The List

London Palladium

The Royal Court and the Donmar may be edgier, the Theatre Royal Drury Lane may be more hallowed, but nowhere spells showbiz like the London Palladium. Under Val Parnell's management in the mid-20th century, it was the go-to venue for major Hollywood and Broadway stars, and it was here, in October 1963, that the Beatles' appearance on ITV's Sunday Night at the London Palladium made front page news the next day and effectively ignited Beatlemania. More recently it hosted the blockbusting revival of The Sound of Music, starring Connie Fisher. The nearest underground station is Oxford Circus and there is an NCP car park at Brewer Street.

Kenny Thomas

Kenny Thomas

17 May 2025 - 25 Jul 2025

Kenny Thomas was one of the most popular UK soul dance vocalists of the early 1990s. His biggest UK hit came in 1991 with ‘Thinking About Your Love’ (number 4), while his debut album sold more than 600, 000 copies in the UK alone. Other hit singles spawned by that debut included ‘Outstanding’, ‘The Best Of You’ and ‘Tender Love’, and also resulted in a Brit Award nomination for Best British Male Vocalist and Best British Newcomer. The warm, relaxed dance grooves of that debut were replicated on a second album that continued Thomas’ massive commercial success. Guest musicians this time round included the Young Disciples, Nu Colours and the Reggae Philharmonic Orchestra. This time some of the bonhomie of the original set was more restrained, with a slightly more mature lyrical vision reflecting more real-life experiences. Over the years Kenny has retained an extremely loyal following on the Soul/Funk circuit and is often one of the first names ‘considered’ for ‘Soul All dayers’ etc. However, now in 2021 Kenny has recruited a new band and is about to go out live to celebrate the 30th anniversary of his debut album ‘Voices’, that featured the hits Thinking about your love, Outstanding, Tender Love & Best of you In addition to the album Kenny has just released in conjunction with Dr Packer a new version of the seminal Fatback Band classic ‘I found lovin’ – this song has been a staple of Kenny’s live sets for some time and has already landed in several Soul based singles charts across the UK

Julian is sure that the men in the audience will be so eager to join his posse they won’t be able to keep their hands off his Rawhide. The lucky few will play with him on stage in the Hang ‘em Low saloon, where Wild Bill Hickok used to meet his special friend, Raving Clarence la Fruit. But life in the Old West was tough. Not all of Julian’s wild bunch will be around to witness the final shoot-out that will result in Julian giving himself selflessly at high noon to the last man standing. He will be playing his old favourites Year Of The Cat, Time Passages, On the Border, Nostradamus and Roads To Moscow along with selections from his deep catalogue. The Scottish-born singer-songwriter has released nearly 20 introspective and lyrically powerful records featuring brilliant backing musicians (Jimmy Page, Phil Collins, Richard Thompson, Peter White, etc.). His biggest platinum successes, Year Of The Cat and Time Passages, were released in 1976 & 1978 respectively. He’s had several top 20 singles, including the above-mentioned titles, as well as On the Border and Song On The Radio. In Al’s own Words: “I’m just a folk singer that is interested in history and wine that got lucky with some hit records! It’s as simple as that really. I was always a huge music fan and originally, I had wanted to be Brian Jones and then Bob Dylan, but those two jobs were already taken. And in many ways, I’m still pretty much the same troubadour that I was back in 1965. I still get a kick out of hearing the Zombies, Hendrix or They Might be Giants on the radio.”
