), the haunting Oblivion, and the most famous hit of them all: Libertango. We also hear works by other composers from the bars or Buenos Aires at the time, such as Francisco de Caro, and Jacob Gade. For this exciting project, London Concertante joins forces once again with celebrated pianist and composer David Gordon, whose arrangements and original works breathe fresh life into tangos sensual and fiery soundworld.
