Akram Khan's Giselle

15 Jan 2026 - 18 Jan 2026

English National Ballet brings it to the grand stage of the London Coliseum in January 2026. As the curtain rises, dancers in shadow push against a forbidding wall. From that moment on, Akram Khan’s Giselle stuns with powerful images. This bold re-imagining of the great romantic classic Giselle isn’t just something you watch: it’s something you feel – with every heartbreaking step of the story. Giselle is part of a community of migrant workers, the Outcasts. A huge wall separates them from the factory Landlords, who have long exploited them. Her lover, Albrecht, joins Giselle’s group – but unknown to her, is in fact a Landlord himself. When the truth is revealed, Giselle’s tragic fate is sealed. She joins the Wilis – the ghosts of women who seek retribution on those who have wronged them. Can Giselle’s love save Albrecht from their vengeance? Akram Khan’s mesmerising choreography blends ballet with classical Indian dance kathak and contemporary movement, harnessing groups of dancers to dial up the intensity in every scene. Atmospheric lighting by Mark Henderson and a towering set by Academy Award-winner Tim Yip (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon) conjure up a condemned factory and the vengeful ghosts that appear in its shadows. The ominous score by Vincenzo Lamagna, adapted from the original by Adolphe Adam, is performed live by English National Ballet Philharmonic. Layered with a rumbling soundscape, it weaves and pulsates around the theatre. Whether seeing Giselle for the first time or making a return visit… this is an experience you won’t forget. OVERVIEW Join Captain Corcoran and his daughter Josephine as she faces a battle between duty and love on the high seas. While her father makes plans for her to tie the knot with the suitably ranked First Lord of the Admiralty, Josephine has romantic ideas of her own. Cinderella (La Cenerentola)

Cinderella (La Cenerentola)

27 Sept 2025 - 14 Oct 2025

Cinderella dreams of finding her Prince Charming. But when you’re always cleaning up after your needy stepsisters there’s no time to make your dreams come true. Longing for something real: a genuine connection untouched by status or appearances, and a life where she can be seen – and loved – for who she really is, Cinderella’s imagination keeps her going. Until one special encounter with Prince Don Ramiro changes everything. He’s instantly charmed by her warmth and courage – will Cinderella find her happily ever after, after all. STAGING & SCORE It’s the legendary tale of Cinderella, with a few magical twists. Instead of one Fairy Godmother, Cinderella and Don Ramiro are guided by a chorus of ancestral spirits, an otherworldly team who steer the pair towards love with a sprinkling of fairy dust. Expect surprises: there are pumpkins, mice and a glass slipper, although not where you might think. And of course, no Cinderella would be complete without a beautiful gown fit for a Princess. One thing you can be certain of is the timeless score…Rossini demonstrates his ability to write bubbling, effervescent music suitable for a comedy that matches The Barber of Seville. With arias that reach for the heights and ensembles that fizz, Cinderella (La Cenerentola) shows him at the peak of his powers. SINGERS & CREATIVES Our heroine, Angelina is played by mezzo-soprano Deepa Johnny, and her Prince Charming, Don Ramiro is played by tenor Aaron Godfrey-Mayes both making their ENO debut. Charles Rice will play the role of Dandini, Don Ramiro’s valet and Simon Bailey plays Don Magnifico, Angelina’s stepfather, supported by former Harewood Artist David Ireland as Alidoro. Albert Herring

Albert Herring

13 Oct 2025 - 16 Oct 2025

In this ENO first, join us for May Day celebrations in a fresh and witty new take on Britten’s much-loved coming-of-age comedy. Following the success of ENO’s previous semi-staged productions – Gloriana, Duke Bluebeard’s Castle, and Suor Angelica – Albert Herring will be directed and designed by multi-award winning Antony McDonald and conducted by Daniel Cohen, making his ENO debut on the podium. OVERVIEW Loxford, 1943. A typical small market town, where nothing escapes the eye of the redoubtable Lady Billows and her housekeeper Florence Pike. When there are no virtuous girls left in the village, the May Queen organising committee decide to break with tradition and crown the shy and innocent greengrocer’s boy Albert Herring as the May King. But heavy is the head that wears the May King crown, and Albert’s friend Sid intervenes with some mischievous assistance throughout the day as Albert accepts his fate and the cash prize. Join us as Albert’s newfound village status leads to an alcohol-fuelled night of debauchery and self-discovery. Showing in London and Salford, this funny, quirky and off-centre opera is the perfect commentary on small town eccentricities and will be sure to set curtains twitching and tongues wagging, up and down the country. STAGING & SCORE Composed in 1947, Britten demonstrates his versatility by creating a good-natured comedy. From its gentle ribbing of English Victorian music to its sly quote from Wagner, his light-hearted touch lets the humour shine through the music. The score also requires the same thirteen instruments that he used in his previous opera The Rape of Lucretia.
